If Greg Brown leaves thats honestly okay with me.

I want an experienced coach who actually has experience coaching a successful defense. Is anyone available to do that?

If Dallas had lost last night I would have looked at Rick Bownes, but I'd imagine he sticks around for next season now.

Oh, some more smatterings of fans stating that presently Trouba still isn't considered a 1D for the Rangers.

May I ask, who is? If you say DeAngelo or Fox, please log out.

You seem to be in the camp of retaining DeAngelo and giving a 5M+ contract to your third best RHD? What happens when that point production goes the way of Shayne Ghostisbehere?

I'll take a 20 point 3rd dman who can actually play defense any day of the week over giving DeAngelo a big contract to not play defense.

Elias Lindholm at 4.8M for the next 4 years while playing reliable 2C minutes would be a fantastic addition to the team and is worth paying for, but I honestly don't see the Flames being willing to let him go.

Our 3rd best RD is Trouba. He’s making 8M. The best defense is having the puck on your stick(which inversely means you don’t have to defend), which TDA does more often than not. His defensive issues are overblown. He’s not good defensively but his offensive value outweighs it. Why is he the next Gostisbehere? His production is higher than anything Gostisbehere has ever done and he’s trending up every season.

Log out? Can you tell me why Fox got more ES minutes than Trouba as the season went on? Especially after Skjei’s departure.

He can be considered a 1D by the Rangers, but he isn’t actually a 1D. Doesn’t matter how you twist it.

Mantha will be a $7m per year for 7-8 years man or something close to it. Even if you subtract Buch and Strome, the Rangers will have Panarin at $11.6 and Kreider at $7 on the books for the next 6-7 years. Kakko will need a big long-term deal in two years, AL in three. How's it going to work?

IMO, you go after the upgrade and younger player in Mantha who fits what this team needs and then cross that bridge when you come to it. So much can change in a 2-3 year span.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Pionk put up more than half of his production on the PP and Winnipeg was one of the worst defensive teams in the league.

If there is anyone who has the ghost decline in their future, it's him.

It’s clear that a lot of people here don’t have an informed opinion on Tony DeAngelo and are either biased against him for whatever reason, or are blind. It’s like his impact and value are ignored.

I’m not saying he’s Erik Karlsson but come on...

One thing I haven't seen mentioned about Monahan is that guy has a ton of miles on his body already. I believe is was last summer or the summer before he had to have four separate surgeries on various parts of his body. He's always been described as a gamer but his body has taken a beating at a young age. Buyer beware...

Mantha makes no sense for this team. Enough is enough with the big time winger contracts. We have Kakko, Laf, Kreider, Panarin, what other wingers do we need to pay big money to?

Judging by their usage down the stretch, It was Fox.

You log out.

Did you ever think for a second that the Rangers needed offense in the worst way during that Carolina series, and provided more minutes to a defenseman that, you know, creates more offense and generates great offensive-minded playmaking abilities?

I would love to see Trouba gone, only for you to see guys like Fox and DeAngelo play night-in, night-out, a shutdown role against top centers and wingers for an 82 game stretch.

I don't think DeAngelo's impact is being ignored. This is a roster building thread. DeAngelo had a fantastic season, I don't think its a reason to give him a big contract. He holds a lot of value currently, why not try to use him to upgrade for a center when you have guys like Trouba and Fox as the future of the defensive corps?

My preferred direction for this team would be to assume your offensive production is going to come from the team's potentially elite level forwards in players like Zib/Pan/Laff/Kakko/Chytil and to go out and get an affordable, replacement-level third pairing defensive defenseman until the kids (Miller/Lundkvist/Robertson/Jones) are NHL-ready.

LAF & Kakko are on ELCs. Buch would go

Not sure how Buch fits their timeline better than Mantha. Only 1 year younger, and he might be cheaper on the long term, but Mantha is the better player overall. Even adding in, I'm not sure Detroit would go for Buch as the primary piece. Would think someone in the 22-23 year old age range fits their build better.

If Detroit wanted to max his value out too, they could take a bad contract in the deal too. They have tons of space, are not competing yet, and are waiting for their prospects to bubble up through.

I would think they are just going to sign him to a long term deal and have him be part of their core forwards when they are looking to contend again.

No this happened during the regular season too.

Adam Fox was our TOI leader for the last 25 games of the season.

I'd like to see Trouba actually play well in a shutdown role, but guess what? He didn't.

No it makes plenty of sense if its for the right type of winger.

Mantha isn't that. Plus he cant stay on the ice.

no seriously it makes zero sense

Lafreniere Kreider Panarin Kakko In blood for a long long time.

Barron and Kravtsov very very important to the organization long term. Both need avail spots.

Lemieux and Gauthier also both very well liked by the organization and could be here a while.

and I haven’t even gotten to Buchnevich and Fast.

Spending any money whatsoever on another winger would be crazy.
