Vegas would likely want to get back forwards and unload some D along with, and not the good D, so I'm not sure the Rangers match up very well.

He also has a $4.5M cap hit, so we'd have to figure out a way to move salary. We currently have just over $1.5M in space.

What would a trade for Ship even look like? Knowing how GMGM has done thus far, he'll probably be swindled in a trade.

It would solve our center depth immediately.

When McPhee got the job I instantly pitched the idea that he might ruin the entire organization, lol it was maybe a little drastic but McPhee hasn’t improved much on me.

What can you get for an UFA you just signed?

One thing that irks me is that it seems like McPhee really have burnt a lot of bridges around the league, and he doesn’t seem to be interested in dealing with people not respecting him (he made a deal with an old timer like Lou and so forth).

Only reason he's actively trying to leave the league is because his GM messed up badly so he can't play in the NHL right now... He's a KHL superstar, why would he be OK with that? Especially in an Olympics year.

Correct me if I am wrong, but he could play in the NHL if GMGM waived anyone of the worthless players he picked up in the Expansion Draft, right?

If Nash wants Marleau money, let him walk, but I disagree about the team having enough wings

They have zero wings in the pipeline who have a legit shot to make it
The Rangers would be fine on the wing without Nash. Maybe the Rangers can select a winger in the first round with their own #1 pick or the #1 pick acquired for Nash. They talk about Vesey taking the next step but that’s not happening on the 4th line.

I like the plan of sending Chytil back to Zlin and having Cracknell get regular fourth line minutes until Fast comes back, and then Cracknell can sit in the press box until an injury happens. No need to call up someone from the Wolf Pack as we'd have 13F at that point. Release Desjardins from PTO.

Until Fast comes back, we carry 12F and call up Lettieri or someone if there is an injury.

KZB
Nash-Miller-Zucc
Grabner-Hayes-Vesey
Carey-DD-Cracknell
(Fast)

Cracknell very much a Hitchcock player, but didn’t figure on him also being a Ruff player. Could do worse, but have to wonder what the plan is with Carey, Nieves, Puempel, Etc

Hot take incoming...

Vesey had 11 goals, 8 assists last year at even strength. He shouldn’t see PP time on this years team.

He’s 24 and is not good without the puck. He’s not great at anything. He’s the definition of a bottom 6 guy/supporting guy.

If he’s the centerpiece of our future, our future is bleak.

I don't think anyone is expecting him to be the "centerpiece".

He also put up those numbers in his first season while averaging just over 13 minutes of ice time. He certainly can be a piece on a successful team. And despite him being 24, his age isn't really that relevant. He's not 24 with 6 years of NHL experience. He's played 1 season. Some level of improvement can be expected.

Shipachyov also knows Buch well. They are from the same city in Russia. They came from the same KHL academy, played together on two different KHL teams, so we have a player that could be a big help to him getting acclimated.

I know it's not likely, but if we could move Vesey in a deal for Ship I would look into it.

Completely agree. That's the one piece we should consider move and they might take it. Shipachyov is better right now than Vesey ever will be, so while the cap hit is considerable, we could move around some pieces to get it to work. Trade Holden for cap space. Only problem is that while Vesey might not be all that great, he's still one of our 12 best forwards. We'd still have forward depth problems.

True, but theoretically we could really bolster the top-6/9, and Desharnais, Fast, Cracknell, and maybe Nieves could form a decent 4th line. I just don't think Vesey is all that good, and while VS is an unknown, if he is as good as he was in the K we could really solve our C problem.

I like Vesey, he is a very smart player with a solid skill set. I don’t really buy the argument that he isn’t inexperienced because of his age, the NHL is the NHL and Vesey plays a game where he will need a little time to settle in.

You build a team around 22 good players. Vesey can definitely be one of those players.

To be honest, GMGM is in no position to ask for Vesey in return for Shipachyov. If he isn’t traded to a spot he likes he is back in the KHL in the blink of an eye.
