They play LW out of their natural position I know that Kadri is a C.

This isn't true, all their LWs are natural LWs (Hyman, JvR, Marleau and Martin), all their Cs are natural C's aswell... Nylander and Marner were C's in juniors but both projected as RWs in the NHL and are probably on the RW to stay, so i really don't get your argument...

Also, none of their C's can handle the usage Kadri gets, if they trade Kadri and move Nylander to C, who takes the tough usage? It just doesn't make sense at all for Leafs to trade Kadri, he's also on a good contract to boot.

Define “hot” commodity... if we retain and do it before the TD? Mayyyyyyybe a 1st?

At the TD retention doesn’t help much.
Yes it does. Just look at the Staal and Yandle trades where we had them retain salary. If a team is tight on cap space, retention helps you milk an extra asset or two from the opposing team

I would be pleasantly surprised if we could get a first for Nash at this point given his glaring lack of production. You take that and run.

Retain some of the $7.8M cap hit and $8.2M salary for this season. Nash will have $1,677,419 left at the trading deadline. Cap hit wise. 40 days left. 186 day season.

I'm not going to freak out 4 games into the season, but I'm annoyed we're not icing our best team.

Trade Holden. Demote Carey and DeAngelo. Call up Chytil, Lettieri, and Pionk. Cracknell sits as the 13th forward, Kampfer as the 7th D.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Nash-Chytil-Zucc (for crying out loud, give the kid a chance to actually play before you sit him)
Vesey-Hayes-Miller
Grabner-Desharnais-Lettieri

McD-Smith
Skjei-Shattenkirk
Staal-Pionk

You had me up until "call up Chytil" statement. Let's see if he even can look comfortable at the AHL level before bringing him back up. Miller looked comfortable as 2C with Zuke and Nash. No need to change for now.
Lettieri looked worse than Carey in preseason and he doesn't have a benefit of even a limited exposure to the NHL. I'll pass for now as well. Not impressed with DD or the new guy from Dallas but I'll wait for Fast to come back and bringing up Nieves.

When you see what some players return at the deadline, I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't get a first. Nash is the perfect acquisition for a team that needs depth scoring. PKs, good 5v5, has the potential to carry a team if he gets hot.

He would be one of the better players moved at the deadline in recent years.

Didn't Smith get married this summer? Probably didn't prepare for the season as well as he normally would.
That contract was both a gift and a responsibility. It’s pretty sad he didn’t take it seriously. Strap in for the next four years of Smith making millions and underperforming.

Ola, I really think Smith didn't train hard enough this offseason. In his summer visit with Amanda Borges he mentioned he had about 8 weddings including his own which was in DC from pictures. He clearly said weddings almost every weekend. Yes most guy don't train 7 days a week unless your name is Kreider or Crosby, but that's a lot of time traveling, not recovering properly, and being in situations where diets kind of go out the window (any wedding I've ever been too has been more about the food than the liquor). Not saying he can't follow it, but do you really see him asking for quinoa and grilled chicken at every one of these?

Coming to camp out of shape is looked at as very insulting in any league especially the NHL. This isn't the 70s/80s when guys would spend all summer drinking beer and fishing. Rangers have had too defensemen since the league restarted in 05-06 come to camp badly out of shape and neither really recovered (Kaspar in 06-07, and Sangs in 09-10).

Think this is a bit of a risk with NA players, very contract year oriented...

I have very little interest in players that don’t help us beyond this season — even if they fill a center hole this year.

I’d be interested in younger guys than Kadri and Turris. Not that they are old, but just think the younger guys will pay off better relative price.

I don`t know what u guys see in Carey - our 4th line has never been as flat as now. Almost nothing happens, but the new waiver signing was positive and helped the line.

Kadri is not for sale - they won`t move him due to center depth some old Leaf fans who follow their team for years mention it earlier in another forum section here, @Ola .

smurf David D. does not help us - unfortunate goal in pre season which was a lucky bounce, and the 2nd PP unit has been horrific. :)

"nothing happens" is much better then "getting completely caved in while throwing some hits" like the description was when we had Glass on there.

I really don't get your obsession with size, i think it's stupid to care that much about size, look at on ice results instead.

Yes, because including but not limited to Thornton is too slow, does not ft, is too expensive, denies young talent opportunity, and Helm at 3.8 is overpriced, but in the full deal I posted we upgrade a 4th to a likely high 2nd in a weak draft, and he is an immediate upgrade on DD, and we are not married to the guy all 4 years. Holden not moving so fast. Need to remove LD clutter. Do that. By end of this year or next we can move him at relatively low cost.

One man's ceiling is another man's floor. What you call madness, others might call ..... and that's enough for now. Professor has to finish his taxes.

Agreed, and in a vacuum I too vote no. But this is not a vacuum. It is means to buy pick upgrade, dump DD who will have nothing in the tank by end of year, and move 2 pieces of deadwood for one lesser piece who can be moved later.

On this, we agree.

I don't know if you are the only one, but Stepan had to go, esp with a pending NMC/NTC kicking in; plus he's overrated. Good yes, spectacular, never. He was always considered by some as more than he was, and we were always better off with what he brought in trade than actual production. Pity he was not moved til recently.
Smith, the prob there is we invested a 2nd + a 3rd to get him, and we did not sign him -- which became necessary at any kind of a reasonable # --- we would have pissed those picks away.

So he cost that as a rental.
At decent term we should be able to recover our investment and slightly more at some point. He will get back into form soon enough and some team will have an injury.
But again, the stupid win now move comes back to bite in the ass.
Stepan had to go because of NMC/NTC so we could give Smith a longterm contract with a NTC?

Not sure why you think adding another new player to the 4th will bring an immediate improvement to their play. That is unlikely. Best thing we can do is let these three develop some chemistry, add Fast as soon as he’s ready.

It`s a (modified) M-NTC player submits 15 teams tradelist. 10 team list after 2019 - so Smith can be moved. It makes absolutely no sense since playoffs - maybe that was the main reason Devils moved him? I don`t have a better explanation why AV bench a newly signed player for over 4 mil $ cap hit that cause major havoc in our lineup this season and Stepan gone.
