We replaced him with the most overrated 40 point scorer in Ranger history, Kaapo Kakko! I kid i kid, but points schmoints.
It's amazing how different the discourse is among fans of the NBA and MLB, other sports that have significant production metrics, because in those sports you don't periodically stop for 2 minutes and play a different sport.

If you took Fast's 30 even strength points and compared his overall game to Zibanejad's and his 50 even strength (which is very solid 5v5 production, don't get me wrong) and there was nothing else, I wonder how the two players would be looked it.

It makes perfect sense to me but they won't reduce his role because they already see Zibanejad as an all-situations 1C. Mostly because he was when we were bad and coached by David Quinn. He proceeded to be absolutely terrible at defense in that role and shoot 20%.

Mika Zibanejad graduated valedictorian from the Glass-Backlund University of Always Impressing Coaches

1) Just exist in very defensive usage. You don't have to be good at it. (feat. Professor Bonino)

2) Have a shooting bender at the end of the year and have it be the last thing people remember.

I look at these charts (obviously this one is from a few years ago) and my first thought is what effect does Mika passing out of 3-5 slot area chances a game do for his offensive and defensive analytics? Because you go from the possibility at a high or mid danger scoring chance to nothing and a potential chance against going the other way in a lot of cases. If he just played straightforward hockey instead of constantly being in his own head, or looking for the highlight reel pass all these guys love so much, his underlying numbers might actually matchup with his reputation (and contract, which looks worse by the hour).

Venting aside I think its time for the new Dad to shave his head like Panarin

For a guy who, when he just shoots, it goes in a lot, he should probably do that more.

I think he psychs himself out a bit with the powerplay and how often he misses the net but again, that's basically a different sport, and standing there taking one timers is not the same as taking an open wrister in the slot.

Its definitely an aspect of it. He really hasnt been effective in the Ovechkin spot for a long while now. Is he too stubborn to go to the bumper where he belongs. Fox and Panarin can handle the points because when the criss cross they are very effective. and Kreider AND Trocheck in position for rebounds and deflections is tough for a goalie to defend. Mika one timers that smash the glass and shot passes that need to evade 3 sticks for a tap in arent scaring teams that commit on the PK. Could tell in the game Sunday that Washington wasnt worried about Mika's side of the ice.

It's really not that good. Holy shit. I don't get the absolute love affair with this line.

It's a top line, sure. It's any other team's top line. They're probably middle of the pack in the league in terms of top lines. "Best line in decades." Give me a break.

I guess when a fanbase is this starved for skill, effective 5v5 play, and lines with no bad players on it, this normal ass line looks like something from Team Canada.

Like, don't get me wrong, they're a good line. Nobody is saying they're a bad line. But people on here treat that line like Catholics treat the cross.

For lines with minimum 225 minutes together

- 2nd in the league in xGoals
- 5th in the league xGoals per 60
- 1st in the league in shot attempts with a massive 58 shot attempt lead

yardbarker had this

while clearly saying Chych, implying not Sand, on the table, it is reluctant to deal a quality add, but Sens are so effed up w/cap etc they have to consider drastic steps back moves now to have even just maneuverability to go ahead

translation: bern is possibly right, depending on variables
IF enuf high end prospects futures to OTT now, Sandy can be had, b'c too much profit to ignore.
Also, Chych can slide and play RD. Keeping him and moving an LD might be easier to replace, even if replacement will be a downgrade [offset by quality F adds]
Aaaaaaand with Trouba on 4th line RW like YOU suggested, we are good to go if a Dman gets injured!

Literally nobody said they weren't a good line. It's the attitude that the world would end if maybe we tried Trocheck somewhere else at some point.

"Best line in decades" was an absurd claim. It's not the best Rangers line with Panarin on it.

Even if he was 22, the type of player he is shouldn't be playing the role he's in. He's a #4 defenseman at best.

If the pair were elite and it's saving you money, improving depth elsewhere, then sure. They haven't been since 2022. I would argue they've been more bad than good since the short year Fox won the Norris.

I don't think we need Chris Pronger or Brian Leetch to partner with Fox by any means, but he needs a partner that can move the puck at this level.
I know you despise Miller/Trouba, but Lindgren is our #4 defenseman right now. He plays #4 minutes. He's about 5 minutes a night at ES behind that other pair. Fox makes up for the other minutes by playing 1:30 on each PP. Maybe the better plan is to upgrade the top pair guys. Miller's fantastic offensive upside is not helping us when he plays pee wee hockey in his own end. He's been a pro too long to keep saying he's new to defense. And please don't say to put Miller with Fox. My head would explode. That's not the answer. Lindgren being our #4 isn't our biggest problem when the top pair is a disaster.

I'm fine with moving Lindgren, and shooting Goody to another dimension, but my god, talk about making a soft team already, into the biggest vat of goo you could possibly eyeball

If Ottawa wants to make trades to shake things up, they should start with their overpaid captain who's good at scoring even strength goals and...let me see here...uh, nothing else.

Don't remind me that Adam Fox is on our second pair, I'm still on probation from the last coach I sent poisoned cannolis to.

You're not wrong. The...top pair (I wanna jump off a building) also needs to be upgraded. Miller is not the half that needs to be upgraded.

Neither of those guys do anything that make us less soft though. Lindgren is a soft target for other teams big hitters and Goodrow skates like his ankle is still broken from 2 years ago.

That sounds like something we could use. Where do I sign up?

Here you are

Goodrow + Jones to Chicago for the Rangers 4th in 2025
Lindgren for Pinto
Othmann and Edstrom make the team out of camp next year
The Rangers sign one of Forbort, Cole, Edmundson for ~$2.25m on 1-2 year deals
They also re-sign Gustafsson to a 2 year deal and anchor him with Schneider which has been an effective pairing.

I don’t think removing Lindgren really makes anyone less “tough.”

Hes basically a f***ing piñata now.
We're once again completely misconceptualizing "toughness" if that's a thing you think we even need.

We don't more guys that get hit with pucks and bodies every two seconds and we don't need more....what does Goodrow do???

We need to be better at forechecking and a lot better at managing the puck. People would like the way we played if we were better at those two things.

And if you still want somebody who does other stuff after the whistle or whatever, uh, I don't know, don't.

Didn't we lose this game with Dowd scoring?

Glad we set the tone.

I dont care about open ice hits. I care that we have other players constantly winning the battles below the goal line and in front of our net. The opponent knows they can get there easily.
