Actually a Kakko + Goodrow for Girard deal would make some sense both cap wise and need wise. The Avs could conceivably buyout Goodrow this off-season and save on the cap for next year if desired. Kakko knows Lehkonen and Rantanen and they already have a track record of building up a bigger winger who took some time in Nishuskin. That would make some sense...

Girard sucks. He's pacing 30 points and can't defend to save his life and needs wooden blocks in his skates just to say he's 5 foot 9. People clamoring for him now will be using expletives on him in a matter of no time. I actually have no idea why McFarland is watching us.. WTF do we have to offer that we can afford to part with?

I wonder who Nichuskin partied with after hours ......Drouin ? Maybe they are talking on Wheeler or Goodrow ???? ...could be almost anybody not named Makar-Georgiev-McKinnon LOL.

Anaheim gets
Kakko Jones a first and a third

NYR gets

Vatrano 50% retained life of deal
Henrique 50 % retained

TODAY

Pull the bandaid off with kakko he’s not part of the plan here let’s be honest. Rfa this summer. Move on.

by the way did you see how good Gus Fox looked together? Again I’ll say can you imagine Fox with a legit top 4 D partner?
no

Tarasenko and Henrique, come on down. I think Tank would jump to get some revenge from last year. Henrique feels like a natural fit at the TDL.

The D is really odd. Gus has been a great find. Schneider has been bad. I think they flip Z Jones for a stay at home type better suited for the playoffs.

Girard needs a change of scenery but that contract is a distressed asset. The only deal that would work is if Goodrow is included. If that means Kakko or Lindgren going to the Avs, so be it.

People need to face the facts with Kakko. Lafreniere has made a jump. Cuylle plays better than him with worse linemates. If we can upgrade a position of need (defensive puck mover) and shed Goodrow you do it
face facts:
Kakko PROVEN to work on kid line
At this pt he needs complementary linemates
stop giving away selling at a discount
Cuylle - Chytil[Zegras] - KK
will work

This is a little complicated but here goes:

To NYR:
Tyler Bertuzzi @ $2.75m cap hit ($2.75m retained)
Ryan Reaves @ $1.35m cap hit

To TOR:
Matthew Robertson
Barclay Goodrow @ $2.6416m ($1.0m retained)

Toronto viewpoint:
- They have $6.85m tied up in Bertuzzi and Reaves right now. Bertuzzi's contract is a 1 year deal, Reaves has 2 more years.
- For this year they take on $2.6416m + $2.75m retained = $5.3916m so they create cap space with this move and they get a guy who can slot in their bottom-6 with Cup experience while jettisoning Reaves.

Rangers viewpoint:
- The add ~$0.45m between the additional Bertuzzi cap hit and waiving Reaves. This can be fit closer to the deadline.
- They retain cap from the Goodrow trade which will equate to a $1m dead cap hit but Goodrow is overpaid to begin with.
- They add Reaves who can and should be waived. I wouldn't actually make him report to the AHL but I would waive him to save $$ on the cap.
- They add a top-9 RW who should supply more of what they need. Someone who can get to the front of the net. If he works, I'd consider a modest extension.

He’s probably watching Kakko. Kakko and Rantanen are very close and he probably thinks he can buy low. Avs need forwards too.

I am a bit confused about why Toronto is trading Bertuzzi for a worse bottom 6 player and adding on a long term bad contract to do so. Robertson is basically nothing at this point. Reaves doesn't really matter he can be sent down and have a cap hit of 300k. I don't imagine they would be interested in signing Goodrow for 3-7.9 as a FA so why would they trade to do it?

Rangers are in dire need of a top 6 RW and another defensive option.

Miller cannot be trusted consistently to not have wild swings between G1-7 of a series in playoffs under his current playing state.

Enough of the exp GF, Kredier-Mika are supposed to be our top offensive guys and need a RW who unlocks that with them. Cuylle-Chytil/X-Kakko can be a solid new look on the kid line. It's true that the best defense is good offense and that ine has potential to create good zone time with Cuylles forechecking, Kakkos stickwork and Chytils game (if he's back and we don't need to acquire a 3C.

We should likely get C insurance anyways with Chytils health, can't trust his longevity, and Goodrow/Bonino cannot be next man up.

Kreids-Mika-Tarasenko/Duclair/Vatrano/X
Panarin-Troch-Laf
Cuylle-Chytil/Henrique/Monahan/X-Kakko
Vesey-Bonino/Goodrow-Pitlick/X

Realistically we could also use another depth option for 4L.

Think if we go all in on someone I'd like to see Lindholm from Calgary. Slot him on wing with Mika and Kreider if Chytil is fine, if he's not you run Mika-Troch-Lindholm down middle which would create alot of issues for opponents. He would require more assets, but also his cap hit is low which could be beneficial in terms of leaving another addition open. Since Conroy already said he won't allow what happened with Goodrow to happen with Lindholm/Hanifin, the cost may be somewhat reduced but then still he will have plenty of suitors.

I guess I was trying to find a way for them to trade Bertuzzi who has been a disaster for them in general. He hasn't fit in and he has a NMC so their trade options will be limited if they want to move him and I thought that moving Reaves may be beneficial for them in general. By not retaining on Reaves, they leave their retention slots open and future cap implications are negligible while adding a bottom-6er like Goodrow who, at $2.6m isn't that overpaid if he gets back to his normal year, which I'm confident he will if he can play with good players on the wing and not be sipping his meals through a straw.

Well his results have been really good for them.

53.5 CF%
59.6 GF%
57.6 xG%

I know he's got moved down to the third line and the percetion is that he hasn't been good but the results certainly don't say that. His individual scoring is a bit down but it's largely just a function of not being involved in as many goals while on the ice as he normally is. That may be to be expected being a complementary piece on a Nylander/Marner line than in the past where he was more of a focal point though.

I think lots of teams would try to buy low on Kakko. Col would have a hard time making a hockey trade that's not Girard and I think the Rangers correctly would not trade Kakko for useless futures.

You'd need a 3rd team.

I like Henrique because he'd give the team what they had with Andrew Copp, and that worked out pretty well. Middle six swiss army knife guy who can PP2 and PK.

I like Tarasenko because he's a finisher, familiar with the org and plays a heavier game. I maintain that he was the most hurt by Kane coming in last year. He was a perfect fit until they reworked the roster.

I like Lindholm for most of the same reasons as Henrique, but hes a clear top line/top 6 guy and the upside is higher. A Hanifin/Lindholm package would be costly but worthwhile imo. Especially if the intention is to re-sign Hanifin. Im more comfortable trading guys off the roster than picks or prospects in that type of move.

I HATE that they are all rentals.

Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland at his third straight Rangers game in person.

Kind of weird, wouldn’t think we are trading partners and don’t think he world be opposition scouting you for a game in 2 weeks’ time. There’s many other scouts for that.
Agree, our needs are there needs.
Swapping talent? Chance of scenery?
There is an current interview with the Colorado G.M. where he did say he needed a backup for Georgiev. On track to start 68 games and they don’t want him burned out for the playoffs.

i wonder if we would've won the Devils series last year if we would've just kept Vesey with Panarin and called up Cuylle instead of trading for Kane.

Nah, they couldn't get up ice because they had no support in their breakouts. Coaching issue though at some point I'd expect the players having played hockey all their lives to maybe figure something out themselves instead of rolling with 2 on 4 dump ins and stretch passes that brutally failed.
