In every other year, I would agree with you. But look at the league as it stands, basically there are no "top contenders" unlike in many previous years. It's basically the top 12 teams of the league, all have their faults, and all could go on a run.

Once again, look outside of our bubble. The other teams are not that good either.

We’re not a threat to anyone with Igor playing league average.

Would the Leafs consider trading Reaves back here? He has two more years but his contract is cheap enough that he can be sent to the AHL for a minimal hit if need be next year or the year after. We could really use his leadership in the room and we need someone to protect the players while on the ice. Just the other day Lindgren was forced to defend himself from Dowd after a clean hit. Not so sure Dowd takes that liberty if he knows Reaves is lurking on the bench.
This is a parody post right right ?!

People laugh but he’s a big part of the magic that was that ECF run. I remember that game 1 against Pittsburgh he was flying and hitting everything that moved right from the first shift, he set the tone for the playoffs. Our team has no swagger

I was once like you, confident and optimistic about this team. But the roster isn’t good enough without major deadlines moves (like the last 2 years). That’s before we even talk about the intangible problems that have been a constant with this core through 3 coaches

It all depends if they get on a roll

Igor is one of the best goalies in the world if he’s on so obviously that’s key
Fox is a Norris D
Panarin is top 5 in pts
Zib is a number 1 C
Kreider , Trotchek are solid
Need Laf , Kakko , Chytil to strep up obviously
They will add 2F at the deadline
D has depth in top 6

Drury is going to pull a shocker, well before the trade deadline. Pretty confident to say that. I think this team is on the border of having something special but definitely needs a little bit of a shake up.

Agreed they need to add but people here are acting like they are doomed regardless lol

They are in a funk and will come out of it that’s all

We are half way through a long season. I kinda like that they are not trying to be the Boston of last year and burn themselves out during the regular season, but yeah it's hard to watch when they go at 60% on top of the much talked about roster balance issues. The post-season is what counts this year and it's obvious that the team led by the gaggle of A's are not going 100% every game right now.

Listen, this is the end. Three coaches. It was Quinn, it was Gallant, hell, let's remember Quinn was supposed to be thing 1 to molding this club into a more grittier club. Gallant was doing a solid job during the first year and with Reaves there. It rubbed off. Deep run, multiple series comebacks. They had the adversity and the no quit. Last year was alarming. No show in game 7? Really? Messier would've probably grabbed some of the top guys by the throat and put them through the locker. Unacceptable. They have one more run in them (Vince Carter meme). If they are out in round one or two, look for some sort of shakeup.

On the IR since mid December. I'd do it if Toronto retains half. Shouldn't cost much.

Braanstrom can play both sides
Would be a good depth D and Ottawa needs new faces. But is Jones about equal ?

Henrique at 50 off makes sense for a depth pickup

Zib (age 30, $8.5 AAV) and Miller (age 23, $3.87 AAV) for Eriksson Ek (age 26, $5.25 AAV) and Brodin (age 30, $6.0 AAV).

Reunites Zib with Zucc and sends Miller back home. Opens up a PP1 spot for Laf on the right. Move Bread to Mika’s spot on the left. Who says no?

Still think our targeted rental for the deadline will be Elias Lindholm. 2 way center to play the 3rd line with Chytil out. If Chytil comes back he plays the wing. Probably be too expensive though and it's of course just a rental as we won't be able to re-sign him.

Ryan Reaves? Spare me. Up the hot take meter. Knoblauch rights the ship in Edmonton, while we’re floundering under the old fossil Laviolette. Imagine seeing the last 5 years of Nashville and Washington hockey and thinking we need this guy? You know what to do Drury.

Let's be real, Edmonton's ship was not righted by Knoblauch imposing some amazing tactics. It was righted by Stuart Skinner actually starting to catch some pucks, and Connor McDavid started doing McDavid things. Woodcroft was a pretty good coach, one of the best win% in Edmonton history.

If Shesty would be on his Vezina level, or even slightly below that, we wouldn't be having these type of discussions at all.

There won't be a shake up because all these guys were handed get out jail free, no accountability clauses in their contracts (NMC, NTC) and they are un-movable. That's the biggest problem.

Kreider's NMC becomes a modified NTC on July 1. He can be moved, and you can best believe teams will want him. Zib has a NMC, so that will be tougher to move, I agree, but if a guy knows he isn't wanted, he will waive for someplace.
