Girard doesn’t make sense. I can’t see the Rangers adding an undersized PMD to this group. Goes against everything they’ve ever done.

Byram makes sense but I don’t see a deal to be made there either. If they’re going to
Move a LD, I doubt they want a LD back. I don’t see a deal based around any of the forwards that works either.

Would be really intrigued to see him with Fox though.

Listening to the Don LaGreca podcast and even he and EJ Hradek, who are usually the least reactionary guys around, are saying that the lineup has gotten stale, saying Laviolette should move somethings around, and even floating out the idea that 20 and 93 should be split up, maybe give Cuylle a shot on Zibanejads wing…

I mean, if these guys are even saying it, how f***ing deaf and blind are the coaches to not see this?

It’s infuriating.
The most frustrating thing is that Anahiem is like the 4th game where we scored a bunch of goals after tinkering with the lines, and every time, he goes back to the lines he had.

They actually hated the move of Kakko down and Panarin to the top line. Said it was extremely short sighted and I tend to agree.

Hey I have no problem and agree with Lavi changing up the lines that aren't actually working but this isn't the game I'd point to as the new lines looked worse. They scored a PP goal, then a goal from the only line that Lavi didn't change during the game, then another PP goal, he had already reverted the lines back (probably because he saw what we all saw) when Kreider then scored.

I don't know if it matters because unless Mika gets his head out his ass 5v5 and Chytil doesn't return to form, they are going to have a hard time having three dangerous offensive lines no matter the switches.

You have to let things cook.

The lines they started the game with were the ones that were together when those goals were scored.

Minus the empty net goal.

Fwiw, I hated the lines that he switched to. I’m grateful that it looks like Chytil is coming back soon bc then Kreider and play with him and we will all rejoice.

Yeah, but you have to have the right ingredients. We've seen the dish that a Panarin-Zbad pairing make and I'm not eating it. Furthermore, Zbad, for whatever reason, is looking like a veggie that's turned brown with some mold on it.

I'm all for breaking up the BFFs but I'd like to see some sound logic behind it, not a rehash of Panarin with Mika again. Also, would hope that there is communication to Mika that more is expected out of a player that is a part of the leadership group and centering "the first" line.

We'll have more options when Chytil comes back.

Beyond that, Zibanejad isn't working with either "top six" LW and they need to realize that and act accordingly.

With Chytil back, you can make a top nine and make things make more sense.

The logic is he makes Kreider worthless 5v5 and Kreider looks good again with other guys. You're getting a very positive player for nothing. I think a lot of guys can be a net zero with Zibanejad.

As for Mika he seems to manifest points despite not deserving them and he can do that on a 3rd line.

Anaheim gets
Kakko Jones a first and a third

NYR gets

Vatrano 50% retained life of deal
Henrique 50 % retained

TODAY

Pull the bandaid off with kakko he’s not part of the plan here let’s be honest. Rfa this summer. Move on.

by the way did you see how good Gus Fox looked together? Again I’ll say can you imagine Fox with a legit top 4 D partner?
This is worse than Amonte and Weight trades combined.

Ottawa gets

Othmann and Lindgren

NYR Gets

Chychrun and a 3rd in 2024
Put Sykora instead of Othmann and let them keep the f***ing 3rd

Yeah, why would the Rangers possibly need a dman who could move the puck

This is a little complicated but here goes:

To NYR:
Tyler Bertuzzi @ $2.75m cap hit ($2.75m retained)
Ryan Reaves @ $1.35m cap hit

To TOR:
Matthew Robertson
Barclay Goodrow @ $2.6416m ($1.0m retained)

Toronto viewpoint:
- They have $6.85m tied up in Bertuzzi and Reaves right now. Bertuzzi's contract is a 1 year deal, Reaves has 2 more years.
- For this year they take on $2.6416m + $2.75m retained = $5.3916m so they create cap space with this move and they get a guy who can slot in their bottom-6 with Cup experience while jettisoning Reaves.

Rangers viewpoint:
- The add ~$0.45m between the additional Bertuzzi cap hit and waiving Reaves. This can be fit closer to the deadline.
- They retain cap from the Goodrow trade which will equate to a $1m dead cap hit but Goodrow is overpaid to begin with.
- They add Reaves who can and should be waived. I wouldn't actually make him report to the AHL but I would waive him to save $$ on the cap.
- They add a top-9 RW who should supply more of what they need. Someone who can get to the front of the net. If he works, I'd consider a modest extension.
God no
Other than tuffness, not sure Good for Bert is a win.
And HELL NO on reaves for young G

tell Drury to capituate to bern and play Robertson, period

Can we please stop trying to bring Vatrano back?

He isn't what this team needs.
I wouldn't say that
There are worse moves we could make than bring in a legit sharpshooter w/sufficient speed

But that said, ZERO reason for Ana, who needs Ws, to give him away cheap.

Since we need our picks [unless for specific youth = foundation piece], and we already shot our wad on these stupid, effin, mindless rentals of recent years, the answer, to quote John belushi, is
nnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I think the idea of Byram is better than what he’s shown in his nhl career. His results on a good team have been bad. I would look in another direction.
Byram, despite the concussions, I would consider gambling on dep on price, but no way is he coming -- forget cheap -- affordable.
So no b'c it is moot

I get the feeling Mika and Cuylle could really work. Whether that's with Wheeler, Kakko, or whomever else I dont know.

Good forechecking generating turnovers could translate into a lot more Zibanejad even strength goals. Building from his own zone isn't really his specialty.

I am not reading much into COL GM being at the last two games. I never say never and we’ll see, but COL is also playing both the Kings and NYR upcoming in their next 5. Yes I know the pro scout normally handles that but sometimes the GMs do go. For the Ducks game, i would think COL is looking at the Ducks roster and not the Rangers.

My deadline wish would be Gourde and Tarasenko.

But i dont see Gourde happening.

So then Henrique and Tarasenko.

Fall back options could be Bertuzzi, Duclair, etc. Lindholm is another but he is going to be belle of the ball at the deadline, not worth the bidding war. And yes I have even Kane as a potential guy on the list come late February.

I think it remains to be seen who is going to be selling. So much can change over the next month. PIT could have Guentzel out there, not that we would be the team acquiring but still.

What we do know is we need to upgrade adding at least 2 guys to displace Brodzinski/Bonino/Pitlick/Goodrow even with Chytil coming back. I dont trust Chytil staying healthy and we certainly cannot be in this situation come playoff time. Ideally they move Goodrow but I have my doubts there. He has been looking quicker since he lost the face shield & the intangibles plus the personality he plays with do matter come playoff time — we do not have enough of that as is. But we also know the cap hit is a burden. We shall see.

GMs never do this.

The other thing to note is that it's entirely possible that he was scouting out potential options on the Kings and Ducks - The Rangers just happened to play them both on B2B nights.
