IMO Kreider is part of the solution and not part of the problem.

The biggest problems on this team in no particular order are Igor, the defense not named Fox, Gus, or Schneider, the lack of center depth, our 1C playing like a 2C/powerplay specialist, and Barclay Goodrow's contract.

Kreider gives us something few players in the league do, is still really good at it, and it's also a skill that tends to age better than if he was still playing the speed game.

I don't think any of this is wrong, but thats exactly why he'd be the easiest to move.

What I don't like is that his game is becoming more uni dimensional. Now alot of that may be because of who he's playing with but that isn't really an excuse either, he can be a factor in so many areas but he just chooses not to (and I know it's a choice, because there are games where he decides to do these things and is very effective.)

I get the apprehension as he scores goals which is hard to do in this league and he's scored a bunch in the the playoffs which is even harder to do, but that isn't really going to matter if the rest of the team doesn't carry their weight.

Plus if you look at the other guys -

Trouba probably could be moved, but I'm not sure that they would do it.
Panarin would be a tough move and he's got full no trade
Zibanejad can't be moved.
Fox shouldn't be moved
Goodrow should be fired into the sun, but honestly that probably isn't enough.

If Mess woukd of put his ego aside and took a entry level spot, maybe in Hartford, he prob could of earned it. He wanted the prime real estate from day 1.
Along those lines, living here in Central CT, I recently met someone who does ESPN NHL production. Unsolicited he mentioned Mess was a huge primadonna on set. I asked if he was referring to PK & he said, no, the older bald dude.

These guys don't play Lav's style or Gallant's style...they are playing Ryan Strome's style, which he made perfectly clear when he told the press the coaches need to trust the players to make the right decisions. This core refuses to listen to coaching & even when Lavi tried to change the system, at the first sign of adversity they immediately revert back to the pond hockey they are just way too comfortable playing.
Because if they don't, they may get boo boos in the corners.

Lol, PK and him. Everytime I watch them together I half expect an elbow or a skewfoot on set.

But behind the cameras, true egos never dull

It was a really strange interaction. The guy had an ESPN NHL track jacket on, but he literally knew nothing about hockey nor did he know the hosts by name. To him it's just a job. Anyway, I was asking about PK being an ass on set, genuinely curious if it's all an act, but he immediately said no. Then he volunteered on his own that the "older bald dude" sucks to work with & is always barking orders or complaining if he doesn't have everything he wants right away. I was taken aback but not shocked.

Kreider and Trouba have their no trade clauses drop to partials this offseason AKA they can be moved to a place not on their list with out their permission.

Kreider is who I was referring to BTW. I don't think he's the guy whose most deserving to be moved (far from it, even if he drives me nuts he's still a bargain at his current deal) but he's the easiest to move. We've gotten to the point where we will know whether or not we can really move forward with this core and if it blows up again then the answer is obviously no.
If they fail again this season to make a deep run which I think is the most likely outcome, there has to be changes. Unfortunately we are stuck with Zibanejad which I was worried about but no one should be untouchable except for Fox. I’d prefer to keep certain guys but even then I am tired of the makeup of this team. It’s been the same shit for years.

When your #1 center is afraid of contact and attacking the middle of the ice, and isn’t sufficiently skilled like Panarin to make up for it this is what happens. I don’t give a shit about the PP you can’t win with this guy as your top guy at the most important position.

Zibanejad isn't paid like an elite 1C though. Look at what Nylander just got and imagine what Matthews will be getting.

I think some of the frustration with Zibanejad is reasonable but lets also call out the fact that the way he plays could EASILY be supported better via different linemates. Kreider is also someone who doesn't attack the middle the ice unless its around the crease.

I think that if they could find a couple of water bug type guys who can use speed and are not afraid to attack the middle of the ice it would open up space and room for Zibanejad to do his thing. Honestly, someone like Trochek on the wing would be perfect.

I swear if it weren’t for his backstory people wouldn’t give the guy so much leeway. He has been bad for a couple years now, and imo is one of the most overrated players in the NHL. He is a symptom of everything wrong with our team, he tries to slow down the fastest sport there is. Swap Fox with Q Hughes for instance and we’d be a far far far better team
what’s your point? We’d also be a better team if we swapped McDavid for Zibanejad but that’s not happening either

He’s still one of the best defensemen in the league irregardless of his speed

Man what a leap he took with that one. He has been brutal.

Same day he talks about stepping away to focus on his mental health he posts an instagram showing all his pregame fits and activities with his IG model girlfriend. By all means live your life but don’t act like everyone can’t see right through it. Too much focus away from hockey for these guys

Agreed. Fabio reminds me of a Kessel or Hossa in their primes. Both great players in their own right but they’re complimentary players on cup winning teams. Problem is Fabio is supposed to be our 1c and they’re not winning a cup with him as the top c

Drury is going to pull a shocker, well before the trade deadline. Pretty confident to say that. I think this team is on the border of having something special but definitely needs a little bit of a shake up.

Agree on Kreider, however if it's clear after this season that the core isn't good enough, there's no point in keeping him at 33. Cash in the value. I'm operating under the assumption that 1) the team bows out easily again, and 2) Panarin and Zibanejad are untradeable due to clauses and we can't significantly change the core anyway. If #2 is not true, maybe the roster could be reconfigured in a jiff and you keep Kreider, but I'm not sure. Maybe you do both things. Trade one of those 2 guys and get a haul for Kreider. Nothing should be off the table completely, but gotta see where the team is at after the season and the willingness of players to waive clauses.

I’m not ready to hard launch but I’m working up the courage to say Lindgren has been our best dman this year. Wish me luck.

Exactly. Imagine the potential drama of an ugly breakup.

Ron Duguay, Don Murdoch vibes in someway too. And they are my vibes only, not an accusation or fact.

After what happened last season and continuing into this season:

*Puts on body armor*

Fox is the valuable trade chip
They're not ready for this and won't be for a few years, but there's something to be said about wondering the efficacy of a guy lacking speed, acceleration, strength, and the ability to clear the front of the net AND being the best player on a championship team.

I struggle to think of a comp. Lidstrom, but Lidstrom was straight better at ~everything. I dunno if a very rich man's Larry Murphy gets it done. Maybe, but maybe not.
