The Blueshirts are not physical or malevolent enough. It is not in their DNA. They are not big enough. They are not young enough up front in a young man’s league that becomes far more demanding once the tournament commences.

The Rangers are screwed. Nothing will change at the trade deadline.

I'm all for bringing in more grit, but it has to be in form of players who are actually good.

I think getting Chytil back and ditching the Brodz,Bonino,Blake and Barclay and replacing them with better players would go a much longer way than just bringing in angry players who hit things. Angry players who hits things and are good aren't readily available either.

What, you don't want to relive the Nordstrom/Ferraro for Kurri/McSorley/Churla trade again?!?!?

If the Rangers are talking to the Avs, maybe it's interest in Johansen, a former Lavi guy in Nashville. Goodrow involved going the other way.

Imo, add a couple pieces but keep your important prospects and high picks, we could go on a crazy run and wicup this year but imo, we're still a year away, we need Othmann, Sykora, Berard, Robertson all to take roles on this team instead of Bonino and company. I believe management has the same opinon or they'd have Othmann up and staying up by now. I'm hopeful we are patient, i like our makeup between what we have on the team and what we have coming up.

If we want to get younger at forward this season, the move to make is adding Pinto. Just came back from the suspension at 1 year league minimum. He’s not staying in Ottawa. Would Ottawa say no to a 1st for a guy who doesn’t want to be there? Still just 23 with plenty of team control. Passes the smell test to me

Add a middle 6 C/W to go along with Chytil coming back, and an upgrade over Jones at 7C, and we're a wagon. Not only this season, but going forward. Our "system" is sick on W, and we don't have a specific need at G, so we're sooo close to set.

I don't want to trade a 1st, but this coming 2nd is in play, imo.

I'm big on him as a fit. If OTT isn't taking offers, then there are a couple guys that fit the "$1m-ish C/W" mould.

I don't know if ARI is open to it, but Jack McBain looks like a piece. Sean Monahan's a layup rental fit. 1st is off the table, but our 2nd's in play.

I don't think he wants out and I dunno why they'd trade him.

He wanted to get paid but that's different than wanting out.

Ottawa wants to sign Pinto to a long-term contract. The new management team is not looking to trade Pinto. Elliotte Friedman reported Ottawa is looking at a 5-6 year extension for Pinto.

Nothing has really changed with the Rangers this season. People refer to the Florida Panthers from last season. The Panthers have Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett. Those two players are tough to play against. They gave teams so many issues in the playoffs last season. I saw the Panthers last night against Nashville. Tkachuk and Bennett played their big and heavy game. The Rangers have the same team. Chris Drury has no money to make any significant moves. The Rangers have no money. It's the same issue every year. The Rangers have these soft players throughout their lineup. Panarin will disappear in the playoffs. The Rangers PP will disappear. Good luck. The Rangers need so many things. More size and strength in the top 6. The Rangers D is not good enough. The media is captivated by Gustafsson's fancy stats. The goalie can't stop a beach ball.

Elliotte Friedman doesn't believe the Maple Leafs will make any significant moves at the deadline because management doesn't believe the team is good enough to win four playoff rounds. Are the Rangers good enough to win four playoff rounds?

The Rangers struggled to beat Anaheim. The Rangers are playing San Jose tonight who played in LA last night. The Rangers saving grace is the other teams also stink and someone needs to win these games.

That’s not a crazy thought but Goodrow has 2 more years on him

I’d like to say they will make a creative deal but it’s hard with this years cap

People talking about DeAngelo, Reaves, Lemieux, etc

All those players stink. No one disagrees with having players who are willing to stir shit up if they’re actually good.

What are we doing here?

"Grit" (which is always used as something we need) should be an additional feature for a player, not the only thing that defines that player.

It's the difference between guys like Tkachuk/Marchand/Wilson/Dorsett/Prust/Ward and the plethora of useless bums like Powe/Newbury/Reaves who are not NHL-caliber players, but solely got contracts because they hit people.

It's very similar to the whole height-debate that people have all the time. Sure, anyone would pick Hedman over McIlrath but not because Hedman is big, but because he's a good player who is big.

Nobody in their right mind would pick McIlrath over Fox, Spurgeon, Makar or Quinn Hughes. A shit player who is 6'6" is going to do f*** all to help you win. The same logic applies to a guy who just hits people. Let the Islanders overpay for those bums. Their fanbase glorifies their 4th line as if they have led them to 3 consecutive cups.

Blah blah blah…. They only need for Chytil to come back and Shesterkin to regain his playing level we know he has.

Somehow a team that:
1. Has had only one driving line the whole season
2. Has had underperforming starting goalie
3. Has had 3 underperforming top-4 D

Still finds itself at the top of the division. You got to put things you see in the context. The Rangers are not playing in a “vacuum” - their success or failure is relative to other teams in the league and there’s still 3+ months to settle / figure things out until playoffs.

Guys like Lafreniere and Cuylle could be those players for us, but its almost like they are influenced to not play the rough game as much when they play with perimeter guys like Panarin and Zibanejad. Kreider also looks like much more of this player away from Meeka. I can look past it with Panarin because hes tracking for about 50 goals this year, but Zibanejad's turn the other cheek and avoid contact at all costs style trickles down. He didnt even know what to do when trying to stick up for Lindgren. Why play tough when your top center and biggest leaders doesn't have your back?

Young players look up to the veterans on the team. They try to emulate the way they play. The problem is that our top players care more about having a good time, than about actually playing the right way. The whole "Happy to be here" attitude has been an issue on this team for years. And having a coach for the last 2 years who doesn't address it, just amplified that even more.

Laviolette has the chance to make a difference with this team but it requires some unpopular decisions both in the eyes of fans and the players.
