I think that Gorton would only do so if he had absolutely no other choice or was in an unmanageable situation. Aside from that, as we all beleive that the team intends to compete for the playoffs next year, I do not see Gorton trading a young, 55 point wing for a player who may only help them in 5 years. And will certainly not replenish the production for this year.

This is my thinking too. I don't really know how you reconcile the obvious push to compete in the immediate future with trading away your only proven RW in a significant role. Will Gorton disassemble the top line to draft a player that contributes so far down the line? It seems like people are viewing the players as a list of assets as they go shopping. But they are puzzle pieces and removing the wrong one might mean none of the rest fit together at all.

I feel like GMs don't typically care about who's going to follow them, unless they're in a position like Sather was where he can step away whenever he feels like and was grooming someone to take his place for years

Danault is a better fit for what this team needs than Strome, entirely because of his defensive ability.

In fairness What he brings could be a really good fit to balance out what we have. But again that next contract could make it a moot point. He could easily put up a Stepan in his prime type season playing with Panarin and giving you selke two way hockey

Hes an excellent defensive center with some offense, bite, can win a FO and PK.

He checks literally every box for us behind Zibanejad and perhaps maybe even eventually Chytil.

I understand his POV.

But if Buchnevich is what is in the way between you and landing Lundell or a sliding Rossi, It's an easy call for me. Those are guys who can step in and play right away and maybe you take a bit of a hit next year, but 2,3,4,5 years down the line, you're going to love that you pounced on that opportunity when you did.

At first I was against trading Buch because I think he's going to have a big year but when you mention it that way...2,3,4,5 years down the road I can't see him being enough of a factor and we'd be paying him top 6 money. If we can package him to get into the top 10 for one of them that's a no brainer. Heck I'd even try him and Georgie for a top 10 and then keep the 1st for a role player.

Like Hampus Lindholm, his contract situation is a huge deterrent. Again right player type, just the wrong fit with the individual’s contract and future.

instead of trading for a center why not develop one. maybe Morgan Barron steps in and steals a spot. remember when Stepan made the team out of camp. I dont see why Barron or a young player can't do the same like a Kravstov remember he was center in the Workd Juniors Championships on a line with Kim Kostin from the Blues

For me, the short term of the contracts for some of the LD out there is a positive thing.

Danault is definitely the player out of Montreal I’d be most interested in.

I'd rather have Domi considering his dad was here. he has more grit is younger and more upside in my opinion. Danault would cost more than he's worth in my opinion.
