Vesey and Grabner both should be on the third line. Everything I saw of Grabner in preseason says he’s going to score goals again. Maybe not 27 but I’d be surprised if he didn’t put up around 20.

The wild card continues to be chytilmania. If he had gone back to Europe Miller would be in the middle and vesey and Grabner would be on the third line together.

This really is what I expect soon enough

Then the question is who comes up to play with Jesper and DD? Carey is your 13th so who gets the call? IMO it’s probably Nieves at that point.

At this point, I'd be more comfortable with Lettieri or Fontaine being called up. Yes, they are 1st year pros, but they are showing more than Nieves so far.

Barring any kind of trade or waiver claim, I'd say things are pretty much set. They seem set on giving Carey the opportunity, and Nieves stuck around until the end. It gives you an idea of the pecking order, at least as far as bottom-6 roles go.

The first nine games will tell us a lot. I'm pretty certain Chytil will ultimately be returned. If he plays but doesn't fare as well, he'll be returned. If he plays the 9 but looks absolutely gassed, he'll be returned. He can prove he belongs, but my money is on him getting returned.

At that point, it's tricky. Miller was predominantly used on the wing in pre-season, so I figure he'll stay there and they'll see the C depth as Zib, Hayes, DD, and Carey (woof).

Don't think Grabner on the 3rd and Vesey on the 4th has that much to do with Grabner vs Vesey as Grabner being a better fit on the 3rd and the 4th especially being much better with Vesey on it than Grabner (wouldn't be a big fan of Grabner-Desharnais-Carey)...

I think one of the following happens:

Chytil remains with team after game 9.

Gorton makes a deal for a 2C or 3C.

Miller shifts back over to C after Chytil is returned.

What I don’t think will happen:

DD at 3C

Carey at 4C barring injury to DD.

I’ve changed my mind, I’m on board with a Jurco claim. I don’t think he’ll drop to us though, and it’s no huge loss.

Also, his sister is really attractive.

She is hockey player too. Not sure where you saw her picture but I do not think it was Petra Jurcova to be honest. As for Jurco, he just is not good, no wonder he did not get claimed. What a shame, we really (Slovaks) expected so much from him.

Yes she’s on the Slovak women’s team. There are photos of them in matching Slovak jerseys. Reminds me of when I was glad Pascal Rheaume was on the Blues (my second favorite team) for no other reason than that his sister is Manon.

So I guess the roster is finalized. I’m guessing if we sign Desjardins, it’ll be a two-way deal

That 2018 first is our safety net if this season turns south. We’ve already added two young Cs for the future in this past draft, and next season will offer is the opportunity to bring in a young stud at wing with that pick. Imagine getting Zadina to play with Chytil for the next decade?

With that being said, I do want to go for it this season, but I don’t want to spend anymore assets to get there. The defense should be much better, Hank should revert to normal, and I think the young kids will take the next step. I think we’ll end up third in our division or the first wild card

OF COurse we have zero reporting on our finalized roster

They're at the roster limit with Fast on IR...really at 24 with Fogarty still apparently on the roster but I think everyone knows he'll be sent down or whatever is happening there.

That doesn't include Desjardins. I assume if you LTIR Fast then you can bring in Desjardins but doesn't explain why he doesn't have a contract right now if they're going to keep him.

He scored over 20 goals in two of his first three years. Prior to last year, the last time he scored that many was back in 2011-2012. So yeah, I see his 27 last year as a complete fluke.

Vesey netted 16 last year. He has many more steps to grow and take forward. If he were not playing on the 4th line, I would say that I think that his chances of scoring 20 were better than Grabner's.

This not a disparagement of Grabner. He is a good 3rd/4th liner who brings various things to the team. But I would be very wary of him coming close to the offensive outburst of last year again.

Health, team environment, personal life, coaches, and training are all things that you do not have nearly the full picture on that can definitely contribute to worse [or better] seasons.

Is Fast injured long enough for LTIR to be an option? I thought not. Besides, why move mountains for Desjardins? We may have released him by now if not for the suspension

Looks like this will be the team we will be meeting in the opener:

FORWARDS
Sven Andrighetto -- Nathan MacKinnon -- Mikko Rantanen
Alex Kerfoot -- Matt Duchene -- Nail Yakupov
Gabriel Landeskog -- J.T. Compher -- Colin Wilson
Matt Nieto -- Tyson Jost -- Blake Comeau

DEFENSE
Nikita Zadorov -- Erik Johnson
Patrik Nemeth -- Tyson Barrie
Mark Barberio -- Chris Bigras

GOALIES
Semyon Varlamov

Scratches: Joe Colborne, Andrei Mironov, Carl Söderberg, Jonathan Bernier

Sign me up for a Staal (retained salary) for Söderberg deal a bit down the line. The No movement is of course a hurdle

A second rounder will likely not become AA. But you never know. His ELC is burned minimizing the contract value a little too. Holden and a third would be great, but probably not realistic
