My only concern is at 2.4 ish at 50 off is it worth the cap space they have left ?

We've got about 4.4 mil in LTIR cap space now that Wheeler has been put on LTIR. That includes 22 healthy bodies (13 forwards, 7 dmen, 2 goalies).

If we trade for Olofsson @ 50%, Rempe probably goes back down, so the net effect would be 2.375 mil - 820k = 1.555 mil.

We'd still have about 2.8 mil to work with, plus the potential cap savings from sending down another player (probably Belzile, cap hit 775k).

They will have plenty of cap space to make this type of move. They should have around $6m

This

And these details is why it would make sense to find someone who is on the outs with their current team a bit and has a higher cap hit to try to get a motivated piece that fits. The cost will be very low in that case

The Panthers made Vatrano a healthy scratch 11 times before the trade to the Rangers. Olofsson can't get into the lineup in Buffalo. Olofsson had 48 goals the previous two seasons. Very similar players. Skate and shoot.

Buy low. Put Olofsson on RW with Mika and Kreider. Just shoot the puck.
Who going to get him the puck? And as sa16 has noted he's not a volume shooter at 5v5.

prefer keep, play Rempe

Kakko happy and smiling.

I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside. Give them a sense of pride.

He's still the most awkward human professional athlete.

Attempting to replace Bonino and Pitlick with two rookies mid-season is an underrated move in terms of its gutsiness and I feel like no one is crediting Drury/Lav with willingness to go outside of the box to seek a solution before any significant deadline deals.

Meanwhile the last couple years Hartford has returned to a competent developmental program for the first time since the late 2000's.

Any proper rumors?

Last proper rumor was a couple weeks ago that teams were calling about Kakko. Doubt the Rangers were willing to move him absent a major overpay then, doubly so now that Wheeler is done for the season.

You'll get no argument from me.

But anyone who claims they saw Kreider becoming a 35-40 goal man in his late 20's early 30's should be investigated either on on suspicion of obfuscating their clairvoyant capabilities, or rather for being disingenuous
Even prior to becoming an official 30 goal scorer Kreider’s been on 30+ goal and accelerating pace a few seasons in the row. 50 goals were the only surprising outcome.

He got plenty of credit for waiving Bonino. I think he and Pitlick were the lowest hanging fruit but I don't know that they would have done this a year ago so yeah, credit where its due.

If he really wants to show guts, he'll move/replace some of the bigger names/contracts on the roster.

Definitely! Also giving credit to Gorton for his draft strategy in going after these guys in late rounds.

Bet it’s coming depending on the way team fares in playoffs.

It may, but real balls would be shown in replacing those guy before the playoffs begin.

We have clear pain points on this team (and one of the 3 big ones has been playing better so if that continues, it's one less thing to worry about.)

When you say big names it includes Kreider and Trouba and we both know there’s zero chance either is moved.
Smaller names in Lindgren and Goodrow are also approaching that: Lindgren type is not moved at TDL even if using your terms Drury has balls to acquire someone to play with Fox and Goodrow’s contract length requires other team’s decision identity a need for this type of player and commit to it financially. What other big names are there?

All this points out to offseason rather than TDL.

Just realized fox would be on pace for 80 points this season, shame he got injured and missed a bunch of games.

Also keep in mind that he surely came back in the form that was far from what we’d call “mid-season” in addition to just missed games due to injury itself.

Lindgren and Goodrow are the ones I was referring to.

There is no reason they cannot trade Lindgren and upgrade there. His type this year has been worst D on the team who sucks at offense and defense. You can also trade for another 4th liner and just not play Goodrow. He can continue to exist on the roster for the time being.

Those are moves that aren't that hard to do.

With Wheeler’s injury Goodrow is now 10/11 forward with Edstrom. Addressing 3C will make it 11/12. Trades cost assets. Is it going to forth it to worth it to spend on what would be barely incremental improvement at 4W to push Goodrow out of lineup? If there were three issues to deal with at TDL this 4W would be the lowest priority

Yes because it wouldn’t be insignificant.

Agree that he is down on the totem pole of areas to hit, but it shouldn’t be ignored.

Ignored - no, but after spending assets on the first two, will it be worth to spend some more on this? IMO no.
