People forget that part of why buch was traded was Kakko. The idea of paying buch and kind of blocking more opportunities for Kakko longer term was at play. They felt that Kakko would be able to come in and grab a significant role, and if buch were signed long term he would block opportunities. Kakko just never grabbed hold of those opportunities. 20/20, but obviously wish we got more in the deal. People forget that before Subban "subban'ed" blais he was becoming an impact player her with his physicality and his offense starting to show.
It's why I'm generally a believer that young players need to earn and prove it before trading proven players. Granted, once Kakko was drafted at #2 and Laf at #1 the following year (both being wingers as well), Buch was a casualty.

just look at the sabers, they handed the kids the team and the stumbled, same in ottawa. internal competition is so important

Anyone care to give a read on 21 year old, former high 2nd round L.A. RW Arthur Kaliyev?
Watching Frank Seravalli’s show and it was mentioned that Rob Blake doesn’t want to waive him and lose him for nothing.
He hasn’t fit in with the Kings. RFA on an expiring contract making $895K.
Blake and Drury do have a friendship.
Really would like this move for NYR. Supposedly Kings wants a gritty guy who can play in the bottom 6 right now. Unfortunately I don't think NYR can do anything like that unless LA wants Goodrow lol. They are weak on LD prospects so maybe something around Jones or Robertson could work?

The Sens locking up their shitty core for a billion years never ceases to be a source of joy for me.

Thomas Chabot and Josh Norris getting $8M each till the end of time.

Looks like a RW that scores 40+ pts a year, and maybe a depth Dman is what we should expect

Roslovic for a 4th or so is a decent fall back option

I do Robertson. Maybe also squeeze a late round pick from LA.
Blake might take it. If he tries to send him down he will get claimed. Most likely by a west coast team.

People were massively whining to start the year about Mika/Trocheck blocking the force that was Filip Chytil, if Buch was here imagine the excuses for Kakko's meek manner and Kravtsov's general sucking.

If those two held up their end of the bargain, nobody cares. Pointing the finger at everyone except the guys whose skates touch the ice.

I'd have traded Buch too. I've said this lots of times, Blais +2nd was a failure of league GMs to get Buch for 75 cents on the dollar. The league knew he was on the block for months.

chabot is a guy that i do wonder if nyr might look at this summer. can just see the team looking at hanafin or chabot as a player to bring in here if they make the money work.

Wow how stupid can players be

sorry, vid is grainy where i am right now, what does it show?

It's proven for 28 years it's not a good market. It's a fair weather fan base that couldn't be more indifferent toward them. Bad arena attendance is one thing, but they average less than 1200 viewers a game for their TV ratings...in a market of 5 million, that's deplorable. Yes that number is correct...1200 viewers.

The posters here in Forum 40 are a loyal bunch, but the teams' biggest problem is there isn't enough of them. Nobody gives a shit about hockey there. I don't see the point in hanging on anymore.
I’d argue that it can be an excellent hockey town. When hockey first came to the Valley, the minor league Roadrunners outdrew the NBA. In 2012 when the Coyotes last had a competitive team, they sold out their last eight regular season and four playoff games. The Coyotes have been so bad for so long it is impossible to build a fan base. A big part of the problem in Glendale is that the various ownership groups never wanted to embrace the area and the perfectly fine arena. I could tell you stories including how I sat down with various management through the years (I am a retired marketing executive) and showed them plans on how they could build their business. All they could talk about was moving. Right now the west side of Phoenix is booming.

You don’t see the plate with powder and him smoking it.

Looking around at teams that will likely be buyers at the deadline to try and see what types of prices this market will drive.

3 of the Playoff teams already Moved their 1st round picks in the 2024 draft.
Bruins <-- Don't have their 2024 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
Panthers <-- Don't have 1st, 2nd in the draft.
Lightning <-- Don't have their 1st and 2nd in the draft, in addition to also moving their 1st in 2025.

With that said strictly for the Rental player market at Forward... How does that effect the values of...

Guentzel
Henrique
Eberle
Tarasenko
Duclair
Johnson
Wennberg
Mantha
Pacioretty
Olofsson
Okposo
Roslovic
Labanc

Last year 10 teams traded their 1st rounder.
2022 14 Teams traded their 1st rounder.
2021 12 Teams traded their first rounder.

So on average based over the last 3 years 12 Teams moved their 1st. Without diving in too deep, im assuming a good amount of the picks traded were not strictly for expiring UFA's.

I would imaging Guentzel, Henrique and Eberle could all get 1st round picks if moved. If you were to factor the expiring Dmen like Hannafin, Tanev. And then the players with term added like Buchnevich, Markstrom, Laughton, Chychrun.

I could see some of the players specifically the rentals coming down some in the value. Might be the type of deadline where Drury waits to see what chips fall first and then try to gobble up the discounted players.

Chabot's been overslotted due to lack of talent his whole career and played absurd minutes but he's the same guy now he was at the end of his ELC.

Doesn't PK at all. Trouba-esque takeaway/giveaway ratio his entire career. Misses significant time every year.

They paid him $8M straight out of his ELC with no arbitration rights. Wouldn't get $8M now on the open market at 27. They're just dumb.

Phoenix is a fair weather town as most west coast cities are. All of their teams have attendance issues if they aren't not only winning, but legit contenders. When they went to the CFs in 2012, they were selling out. Which is why I never understood the East Valley vs West Valley argument. Fans there act like they're the only fanbase that has to travel to get to the arena.

Regardless, the Coyotes brand just may be too toxic at this point. They've burned so many bridges & lingered in limbo for the better part of 20 years by now. Even if this new arena gets built, I still don't see all their issues magically disappearing.

Well spoken!

Most people don’t realize that the Coyotes Arena in Glendale was right next door to State Farm Stadium where the Cardinals draw good crowds. The surrounding roads are excellent. Yes traffic could be tough during the week but the Coyotes always played more than half their schedule on the weekends.

I’d take a flyer on Kaliyev. NY area kid
