After watching these kids in Traverse, do you really see any of them capable of making the big club or are they just going throw them into the fire?

Perhaps this guy can make the team. He's the captain on that Traverse team, so it looks like they see something special in him. He knows he's being evaluated in these games, and how important it is to show what he can do.

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
No PTO's.

I don't see them as being ready to make the jump and unlike some of the other posters, I do think that this tournament is extremely important for evaluation.
It's it sole purpose for existing.

Excuses are getting old around here.
Every other team goes into this on the same exact terms and to blame the coaching or saying that there's no chemistry or it's a weak roster just doesn't fly in my book.

Clark was super pissed last year to the point where they even removed his interview from the NYR website so if anyone actually thinks that these tournaments aren't important to the organization are completely out to lunch IMO..
With the shitty video and since I only saw two of the three games, I’m not sure who makes the team. Howden and Hayak looked to me like they could definitely be candidates and I also liked Meskanen. There will be 2-3 rookies on the roster.

Is it good if the Rangers are the worst team in the league and Chytil/Andersson/Howden/Pionk/DeAngelo etc. fail to make the team or make the team and are huge disappointments?

If Chytil and Lias don't make the team, I see that as a positive because their contracts will slide another year.

We won't get that kind of prospect back for Zucc.

Not only does he not have the pedigree/reputation of Patches, teams will also be paying for a few months+playoffs vs a whole season.

Plus theres the risk of him declining even further.

I'll respectfully disagree

Zuccs is a better player than Nash and teams pay more at the deadline than right before the season starts when most rosters have been finalized for the up coming season.

I always believed the rebuild would take several years of drafting/development for any of it to even begin to show potential. My expectations have not changed. With the way their cap structure is set up, it sure looks to me like they still have three trade deadlines worth of selling pretty much lined up. If there is only limited progress among the up and comers by the time the Lundqvist contract is entering it's final year then I think even I would be concerned that the rebuild is failing. Until then I expect them to not be very good while they focus on draft, adding prospects and developing. If that means the prospects drafted two or even three drafts ago are still in the AHL I see that as just part of what I expected a rebuild to be like.

your analysis is being made under the false pretense that we are trying to win or put together a good team. under normal circumstances i'd agree with a lot of what you are saying but they didn't upgrade the team on purpose.

There's a very fine line between not upgrading the team on purpose, and just not being a good enough FO to build a competitive team. I suppose the difference here would be between the 'glass half full' and 'glass half empty' crowds.

Sure, but this same front office was responsible for one of the best stretches of play in this franchises’ history.

They’ve told everyone they’re rebuilding. I don’t know why people act like they’re shocked that they aren’t taking the measures to marginally improve the roster. They’re clearly trying to get a feel for what they have now and decide who is worth keeping and who isn’t.

I mean, sure. I have plenty of thoughts on this sort of thinking that I don't feel like getting into today, or ever on HF, really.

But, you aren't wrong. This team is rebuilding. The Rangers are bad. The FO has taken us in this direction to hopefully be good again one day. That's where this organization decided they are.

Filip's contract will slide, Lias's will not.

Wrong. Lias' contract can slide a 2nd time.

From the CBA:

Players who sign at 18 years old are eligible to have their contract extended for 2 seasons. This extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 in his signing year. Signing bonuses do not slide, and are paid to the player regardless of a slide, this causes the annual average of the players contract to change, and therefore the cap hit decreases for this player.

Andersson was 18 when he signed his ELC. When Kravtsov signs his contract, it won't slide even once because it is signed in the calendar-year where he turns 20, same with Mittelstadt. I have been explaining this 50 times over the last few months but will keep doing it ;)

Mcquaid eats a lot of minutes and has lots of that "C" word, but he's pretty terrible otherwise on my eye test from what I remember. His underlying numbers, actually....aren't that bad.

So....McQuaid is a RD. ADA, Pionk, Shattenkirk. Perhaps they believe one of these guys will be sitting?

In the overall scheme of things, I like the idea of adding McQuaid to start the season an then moving him at the deadline. He should return more than a 4th at the deadline as a veteran rental
