Davidson taking over for Jarmo makes me think some of those CBJ veterans will actually be available. Jenner, Kuraly, Marchenko all guys I like. No interest in another man's trash like Roslovic and Texier
People will balk at trading with CBJ because of the bad blood, but if I know JD, he's a hockey man. If it makes sense for Columbus, he'll be willing to deal.

Lars Eller is scoring at 1.4p/60 @ 5v5 this year
Adam Henrique is scoring at 1.8 p/60 5v5 this year

Henrique is rumored to cost a 1st with retention
Eller probably costs a mid-round pick

Henrique has played some wing this year, and there are concerns about his footspeed
Eller has played almost exclusively center and skating has been a strength of his for his entire career

Henrique is a UFA at years end so he's a pure rental
Eller has 1 more year at a reasonable $2.425m cap hit

I know where I'm going if Pittsburgh would trade him.
Well let's hope Pens don't go on a run to stay in playoff race and their demands are reasonable (including the fact that it would be intra-division trade). I don't know how much Eller would cost in trade assets but it's definitely would be a concern.

He will almost certainly want Kakko or Schneider plus picks in a deal for a guy like Jenner. Im iffy on that.

Part of the draw to someone like Eller is that he could easily slide in to that 4C spot to start next season when Goodrow is traded or bought out and supply a viable depth center option should an injury occur.
Why would you do Brod'zki dirty like that?

Well that's another story, and I agree with you there.

Schneider is getting into the territory where it's like, yeah, he's an intriguing young piece so I get why you're interested, but he's also a starter in our lineup. Sort of like when everyone wanted Gleyber Torres from the Yankees that one off-season and the Yankees were just like "yeah but he's our second baseman tho."

I want Schneider to take over for Trouba soon and enter the top 4. We don't have another top 4 replacement.

Schneider is untouchable based on our pipeline and his importance to the NHL team. Kakko isnt but if they are trading him it needs to be a good deal for a clear upgrade

Also, I can't believe I just typed out that I want Braden Schneider in our top 4.

He deserves a lot of credit for how much he's improved.

Glad to see you've seen the light but the hate was overblown on a former first rounder who is still not 23 until next September. He and Lafreniere have been the biggest long term developments for the team imo

Didn’t the cap already flatline before goodrow was signed? It was poor cap management by Drury because it was signed post covid cba. You certainly make that case for the trouba since that is was pre-Covid. All of drury first ufa contracts were all too much for too long.
He signed off season in 2021, I don't think most GM's thought we'd still have a flat cap in 2024. Maybe Drury SHOULD have known, but I remember the optimism concerning the players and owners working out cap increases.
In any case my point was not about Drury's move, it was about how we look at the 3.6mil contract. And if the cap had gone up we wouldn't be looking at it as quite so outrageous.

We should trade for Blais, Lemieux, and DeAngelo
I'd take Sammy Blais back. He's still hitting everything that moves and hasn't been taking a bunch of penalties, only 27min on the year. He's not scoring either, just 1G 6A, but in a forth line role, I'd go there. Dependent on cost of course.

When Pittsburgh blows it up and tries to just offload cap for this off-season, I'm here for Lars Eller. 1 more year on his deal @ $2.45m, low key is a PIA to play against, good size and skating, 53.9% faceoff percentage and has 17 points in 50 games. You want a guy who can slot in between Cuylle and Kakko? That's the guy and I would imagine his cost will be minimal as the list of teams who can fit $2.45m is small, and the list of those same teams who want him for next year at that same cap hit will be even smaller.
I think this would be a smart move depending on cost of course.

lol that’s good to know

Big doesn’t mean physical

Dowd gonna cost alot so looking at other roster guys

Caps have some interesting guys outside of Dowd. Oshie would fill some big needs on this team in the top 6 but he is just way to injury prone now and with another year left that becomes a complicated

Well, analytics can change. Ineffective players can become good, and vice versa.

The thing with Schneider is, watching his game, I just didn't see much room for improvement. Eye test, can't take it anywhere.

I still think he's always going to have defensive lapses because his positioning and the instincts thereof are below average imo, but I'm really surprised by his skill level and how well he moves the puck. He seems to have more confidence doing that this year. That's what I missed.

At the end of the day, my thing is, I don't care that much about mistakes. Somebody on your team has to play rock solid D, but it doesn't have to be everyone. I'm way more concerned with being able to move the puck 200 feet away from your own net, and he's shown that he has that at the NHL level, plus he was always a good athlete and can skate for his size.

I'm going to throw out a weird comp here:

Klein was a verrrryyyy low-key excellent puck mover with a great shot. His totals (all at even strength) were nothing to sneeze at. Back-to-back years with 9 even strength goals for the Rangers. He made mistakes defensively but he held his own, he could skate a bit, and he was mean as hell.

A top-4 version of Kevin Klein that's bigger and even faster would be absolutely amazing.

IIRC they knew that the cap was going to be pretty stagnant until the players paid back the league in escrow, and it was about a 4 year plan to pay it back. I might be wrong but I think a majoriity of people thought at least 3 years the cap wouldn't raise much unless the players paid off the escrow early.

have there been any interesting or vaguely substantial rumors about who the Rangers might be interested in before the deadline

The Coyotes have lost 7 in a row; falling further away from a playoff spot. Recent talk of their arena situation/possible relocation may be distracting them, but they aren't very talented. Odds are they'll start selling in the near future. Bjugstad has been mentioned here. Also McBain. Clayton Keller a pipe dream. Nick Schmaltz? Just curious/rambling on.
