Glad to see you've seen the light but the hate was overblown on a former first rounder who is still not 23 until next September. He and Lafreniere have been the biggest long term developments for the team imo
Well, analytics can change. Ineffective players can become good, and vice versa.
The thing with Schneider is, watching his game, I just didn't see much room for improvement. Eye test, can't take it anywhere.
I still think he's always going to have defensive lapses because his positioning and the instincts thereof are below average imo, but I'm really surprised by his skill level and how well he moves the puck. He seems to have more confidence doing that this year. That's what I missed.
At the end of the day, my thing is, I don't care that much about mistakes. Somebody on your team has to play rock solid D, but it doesn't have to be everyone. I'm way more concerned with being able to move the puck 200 feet away from your own net, and he's shown that he has that at the NHL level, plus he was always a good athlete and can skate for his size.
I'm going to throw out a weird comp here:
Klein was a verrrryyyy low-key excellent puck mover with a great shot. His totals (all at even strength) were nothing to sneeze at. Back-to-back years with 9 even strength goals for the Rangers. He made mistakes defensively but he held his own, he could skate a bit, and he was mean as hell.
A top-4 version of Kevin Klein that's bigger and even faster would be absolutely amazing.
