Would you trade the 2018 1st for Athanasiou?
I'd trade a lottery protected first for Anthanasiou .

I believe he has 25-30 goal ability, though, to go along with being a shit disturber due to his speed. Detroit is botching this completely but that's not a surprise. Most incompetent organization in the league right now, right there with the Avs.

Why did not Jeff Gorton take away Martinsen from Julien with Canadians. He had 41 pts. season in Germany, 27 years old - had two seasons with Avalanche who suck nutbawls team in NHL, and he is better and more experience compare to our average 4th line wingers with ECL contracts, except Fast & Oscar Lindberg.
It`s a thing with AV he like DD and small players, but we need size out there! It`s not pond hockey - it`s a physical sport. And if Gorton tries to improve our team that 600k salary with Martinsen was a gold mine, but he is gone now since Julien will probably use him later this season - so I`m sad. :)

Instead we end up with Paul Carey who is 29 and 2 years older compare to Martinsen, comeòn.. comeone!!
ok, Paul had a good camp, but so had Martinsen with 1 assist and some Canadian fans were surprised that he was sent down, and I will be on Paul Carvey nuts the remaining of the season if he cost us points this year. What is AV & Gorton see him Paul C. he have 2 pts in his whole NHL career which is total of 32 games. I will go so far and utter I feel bad for Boo Nieves who don`t get a chance in age of 23 - I think he has much higher ceiling compare to Paul and faster - and Boo Nieves fit in the AV system so questionable decisions from our management & coaching staff who are suppose to improve our team to compete this year!

Martinsen is an awful player, not even close to NHL calibre, Carey is twice the player Martinsen is.

We just have to disagree I guess 2 pts in 32 NHL games, Paul Carey. And that is not one season, but his whole NHL career.

I live in Denver and watch almost all Avalanche games because they are free. Martinsen is terrible. I wouldn't waste a roster spot on him.

Avalanche is a terrible team @tbassler - they are rebuilding. I`m just saying 118 NHL games 18 pts. is a lot better and more experience compare to 2 f***ing pts. and 32 total NHL like Paul Carey games and he is 2 years older.

That`s my arguement, but forget about Martinsen - my other point he is wasting Boo Nieves and guys in Wolfpack time who have higher skill ceiling and draft pick.

Carey had a good preseason and is going to be the 13th or sent down when Fast is back, not a big deal.

We just have to disagree I guess 2 pts in 32 NHL games, Paul Carey. And that is not one season, but his whole NHL career.

Those 32 games are spread out over several seasons, his average TOI is just over 8 minutes per game.

We don't have enough data on Carey to make any conclusion on him in the NHL, we do however know that he's a good AHLer.
We do have enough data to say that Andreas Martinsen is not a good NHLer, he's actually a very bad NHLer, odds are pretty good that Carey would produce better results then Martinsen if given the same game time.

Edit: Worth emphasising that i'm not saying that Carey is good, i'm saying that i take the unknown over the known (very) bad any day of the week.

Who is to say that Carey doesnt continue to play well and sticks? He is 28 and mature. This is his chance. Maybe he is like a Brian Boyle type player. Decent enough and simply plays a solid 4th line type game. Ya never know.

Fine, I don`t like the P. Carey move at all - I think it`s waste of a contract spot, and there are others we should focus on in Wolfpack who deserve that spot. The TOI arguement is weak and u know it - most 4th liners get limited TOI - unless they are borderline 3rd line players like Fast & Grabner.

No, he have 2 pts. in 32 NHL games and he is 29 - not even close to what Brian Boyle did or can do in NHL.

Carey is a guy who can sit on a bench and you’re not going to ruin his development. Plus he has some history with Kreider and Hayes. Maybe they thought Nieves has another season in Hartford

I can understand that reasoning @Avery16 - we don`t know all the details with training sessions, but I can`t support that move, because I don`t see any future with him.

I like him but not that much--at least not for the 2018 draft.

I am not a huge fan of Carey making the team but I can live with it because of this.

Sometimes you just need a warm body.

Hes gone when Fast returns.

Your point about Martinsen having the ability to be a human wrecking ball is well taken. He's capable of that though not consistently.

As far as the rest of your argument--Martinsen simply is not a good player. Is it because he's a Norwegian?

I can see Carey ahead of Nieves as well. Carey despite what you might think about his NHL stats has become an excellent AHL level player. Very very few AHL players any more ever are able to put up point a game stats in any season which Carey did last year. This isn't to say that Carey is going to last with the Rangers but he's not nearly as bad as you're making him out to be.

i prefer to keep our 1st round picks. good teams are built thru the draft. i say no to trading away 1st rounders esp next years.

AA is a solid speed guy with upside but trading that 1st for him doesnt excite me

I can understand that reasoning @Avery16 - we don`t know all the details with training sessions, but I can`t support that move, because I don`t see any future with him.

It's not about the future. It's about this year. If he sticks with the Rangers and does well, great. If he gets sent down at some point, he's a great player to have in the AHL, both because he can be called up in a pinch and because he's a good AHL player and will help the kids win.

Who are we giving that contract to if not him? Some prospect with limited upside? We've got enough of those already. We need good AHL veterans so that Hartford isn't the dumpster fire it was last year. As a 13th or 14th forward in the NHL, he's good because no one cares if he sits for 10 games at a time. Players like Gropp, Nieves, etc. need to be in the AHL playing big minutes. They aren't going to get that in the NHL.

Don't get hung up on what the roster looks like on day 1. The roster will no doubt be different by the end of the season. Paul Carey will either prove he belongs in the NHL, or he will prove he's nothing more than a very good AHL player and that's where he will be playing.
