I'm really curious about Scanlin. The Rangers haven't called him up once and with them not accruing cap space, now would be the time to bring him up and have the coaches get a look at him. He's probably the most steady d-man in Hartford and he's got good size. A 2-year extension would seem to indicate they still see potential here for a NHL d-man but they haven't shown that with their actions

The Coyotes have lost 7 in a row; falling further away from a playoff spot. Recent talk of their arena situation/possible relocation may be distracting them, but they aren't very talented. Odds are they'll start selling in the near future. Bjugstad has been mentioned here. Also McBain. Clayton Keller a pipe dream. Nick Schmaltz? Just curious/rambling on.

If the Rangers are happy with Brodzinski, they could look at Zucker

Rangers looking to make Scanlin their Brodzinski on defense it appears. Where does this put Jones/Robertson futures with the team?

Kreider contracts were all signed either the summer before Covid, or in Kreider's case, weeks before the Covid Shutdown. Terrible timing. Everyone knew those contracts, especially Trouba's, were an overpayment the moment they were signed. B
So in your strange mind you think paying Kreider was an overpayment? The guy has 112 goals the last 2 1/2 seasons. He kills penalties at a top rate and is a good locker room presence. That is an overpayment? On what planet? You don't think there are teams in this league that would have paid him similar dollars for this type of production? If you answer yes then the fact is its not an over payment it is what the market dictates. If you answer no then take a look around the league and under your terms 50% of all players are over paid. If you don't like the guy fine but this comment has no legs to it.

I don't see how both will be around come next year. I could see Jones replacing Gustafsson if he prices himself out. I think Robertson is traded
Very possible. It looks like Robertson will be eligible for waivers next season. I think Scanlin has 1 more year being exempt.

Maybe we can trade one or both of Robertson and Jones for dmen who are still exempt, just to give us some depth and flexibility.

IIRC they knew that the cap was going to be pretty stagnant until the players paid back the league in escrow, and it was about a 4 year plan to pay it back. I might be wrong but I think a majoriity of people thought at least 3 years the cap wouldn't raise much unless the players paid off the escrow early.
I remember hearing how a deal would be worked out, but, as I said, it's neither here nor there. My point wasn't whether Drury f***ed up or not, it was about how WE fans wouldn't think it was a defcon 4 terrible contract if the cap had kept rising. That's all.

Am I missing something with Laughton as to why people want him when he’s been terrible the last few years? 2 more years at $3M has him closer to being a cap dump than a worthy acquisition. Even at $1.5M, I think he’d be bad.
it's because he plays a heavy game and adds "sandpaper", meanwhile this team is not nearly as soft as some people make them out to be and don't realize that they're actively manifesting our 1st and/ or Kakko being shopped for some grinder plug that everyone is going to hate in a years time. That ends up being the cost when a team is supposedly desperate for "grit". We saw that during the offseason in 2021 and we'll end up witnessing it again I fear.

You just know he's the type of GM to overpay for Laughton despite his awful contract, no surprise there.

CapFriendly has both years as 2-way, with 200k and 225k minors salaries in years 1 and 2, respectively.

He has a minors salary of 100k this year, so a decent bump for him. Given how little defensive depth we have, this isn't surprising.

Robertson's ELC is ending this summer. It will be interesting to see what they do with him.
Robertson's waiver exemption expires too. Just put him a trade before March 8.

Sounds very speculative on Friedman's part. Is Laughton just having a down year? I know he has been an effective player in the past and he is only 29. I am leery for bad underlying numbers coming out of a Torts led rebuilder like Philly. My opinion: I'd rather Brodzinski unless the price is very low for no retention.

Jeff Marek said he had a discussion with someone regarding the West teams being more busy than the East teams. Opposite of last season. TB has no assets. They need two D. The Bruins traded away their first in June to rent Bertuzzi last season. The Leafs have traded away most of their assets. The Rangers don't want to trade their first round pick. Carolina may do something. The Devils may do something. The teams in the West will make moves. The Flyers may do nothing. The Flyers may end up signing their players.

Agreed, he repeatedly says "I wonder about...". Send Konecny with him and I'll think about it

This basically sounds like Friedman having no knowledge but just speculation knowing the Rangers are dead set on getting a center and that Laughton is one of the only available centers on the market with any kind of name recognition.

I'd put the chances on Friedman having any inside knowledge from the Rangers side in regards to this report at about 1%.

We could still trade for Laughton because he stinks but does some things hockey men like and he's a center, but I don't think Friedman has any inside info right now though.

Contrary to some of locals' views Drury is not stupid. Following the debacle that brought him to the top he got his marching orders and so had to sign in his first offseason:
1. Reeves who was maybe somewhat useful in his first year but now is long gone because he was absolutely ineffective,
2. Blais who he misjudged as someone who'd bring sandpaper with some skills and is gone too, and
3. Goodrow whom Drury willingly overpaid but who's now fully relegated to the 4th line and pretty likely to soon be out of the lineup altogether

On the other hand his most successful signings and trades would be Trocheck and Copp who bring skills supplemented by a certain level of sandpaper and physicality / toughness.

The point is that there's a lot of negative projections taking place on this board that ultimately don't materialize. There's no perfect GM but Drury so far is in the black overall IMO.

Mollie said on a podcast two months ago that there is a possibility of him not being offered a contract at season’s end.
He has played better lately, but the bar wasn’t very high.
