Trading a young winger for a center is incredibly short sighted...

Look at our roster and current prospects.

Nash, Zucc, grabner, fast all have contracts coming up or are considered tradable.

With chytil and Andersson and Nieves in the pipeline and no top 6 level wings anywhere in pipeline. Keep the wings we have and allow our centers to continue to develop

I don’t think anyone is talking about trading Miller for Turris. One person asked whether people would trade Miller for Turris and everyone says no. I think that particular hypothetical is decidedly nixed.

Avery- With Turris contract demands (which doesn’t seem like that nutty), I either see him as a rental or a huge investment for the future. In both cases we would have to pay Ottawa a lot to get him now as opposed to on July 1 for free. Hayes? Hayes had 49 pts last season while Turris had 55 is a much bigger role. So a 1st and 2nd in 18’? Zucc?

In the end, I just don’t think Turris would put us over the top and I don’t even think he makes much sense in the long run, and he would be a huge investment. The ends just don’t meet for me.

JMHO. :)

McPhee is making decisions in Vegas. It looks like Lindberg will end up in the bottom 6 rather than top 6 for them.

Knowing McPhee he is surely auctioning of a couple of contracts that cannot be waived to the highest bidder.

I would love to see Gorton trying to work something out with McPhee regarding Lindberg. We are not set on the 4th line, I wouldn’t bet on it at least. Based on the price Vegas got for Picard I can’t imagine that the price would be extremely high.

Don’t get me wrong, Lindberg would hardly be a game changer for us. A 2nd rounder would be too much IMO. But if Gorton could get something done giving up less I would definitely be for it. Continuity and depth is so important. We will get injuries. Is Chytil ready? Even so, I much rather see Desharnais as our 13th forward and Carey as our 14th than 10-11...

Further, even if Anderson is ready next season — he isn’t a 4th line center. Who is our 4th line center for the future? If nothing else, Lindberg could be a Sergei Nemchinov type in that role for a handful of years.

Hehe, George McPhee decided to call the bluffs out there or whatever the saying is and had his team play its first game ever in the NHL without its top center.

Shipachyov is waiver exempt and so is Montour, Vegas has demoted both to the AHL to get more time to try to move players they picked up in the expansion draft before they are put on waivers. GM said that demoting Shipachyov gave him two more days to work the phone from the time he had to make the cuts and the first game, which apparently wasn’t enough.

Gorton should go and get Lindberg back. He was on the third line for Vegas. Seems like he would be demoted to the 4th when Shipachyov is back.

Nieves and a 4th? A 3rd?

It would be worth it in my opinion, we need more depth this season and OL also can fill that 4th line C role in the future.

When a player is always a chore to resign, I'll pass.

I like Turris but this is the second time he's trying to hold up a team.

They can keep him.

Kyle Turris wants a big contract. He will be a group III this summer. His agent is Kurt Overhardt. You guys don't check on the status of the player's contract before proposing this stuff?

This is why everyone attacks you, talking down to everyone as always. Then you play the victim.

You can only play 4 guys at center...

Do you believe our future 4 aren’t already in the system? I do.

Zibby
Our savior(Chytil)
Hayes
Andersson

If that’s our team in two years that’s elite depth..

Matches up perfectly with shesty coming over. Team is keeping its head above water and ready to go then

Don't like Turris, but I'd look at a cheap guy like Adam Lowry or maybe Hanzal (depending on how Dallas looks come March)

I get this, but where will we be in net in two years? I think we owe it to Hank to try for a cup with him.

It really depends on your point of view. If all goes right it could be very good as you said but right now a pessimist would say no elite center. Hayes is a #3 not a #2. Chytil has only played 1 NHL game. Anderson has to prove he will be a good NHL center.

Hayes is a 3 in my list.
Chytil has shown he will be a NHL scoring center. Where he lands in the top 6 is up for debate. But him being listed as a 2C right now is a very good sign.
Andersson is more than capable of being a 4C on par with Lindberg right now.

Two things: 1) Buch admitted he had injury problems, so I guess so much for the conspiracy theories about AV hating him, and 2) can Brooks make it any more obvious that he ghosts these boards with the, “But wait, isn’t this the coach who doesn’t like young guys” comment.

He can, actually. I was on another board more than ten years ago when a user claiming to be Larry Brooks started posting. Of course, there was a shitstorm of controversy, and the board demanded he offer proof- that he mention something in his next article. Lo and behold, the next article mentioned the board by name (although veiled). He stopped posting not long after that. So yes, he could be more obvious.

Will Butcher tearing it up today. We were more about Kerfoot, but I wonder if he would have signed with us

This is going to be a tough year to watch if pre-season and game 1 are trends.

They will need to put Shatty outside a shutdown role, and hope that Smith (whose character I love, but smarts I don't) can rekindle something with McD from their college days as the shutdown pair. Otherwise it is going to be a very long year filled with poor structure and mistakes.

Foward group wise... I think they are low on depth... but that's okay if you can fill the slots properly... IE AV getting off of his stubborn stupor and playing Miller in the middle in a shutdown capacity. Let him have 10 games to adjust.

The approach is way too theoretical on paper, and not actionable on the ice imo... and the brass will need to address in the next two weeks before the season slips away by Thanksgiving.

If Chytiljuice isn't going to play, send him down.... put Miller in the middle. Get a winger and depth center.

They need glue guys that can hold things together. This team doesn't have that at the moment. And the PK has declined 3 years straight.

Anyway I'm also for the change to Zone-D with this group. Trading chances will not do good for this squad. The skill level isn't there, the RH shots for the attack off the rush, and off cycle one-tees are not there.

I just watched a DVRed game of EDM, and clips of the other contenders. Rangers are in the bottom half of the league unless they can make some adjustments quickly.

CLB is ready to take the next step... especially if PLD and Jones have greater impacts. McJesus looks like he's toying with guys out there... really fun to watch.. I suggest some you check out some Oiler games.

I’m betting it’s more likely Smith moves down the pairings, not up.

Wings much easier to find than Centers
