Poor Wheeler. Say what you will about his play (father time catching up to him) but he wanted to be here and I always appreciate that from players.

I actually think he had found a way to become pretty effective the last couple months. Wanted to upgrade on him for the lineup but he could've been decent depth for the playoffs and a veteran presence.
100%. He was fitting in and noticeable in a good way. He was better suited to the third line i think but he was absolutely fine.

I hated the Kreider contract when it was signed, and felt he was the wrong guy to re-sign over Buch. But Kreider has definitely over-delivered thus far on it. It also was probably less money and term than he'd have gotten on the open market
Yes. I remember that signing as being a little under market value at the time. It went to the last minute, as I remember. Right before the trade deadline.

Is he? I don't have all the fancy stats, but I see he's playing a career low 10:06 per game at 5 on 5, and has a career low shooting percentage of 8.7, yet he has a respectable points/60 of 1.53. His shot attempt differential is -1.

For reference, Vesey is playing 10:32 per game 5 on 5, has an 11.8 shooting percentage, and also has a points/60 of 1.53. Vesey has a shot attempt differential of -115.

I'm not sure I'd take anything Buffalo does as proof of a player's ability, one way or the other.

Olofsson has scored 20 goals twice and 28 goals once. In the right situation, he could score some goals for us. I'd rather acquire him on the cheap and see if we can make it work, than spend heavily on a bigger name that probably won't be any better.

His CF rel is solid as well at 5v5. He seems like a good option for someone who likes to shoot

Zucker at 50 and Dermott
For
Jones and what prospect ? Can’t see AZ needing more picks

If anything AZ will trade picks for players

It’s sad that it has to take a few rookies to do that. Shows how soft passive and content the team is fine with being soft

I think it shows more what inserting a 6'8 240 lb. guy into your lineup who's been groomed to play a physical game can provide. There's not a whole lot of players like that around. The Rangers bringing in two at relatively the same time will get a lot of notice around the league especially if they both stick around and I think Edstrom will.

It's Zdeno Chara size.....and FWIW Chara in his first few seasons was an awkward skater....at least his first 4/5 years with the Islanders and not that great a fighter either. He got bulled around the ice by 6'1 Darren Langdon during the infamous Cloutier/Soderstrom brawl. Rempe is ahead of Chara in that area already.

It would be so Rongos to not go after Zegras because defense, and then throw coveted assets at Buffalo for the older inferior player... and then we all continue to complain about how this team can't generate goals when it matters.

And then NJD go ahead and trade for Zegras and he tortures us with Hughes for the next 10 years.
Zegras has 4 goals as a first line pp1 guy. He has never had more than 23. What goals do you speak of? Or are you just blinded by names?

It would be so Rangers to buy another big name player to sell jerseys to fans that want flash. We have 1 cup in nearly 100 years. The fans are part of the problem.

Tyler Pitlick is the epitome of a dime-a-dozen player

That would be interesting...

Yeah, cooked is not the right word....Pitlick simply wasn't good.
Agreed. Pitlick was never good. Ever.

Yeah, I think people forget that Vatrano fell out of favor in Florida before we acquired him on the cheap. The talent is there with Olofsson. It's just a matter of putting him in the right position to maximize it.

Not coming off of the right places though.

If Vesey can fix the Zibanejad line then it's obviously a win.
I think that line is much better with Vesey.

We got rid of Bonino. We’re better with Edstrom and possibly Rempe on the 4th. Possibly a hard forechecking line

Biggest need is fixing the defense. If they are not going to add a LHD they need to reshuffle.

Put Lindgren with Trouba and let them play with the 3rd and 4th lines. Play simple cave man hockey.

Put KAM with Fox. Give Gus/Schneids more time with the top6.

He has a great shot and talent but doesn’t have that dawg in him

I'm not sure I see how Olofsson would fit into the lineup. If he doesn't work with Kreider and Zib, then should Lavi start breaking up the Tro and Brodz lines to try to fit him in? I don't think that's a good plan.

We should probably be targeting guys that can compete with Vesey and Brodz not just for their top9 roles, but also in a 4th line role.

Which to be fair, is the majority of guys that are available; just not Olofsson.

Kreider was paid extra for his non-measurable contributions.

Before his tip-renaissance, he was known for his speed but also his tremendous screening ability. Kreider was responsible for dozens and dozens of goals for which he received no statistical reward from well placed screens of the goaltender.

He was overpaid at the time, but I would posit it was only by a half mil, not a full million. He's a 7.5 million dollar player right now.

You want to pay players for what you expect them to do, not what they have done.

Kreider's salary is perfectly in line for what he has contributed since his 1st game under this new deal.

Post signing.

20 in 50, 30+ goal pace
52 in 81
36 in 79
27 in 54 games this year, pacing for a possible 40 goal campaign.

Under 7 per?? That's slam dunk value.

IceSpice is available I've heard. I think she'd be good for Kakko.

Certainly.

All of this is 5v5.

CF%
Together - 49.11%
Fox with out Lindgren - 65.69%
Lindgren with out Fox - 43.60%

xGF%
Together - 44.57%
Fox with out Lindgren - 69.76%
Lindgren with out Fox - 41.04%

HDCF%
Together - 45.59%
Fox with out Lindgren - 70.77%
Lindgren with out Fox - 35.90%

Lindgren has never been good offensively but hes been worse there than usual and his defensive game has taken a pretty drastic step back. He's the 2nd worst in xGA/60 on the team (behind Trouba) and the worst in HDCA/60 outright amongst the regulars. his xGF rel is the worst of any D on the roster, including Zac Jones.

Mind you, he and Fox have a .944 on ice save percentage. Goaltending has been probably the only reason why there aren't more people getting on the coaches to break up that pair.

His PK numbers have gone down the tubes too.

Regardless, the disparity with and without one another is pretty f***ing drastic. This doesn't mean that Fox would rock numbers in the 70% range with anyone but he would be be way better with every other D on the roster than he is with Lindgren.

Compare this to say, Miller and Trouba. Miller has better numbers away from Trouba than vice versa and while there IS a gap, it's not a gap of of 20-30% or more in some cases.

Miller-Trouba hasn't been a great pair, but at least they're on the +side of the high danger chance share and nearly even in xGF% overall where as Lindgren-Fox is sub 45%. They draw the tougher matchups too.
Thank you for posting, it gets confusing

LOL never heard of her. :D
Some Calgary upcoming young popstar, she was the celebrity captain of team MacKinnon. Currently, her song "greedy" is #5 in Spotify world rankings. And it tells about Cole Sillinger of Columbus Blue Jackets.

ANYWAY, back to the topic in hand...
Any chance Nashville would move Ryan O'Reilly?

Take him with Trenin.
I don't see them moving him, and I don't see him wanting a move. He has a cup, so no need to go chase one. Also, a big reason he didn't re-sign in Toronto was all the media attention, he specifically wanted to go back to a more quiet market. New York is not Toronto, but still pretty big, not sure he would want that.
