Rangers social media is touting they have worked trades in the past with draft capital, makes me think they are setting up to do this again.

Maybe more in the mold of an Adam Fox move since we don't have tons of space to add another player that needs a raise.

Would still keep an eye on teams without their first rounder or those that are transitioning into a re-tool/rebuild

I agree good chance they move that extra 1st like last year .... it’s easier when they can say here’s Lafraniere and like Kakko last year

Yeah, and we still haven’t had a Louie in ages. Are kids not named Louie in NA anymore?
No, they still are.

Probably the case but I personally wouldn't trade it away this year. They could probably benefit from a trade up(to maybe get Lundell), or even trading down and adding an extra pick(and take Khusnutdinov??? please NYR be high on him).

I like Buchnevich and am not "eager" to move on. Don't get that impression from much of anyone here. However, wing is a position of strength for this team. Kravtsov is knocking on the door on the right side. Buchnevich is still an RFA when his contract expires after next year which makes him a good trading chip, and our insiders here have confirmed there is interest across the league. The Rangers have acquired many valuable assets and at some point you need to explore dealing some of them to address areas of weakness, i.e. LD and C.

The notion that this stems from anti-Russian bias is ridiculous. Are we never supposed to discuss trading players who have value if they happen to come from Russia?

I don't think it's an anti-Russian bias so much as an attitude about what a Russian forward is supposed to be.

Buchnevich now plays a solid two-way physical game, he doesn't play with a ton of flair, nor does he often try to dangle players or pull particularly flashy moves.

Your point about Kravtsov 'knocking on the door' I just don't see it. He was reportedly 'okay' in his return to Hartford which doesn't exactly knock my socks off. Hopefully I am wrong, however.

But the situation as I see it is that we still don't know how long it will take for Kakko to become a top 6 player, and if Kravtsov ever will be. I think that, like Strome, is a decision for next offseason.

Last time they had a Louie, he was traded for some dude named like, Mark Messier, wasn't he? Pretty insignificant trade.

I like this team as it is, but I think we could have more characters. Like one guy named Louie, one guy with a ‘stache, someone from Germany, someone that served, someone that did time.

Hello all. We are in exciting times. It’s been a while since I have posted. What can I say? Life gets in the way sometimes but I have been lurking on occasion. I should be posting more soon hopefully. First off AF  amazing luck can’t wait to see him in red white and blue. Secondly to those who think we are getting a 2nd line center in trade or a big d-man before the draft you are kidding yourselves. Management is going to use this year as a show me year. Huge year for Chytil who many believe to be the future 2nd line center everyone is pining for. The kid is 20 for god sakes. And he’s gotten better with time. Is he great at everything?? Absolutely not however let’s take it easily and see re-evaluate him when he can legally drink a beer. I was hard on Fil, I wanted them to draft kostin, but he has made me eat crow on the pick. The size is there, the talent is there, and his decision making and execution will get better as time goes on and he keeps playing. He needs to work on face offs as well. I believe the shiny new toy syndrome from Kakko and now AF make people see Chytil in a new light but they shouldn’t, he’s still an excellent young asset teams would love to have. The 2nd line center for this team next year is Ryan Strome, simple as that. They will give him a 1 yr QO and hope by mid or end of the season Chytil can move up and Strome is gone. They are not going to move out assets they have accumulated with expansion looming. They know Strome has chemistry with Panarin, has played well upon coming here, and is a warm body until Fil is ready. I do also believe Buch”s days are numbered. But if he is moved early expect it to be in a pretty significant package for a player that is exempt from EXP. Next point is Fast. He loves NY. Expect him back on a 3 year deal that doesn’t break the bank. He will have offers with more money and term on the table but I would bet he goes no where. So what do we have???

this year lines look like

kreider. Zibby. Kakko
panarin Strome fast/Buch/Gauthier
A-Laf. Chytil. Fast/Buch/Gauthier
Lemme. Howden Fast/Gauthier

Miller/Roberson/ maybe TDA /????Trouba
Lindgren Fox
Staal/Smith Tony
Smith / Staal

shesty
Gio/hank ( I think gio moved at draft for a pick or prospect)
Benny allure loves Adam husks. Thinks he will be a nhl starter in the mold of Ben bishop. They are both huge. I trust his judgement above all else and I bet next year once hank gone and gio traded you will see shesty/huska tandem

They following year is when your gona see the fireworks, when all the cap comes off and after expansion is over, I then think you see a trade for. LD that has term and age and will cost us a pretty penny.
Ultimately I think they want

Kreider Zibanejad Kakko
Panarin Chytil/center acquired Kravstov
Lafreniere Chytil/ center acquired Barron
Lemieux Howden/Lowry/ Girgensons /Bonino type player/ fast/ Gauthier

They key is waiting a year but any trade they make has to be for an exempt player or they are screwed. That’s why the only trade I see them making prior is for a guy like Lowry or Girgensons both are young and would add a lot to the 4th line in terms of dogged forecheck, pk ability, and enough talent to chip in a few timely goals. But ultimately they are only 4th liners and it wouldn’t cost much in terms of draft picks to pay Seattle not to take them. Lowry would cost more but I would love Girgensons on this team. I’ve been saying it for years he would be excellent between lemmy and fast or Gauthier. Talk about a player dying for a change of scenery and still only 24-25 years old. A few years ago Sabres fans were calling him untouchable and their future captain. He just never had the offense to be a mike peca type player they thought but he’s a damn good 4th liner. Get him out of buffalo and watch. I wish they would trade lias for him because he is the player lias was supposed to be. Lias was billed as more of an offensive threat though. I think Quinn knows his third and 4th lines have to play more this year and they have to know their roles. Cause In reality if they don’t Quinn can be canned. I’m not saying they should win the cup but if they miss playoffs he’s in trouble with the talent on this roster. This organization is also very very high on Barron, Miller, and Robertson. So help us def on the way but whether is a full year half year I don’t know. I’m leaning towards full year away. Anyways just some ramblings from inside my head, hope you guys are all feeling well and safe. I’ll be back

People seem eager to move on from Buchnevich just as he found his game. On pace for 55 points, 4th amongst forwards in hits, adding more physicality to his game.

He's pretty quintessentially a solid complementary offensive player, so I'm unsure why we're so concerned about trying to upgrade a guy who is already a really solid fit here. One wonders if his name was Bradley Smith if he'd be looked at differently.

It’s not that he’s bad, but considering that we’ll be drafting Mr. Lafreniere, cap space is going to eventually become a true luxury. We have to use it wisely. Considering that we signed Panarin and Trouba, and the fact that we are set on wing, we have to think of the future and deal from a position of strength. If I’m choosing between Buch and Kravtsov, I’m choosing Kravtsov as I think he has a higher ceiling and he will be on an ELC which will give us resources to address other positions of need... cough center cough. It’s great he’s finding his game but he is now a luxury and let’s face it, he was nowhere to be seen in the playoffs.

Would try to use Carolina 1st to get Vince Dunn. Would be willing to eat the Bozak contract if it would help the cause. Solves a lot of problems. Throw them another pick or prospect if necessary. STL needs the cap to re-sign Pietrangelo.

I could definitely see a deal around the following pieces: Strome, Canes 1st Round pick, Buch, Georgie, and (possibly, DeAngelo - and I only say DeAngelo from a cap perspective and the fact that we can replace his production with Nils on an ELC) - Given these assets, are there any potential deals anyone can see centered around this ?

I have fond memories of Little Caesar’s, prior to the rebrand. Anyone under 35 wouldn’t remember that they used to be a superior-product pizza chain and not the drive-through they are now.
You are either from Detroit or are thinking of another chain. I competed with Caesar’s for 22 years and they have been putting out slop the whole time.

From the Kravtsov thread:

lol at the people losing their minds over this on twitter.

It's pretty clear that this is Covid related. KHL starts at normal time and the NHL isn't projected to start until December at the earliest. Not to mention that if the KHL regular season ends when it normally does in late February, Vitali could play the entire season there and come to the NHL after and only miss like 15 games.

If I'm desperate (like last week I was re-doing my kitchen cabinets and couldn't use the kitchen) I'll order Jets pizza. It's edible and no worse than 90% of the mom and pop places that deliver in Nashville. The rest of the chains are garbage.

Yeah I'd like to see this option exercised with as many of our young players as possible.

Except in cases like Lafreniere where staying in juniors would mean ineligibility for the next NHL season.

Regarding DeAngelo, he’s a 24 year old, 50+ point defenseman who is really good at driving the offense, not just racking up secondary assist. He’s been trending up the last 2-3 years, and the next 3 years could be some of his most productive, especially alongside the forwards developing on this team.

He is also under restricted free agent rights for 3 more seasons.

What if the Rangers offer him 2yrs/5.25 M, while DeAngelo’s camp asks 3yrs/6 M…

If they settle at 2 yrs/5.75 M:
TDA makes our right side one of the best in the league, and he will probably increase his value as I can see his career starting to peak at 25 and 26 years old. Will also be on the #1PP. He’ll still be RFA at the end of the deal, which would be really enticing for some team to have him for a year to see if they want to offer him a big UFA contract. Why not trade him after the first or second season of that contract, when he can be worth just as much?

That also gives them time to wait on Nils another year. If Lundkvist comes over at the beginning of TDA’s second year of that contract and is ready for the NHL, then we move DeAngelo. If Nils needs to be the #1 Dman in HFD for half a season (like McDonaugh did), then keep TDA the second season, and move him at the deadline, while Nils is first callup and then up permanent at the deadline.

DeAngelo will be more proven at that point, so we might get more for him. Maybe something like the Brassard trade, where we trade him at 26 and get a 23 year old just before they break out. Whatever we really need on the team at that point probably, but certainly cost controlled.

This also lines up perfectly with ELC’s finishing for Fox and Kakko and some other contracts that need to be renewed.

If they settle at 3 yrs/5.75M, taking him right to UFA:
I still think they can move him for a good return at the start of, or the trade deadline of, the 2021-2022 season. I think he fits the team well and is certainly an asset.

Trade TDA for a higher return after Nils is here and ready. They will have the money when they cut down to 2 goalies and move on from Fast this offseason. Qualify Strome. Then move on from Strome, Buch and TDA the year after.

I feel like we're looking at a scenario like this if we decide to keep him this offseason.

My first job was Little Caesar's as a teenager.

That's probably close to 27 years ago. We....uhh....weren't the quality leader then either.

They should send Miller and Barron to Frolunda once Hank announces he's retiring and going back :sarcasm:

I assume the Rangers will stand pat this offseason but man, I want Cirelli on the team so badly. Most NHL teams seem too afraid to offersheet players anyway. Montreal doing it last year was the first time since when? The Flyers with Shea Weber? Makes me wish more teams had more guts and took advantage of this flat cap especially. Rangers can’t unless Hank retires and they can ship out Smith but still.
