You're downgrading from Strome to Danault. I don' get the love with Danault. He's like a shorter Kevin Hayes. C is tough because, in an ideal world, you'd love to have a 2C like Barkov or something if you're going to move pieces and upgrade. I still think if TB decides to shed a salary, I'd call on Gourde. I know Johnson and Killorn are 1 and 2, in no particular order, to be moved this offseason, but both these guys may list teams on their NTC that don't have a ton of cap flexibility. Johnson at $6M wouldn't interest me if I were any of those teams.

I like Gourde a lot. He is one of those centers that I really think can lift someone like Kakko, without being a 8-10m player.

Yeah a play driver, a guy who will drive the net, dish off and create chaos, to let Kakko pick corners is what you need. I think with Martin coming in, you will see some formations coming into the zone, and more set plays off the rush and and off the cycle. At the end of the day, Martin is the guy that brought Hall of Famer Marian Hossa along. They had Alfredson and Havlat as well. Those Sens teams racked it up, and had primary goal scorers coming from the right wing.

If KK is anything close to the two-way monster that put up 100 points Hossa was, and the straight up winner that Hossa was, that's what you hope Kappo can be.

I have always liked Gourde. But have also been concerned with where is ceiling is VS what Tampa’s ask would be. He has looked really good in these playoffs. Zipping around the ice. A very nice middle 6 option and like you said plays with an edge.

But ultimately I think Tampa retools it a bit by moving out/not re-signing Paquette, Killorn, Johnson before they move Gourde or Cirelli, although they would get better returns for the latter. And one thing these playoffs have kinda shown is they can somewhat live without Stamkos. But I doubt they can seamlessly move his contract out.

They need Johnson's permission to move him. I can't see teams being overly interested in an undersized, declining player @5 mill for the next few seasons.

Pretty sure they need Gourde's permission to move him too. Killorn has a 16 team no trade list so perhaps they can get a hit there but they have 3 key RFA's they need to sign (Cernak, Cirelli, Sergachev.)

They're not going to be able to keep all 3 even if they move one of their mid-tier players out. Cernak is almost a necessity for them due to their lack of RH shooting D (they don't have a single one signed for next year at the moment.)

You keep shoehorning the notion that Shattenkirk's buyout has put this team in dire straits with the cap and it's just not true. I haven't come across a single media source that has expressed serious doubt that the Rangers will be able to keep the team together, or that they will be forced to part with valuable assets for pennies on the dollar because they can't make things work. Is it somewhat tight? Yes, but every team needs to navigate cap every season and the Rangers have plenty of options to make it work. This is not a Tampa situation where they have no room to breathe and practically the entire team has NMCs. DeAngelo is not going to be a cap casualty. More likely than not, Lundqvist will not be on the team next year. Either he 1) retires and frees up $8.5M 2) is bought out and frees up $3M or 3) is traded at 50% retention and saves $4.25M. If by some chance Lundqvist returns next year as the back-up to Shesterkin, then Staal is going to be bought out. Saves $2.13M and corresponding moves can be made to free up more, like trading Strome.

Even if, for some bizarre reason, none of the above happens and they decide to keep Strome over ADA, DeAngelo built up a tremendous amount of value with the season he had and the Rangers will absolutely cash in via trade. What gave DeAngelo the opportunity to break out? Buying out Shattenkirk and acquiring Trouba.

The Rangers have 15 Roster players and $14.3M in cap space. What are you signing Strome for? What are you signing ADA for? How about Fast? Lemieux? This are all UFA's or RFA's with arbitration rights. You need ~21 roster players. 14.3M is not going to get it done. Add our 1st OA to this equation and potential bonuses that could total 3M+

If Lundqvist retires (he won't) then, yeah, we're in better shape. If he's bought out, it frees up 3M, but then you have to sign Georgiev (let's say 2x1.5M) and you've only gained 1.5M in space. Nobody is trading for Lundqvist. Staal isn't getting bought out - that's been clear, now, for years.

Speculation about what ADA would and wouldn't have done with or without Shattenkirk is best left at that. Speculation. You have no idea how he would've performed under the other circumstance and neither do I.

I'll agree to disagree with you.

Feels like Rangers fans have been way more down on Andersson than everyone else since they drafted him

You always hurt the people that cares about you the most. He hurt us. Not even a letter to help us through the difficult nights.

Maybe we are better off sticking with Strome at 2C?

Tampa's doomsday scenario is moving Palat and Cernak. Both guys who will let them restock, and they will be okay. I wouldn't be too focused on them as a team. They are winning with their left side and a bunch of veteran journeymen.... Hedman, McDonagh, Sergachev cover every situational need you can imagine. Cernak is a nice to have, but his minutes are not irreplaceable as has been proven to great effectiveness. Palat is a player who is regarded more highly in hockey circles than in fan circles. Just a reliable known quantity of a top 9 winger. Plug him with any duo and he will fit right in, so that will get them value.

TB has a ton of kids to push on the wings, and have Cernak's replacement in Foote. Between Stephens and Joseph... you've got to wingers that can play... but Bouret is the guy to watch imo.

They won't be hurting.

I have said it on here and to others, I would totally be down for that. He doesn't have the track record to get a long-term deal. He had one year, and it was with Panarin. I bet the NYR can give him a 2-3 year deal at $5M per.

I would re-sign Strome to a 3 year deal, and front load two big signing bonuses. He's tradeable by July 2021 for a nice return if Chytil takes a step or another unforeseen center lays a claim. If not, you get another year.

Brassard 2.0, trade him for a pick and young NHLer in need of a change.

Three years at $5.1M is fair to me. Like I said, front load as much as you can. Strome can cash out on another 5 to 7 year deal after this one.

Strome is a decent player but on a winning team?
He's a #3C.

Hell.. At this point, Just find me a solid 2 way #4C already and let the rest of the pieces fall where they may.

I lost track of how long I've been screaming for a legit #4C..

Brooksie's latest was a good article, very well written for a summer post. Conjecture driven article that's kept within the confines of plausible deniability. Safe yet provocative. That's Brooksie kindling some chatter with his narration skills.

Real good wordsmithing there Brooksie. Got the eyes on, that's what counts.

this went off the rails in your first sentence. It’s not even close. Danault is by far the better overall player in every facet.

I liked Edmundson as a target.

Obviously there are some great trade targets out there but I’m not convinced the org is committed to making a move for someone like Brodin, Dunn, Ekholm, Klefbom, etc.

The biggest excess of NHL-ready defensive-minded LHD is Columbus.

Werenski
Gavrikov
Murray
Nutivaara
Carlsson

The bottom 2 seem like great steady inexpensive targets so we can see what’s there in Miller, Robertson, and Jones.
