I have to remember to specify. I meant Elias Lindholm.

Rangers will gauge interest on Strome.
Lindholm is the guy I want. Such a well-rounded player, both ends of the ice, special teams and under contract for 3 more years at a bargain. By that 3rd year, you have a 1 - 2 punch of Zibanejad/Lindholm, with Chytil having hopefully developed into a core piece and we'd be set down the middle. Kakko/Lafreniere should be in their primes. Lundkvist/Miller and maybe even Robertson hopefully all with the team and producing. I think if you make the move for Lindholm, 2023-24 is when we could be a powerhouse.

This is what I love to hear.

what about Buchnevich? Feelings toward him?

Hesitation to trade without a clear backup plan in place.

But that has its limits.

It's not a matter of not liking or valuing him. It's actually somewhat the opposite. He has value, and is an asset that potential helps them by staying or by being moved for another player to solve a different need.

It goes without saying that Kakko and Kravtsov would go a long way to helping ease their concerns.

Sorry also meant to ask what are their thoughts on Georgiev? Could Hank stay his last year and they trade GG? Or are they considering buying Hank out? Or Staal?

those are my last questions... enjoy the rest of the lunch!!

Was told he is a guy who would've fit right in with the last Rangers era, but would potentially do well in a system with elite young talent.

Actually... if one of the targets is Grieg, they likely don't need to move off 22. Is there someone that is a bit out of ranger at 22 they'd consider moving up for?

It would seem to reason that a Buch trade for someone like Lindholm who would fill another need would be open for discussion but not so much Buch for draft picks.

What are you talking about? How much is Trouba making? What was Shattenkirk making? What's Shattenkirk costing next year for nothing? And the year after that? And the year after that? We should've bought out Staal, not Shattenkirk. Maybe we should've traded Kreider. There are a lot of moving parts beyond just not buying out Shattenkirk.

No fantasy world - just a world where we move a guy and replace him with a more expensive guy and are STILL PAYING THE OLD GUY.

What fantasy cap world are YOU living in?

With the Shattenkirk buyout, we were barely under the cap. Buying out Staal wasn't an option because it didn't save us nearly enough cap space. Neither did buying out Smith.

In your scenario, we would have this:

-8 mil for Trouba
+7.143 mil for Hayes (the contract he signed in Philly)
+3 mil for Pionk (the contract he signed in Winnipeg)
-1.075 mil (max) for whomever Hayes replaces
+5.1 mil for not buying out Shattenkirk
-2.8 for buying out Staal

The net effect, at best, would be adding 3.693 mil. There's no way that would have worked. There's no way we could have done everything we did, and then buyout Staal instead of Shattenkirk. Maybe Hayes and Pionk could have been signed for less, but not that much less.

It's very easy to state that the Rangers should have done this or done that, but when you actually do the math, you see that there was no way to actually do that.

There's also the fact that if we had kept Pionk and Shattenkirk, we'd have a right side of ADA, Pionk, Fox and Shattenkirk. Would Shattenkirk have gotten PP time over ADA and Fox? His lost his job to Pionk the year before. Is it worth having a 7th dman with a 6.65 mil cap hit?

Shattenkirk was, and still is, a one-dimensional player, and that's a dimension we already have plenty of. Buying him out was no great loss. He should have never been signed in the first place.

This will be my last reply for a while as well. We're done with lunch, but doing other activities.

Georgiev will be a guy who the team considers moving. They view his value as being worth a bottom six player, or a higher second round pick. There are teams expected to have interest in him and those conversations will likely continue to take place.

His fate exists seperately from Lundqvist. I would say the odds of Lundqvist staying are not favorable at this point. Lundqvist is a potential buy-out candidate (obviously they would love he retired and they could celebrate his career in a number of interesting ways).

Staal I think is here for next year. I think they ride out that storm.

Thank you for your service, sir.

I’d be more inclined to go towards Dunn than Brodin

Of course. Dunn has his best hockey in front of him.

But it comes down to cost. Brodin won't have his shortage of suitors either, but he can be had for much cheaper asset wise. I don't know how much more expensive his next contract will be vs Dunn's, though the term is the worry there rather than dollars (Can't see him getting more than 6-6.5)

Buchnevich is low-key a pretty good player. I'm willing to move him *when* a younger option emerges but I'm also not one to assume things and make the move first.

Anybody can bust. Anybody can tear their knee up tomorrow. You have too many guys when you actively have too many guys on the current roster.

I’d be more than happy getting a top 40 pick in return for AG.

Glad to hear they’re interested in Biondi

He is a Ranger pick if I’ve ever seen one

I’m not super thrilled about Dunn for the 22nd+. Dunn scores points and needs power play time, of which he won’t get here

I will freely admit I don’t have a firm grasp on what either would require to acquire honestly. Are we talking:

Andersson + 22nd for Dunn

Or

Andersson for Brodin

What is the difference in cost

Calls from LA and Ottawa, but no serious or prolonged conversations. Buffalo a dark horse to maybe come out with a strong offer.

I'll slide the the odds of them trading the pick down to the lower end of my original statement - 10 percent.

Rangers brass absolutely loves Lafreniere.

Don't know the odds, but he is expected to be a part of conversations leading up to and during the draft.
As they should. And thanks for everything, have a good rest of your weekend

Thanks for informing us of your conversions with the people in the know. It's much appreciated.

I wouldn't touch Lapierre with his neck/head issues. Outside of a few of players, to me, no one on the roster is untouchable. (Kakko, no. 1 overall pick, Shesterkin; don't want to give up on Kravtsov). Some are more untouchable than others. Would rather not give up Buchnevich, but the writing is on the wall.

It appears the team believes it is near the end of the "accumulation of assets" stage, moving roster player for roster player, but never a bad thing to keep stocking the shelves. They aren't that far away, but still need a couple more pieces.

Besides Trouba, who are some other defenseman whose value is derived MAINLY from making life easier for the defensemen that he doesn't share ice time with?

Shattenkirk was abysmal last night. He can't defend at all. I cannot for the life of me understand the obsession some have with this guy. They don't need him when they have DeAngelo, Fox and Lundkvist coming. The same people rip DeAngelo and his defensive game but wish the NYR kept Shattenkirk. LOL.
You’re absolutely right. He’s getting protected minutes, when possible.
