If he's this good, why is CGY giving him up anyway? The way he's being talked about in this thread, he's some elite, play driving beast that CGY shouldn't even consider trading.

The flames don’t want to give him up which is why you would need a package like DeAngelo / Georgiev / +

Good teams have to let some players go. Look at Chicago's dynasty. They cut loose Sharp, Versteeg, Byfuglien, Brower, Ladd after their first cup and still ended up winning two more.

They got some help out of the draft and did a good job finding solid contributors for cheap to replace their middle 6 guys.

Yeah his defensive game is... not good.

OTOH, he drives the absolute f*** out of shots for. Hes a little bit beyond the point where I would say he has room to improve in his own end (what you see is what you will get) but I do think hes a significant upgrade on Strome. He'd score a ton playing next to Panarin.
Yeah I think Monahan has his warts but he is definitely an intriguing option, especially considering his name has been out there so he seems like someone likely to be on the move. He's a shooter and he plays a good north/south game.

He would be dynamite with Panarin. Strome was great with Panarin too though so it's tough. Monahan might suck defensively but Strome does too so it's not like we're sacrificing too much there.

Ideally you'd move Strome this offseason or next and slide Chytil up so you're not paying a large cap hit to the player on the line with Panarin. However, a big concern I have with that is the ramifications further down the lineup, like Howden becoming 3C. I've been tough on Howden but I think he'd be a good 4c energy line guy, he's looked most effective in that role with Lemieux next to him. He starts to flounder when given more than that to handle.

Lol too many "generic hockey guy" names to keep track of.

David Oliver
Greg Brown
Gord Murphy

Even David Quinn.

Those are just computer generated names in NHL 20 when you simulate a few seasons forward.

I once got a coach named Alexei Kovalev in NHL 20. Like really, EA? That's the auto generated name I get? Creative.

If Greg Brown leaves thats honestly okay with me.

I want an experienced coach who actually has experience coaching a successful defense. Is anyone available to do that?

I understand why people wouldnt want to give up the assets for lindholm, but just for fun, if you did do it for ADA. And then traded Buch for some D help wouldnt this lineup just be so much damn fun...

Kreider/Zib/Kakko
Panarin/Strome/Fast
Laf/Chytil/Lindholm
Lemiux/Howden/Gauthier

If they trade for Lindholm it won't be to play on the wing.

I would like them to try and bring back Ulfie if possible. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the defense played really well for him until he left for Car's AHL team

Are we assuming Fast stays? I'm seeing these projected lines everywhere with Fast still here next year.

I think they bring him back. Perfect guy to fill in on a young team. Important PK'r on a team that now has a ton of offensive guys and I think with the flat cap he won't be too expensive to bring back on a few year deal.

And the Rangers shouldn't give up that package. Case in point.

You seem to be in the camp of retaining DeAngelo and giving a 5M+ contract to your third best RHD? What happens when that point production goes the way of Shayne Ghostisbehere?

I'll take a 20 point 3rd dman who can actually play defense any day of the week over giving DeAngelo a big contract to not play defense.

Elias Lindholm at 4.8M for the next 4 years while playing reliable 2C minutes would be a fantastic addition to the team and is worth paying for, but I honestly don't see the Flames being willing to let him go.

There's some suggesting he's gonna be better lol

With a better partner, he absolutely could be.

Maybe he doesn't throw up a 60+ point season, but I don't see why consistent production in the 50's is so far fetched. DeAngelo's 5v5 production was out of this world good this season, especially when you consider who he played most of his minutes with. Staal's impacts are horrible everywhere, but his offensive and transition numbers are easily the worst part of his game, and DeAngelo STILL managed to do what he did.

He has his warts as a player, but lets not act like he's Pionk.

Why would it? No serious question, what evidence do you have that points to this being the most likely scenario?

He was unarguably this teams 2nd best defenseman this year and he was 3rd in TOI 5v5. Who cares what side he lines up on or what hand he shoots with?
