Waiving Pitlick should open up more ice time for Edstrom, a 6-foot-8 winger who logged his second NHL game Monday.

I thought [Edstrom] was good,” head coach Peter Laviolette said postgame. “He’s a big guy that just skates so well. His stick is big, and even in practice (Monday) you could see him moving up and down the ice. He skates with ease

I like his physicality. I like his awareness. He was a player that played good defense [in Hartford]. He killed penalties. Eventually, we’ll start to work him into different scenarios, but there wasn’t anything in the game that made me feel like he couldn’t play in the last five, six minutes of the game.

But it appears that, for now at least, Edstrom has played his way into a role with the Rangers

I'm not opposed to Mittelstadt, has turned into a pretty solid C, played with Fox & Lindgren on the WJC team, as a Chytil replacement it's maybe as good as it's gonna get right now.

Do the Rangers have the stones to waive or scratch Wheeler if they add a forward for that RW next to Meeka and Kreider? They've already whacked Bonino and Pitlick. Wheeler has been fine in that spot but not enough to not make me open to an alternative. He wouldn't really fit anywhere else in the lineup. Lavi/Drury seem to believe in playing the kids if they are ready. Top line Laf, Cuylle & Edstrom winning spots.

This talk of guys like Iafallo and Foegele being potentially makes me think Drury can make a smart "Vatrano" type trade and add a guy who can play in the top 6 for cheap who doesnt have the lateral mobility of a boat.

Laviolette is seriously a massive breath of fresh air.

Imagine the Rangers waiving 2 veteran forwards who weren't performing under any other former coaching regime that seemed to play favorites....you can't.

Before Chytil's injury and Kakko's inability to produce as 1RW... all 3 "kid line" members started in top 6, a career AHLer who finallu got a chance to play to his strengths (Brod) has stuck, and now Edstrom is getting a shot on 4L.

I was never a fan of the Gallant firing as I felt it gave the teams core that should have been culpable for the MAJORITY of the Round 1 loss an out (say a 60/40 or 70/30 share of that between them and coaching)....but the way Laviolette talks and his adjustments and reluctance to immediately put lines in blender or blind bias towards guys just because of former status is incredible.

Can we leave Kakko with Cuylle for a little bit? Maybe just maybe he has some chemistry with someone finally. Maybe with Cuylle's speed and Aggressiveness on the forecheck he can open some things up for Kakko?
Sometimes lightning in a bottle doesn't last....but 5v5 the eye test says our 3rd line of Cuylle-Brod-Kakko has been incredible.

I'd be focusing assets at 1RW and depth C as opposed to 3C and lesser RW upgrade.

Its disgusting and gross that 8.5 Mika and 6.5 Kreider need a RW to round out their line when they are paid money to produce like top line guys no matter what, but thats what it has come to I suppose.

If we can add a legit RW and a depth C option, I'mm very comfortable with Brod as 3C judging by his speed, shoot first, and apparent chemistry with Cuylle and Kakko.

That said, if you can add a RW and a 3C, you could do ALOT worse that Brod as your 13th guy up front come crunch time.

Vatrano + Henrique?
Doubt ARZ sells but Bjugstad + Zucker (don't know if his game has fallen off in ARZ)?

BYE FELICIA.

Wheeler I hope you rented and didn’t buy.

He has a no trade and Is buds with the team captain

He also doesn’t stink he should just not be in the top 6

Just use Edstrom and some other AHL fill ins for now but I fully expect a C and RW coming in to help by the deadline

There were things about Pitlick I liked. He forechecked fairly well and he hit and some of the time those hits were pretty hard but that was about it. The Rangers didn't use him much on the PK and he didn't produce much offense at all. Edstrom is bigger, stronger and a very good skater. Whether he'll produce a lot I don't know but Laviolette is already talking about fitting him in on our PK.

I wouldn't mind if Pitlick (not like Bonino) decided to stick around in Hartford. As a depth kind of injury call up there's a possibility he could still have some use for us. Bringing up Edstrom now though is a good move.

Not a big fan of Wheeler. He does have some good games but lots of times this year he's handled the puck like it was a hand grenade and I don't really think he's found good chemistry on any line he's been on. For a 6'5 guy he doesn't have much of a power game. He's cheap though and I expect he'll finish out the year but if we're talking right now anyway I wouldn't be resigning him.

I actually don’t have an issue with wheeler being on the team. No reason to get rid of him unless absolutely necessary imo
I think the issue with Wheeler isn't how he's playing...its more his current lineup placement and his performance relative to expectations.

I'm sure no one should have expected him to come in and replicate a 50 point season, but I also don't think anyone expected him to look as slow and produce as poorly as he has.

He's best suited in a 3rd line role, but there is no way he should be replacing Kakko on that line when they've been so good lately.

I think we acquire a RW and ultimately end up with Wheeler scratched as 13th F.

Kreider-Mika-XX
Panarin-Troch-Laf
Cuylle-Brod/XX-Kakko
Vesey-Goodrow-Edstrom
Wheeler (and potentially Brod) if we also acquire a 3C

They are not trading Tuch lol. At least not for cheap. I'm talking a hell of a lot more than what we are talking about for Zegras. The guy has 2 more years at less than 5mil, he can play center and scored 36 goals and 79 points last year. Figure out the value in that (it's a lot).

make it happen Drury

Fair enough...actually forgot about these.

But to my point, Laviolette through everything he has said and done, seems to have a much larger pro-active part in these moves....as opposed to the placement of young guys in lineup and time it took to come to decision pointing to it being Drury forcing Gallants hand

I wouldnt touch that 3rd line in general. 2nd and 3rd line are better than mika’s line.
This is the problem, the Zib line is stale, Kakko was taken off that line because it didnt work, well it still hasnt worked, imo Kakko need to be tried again in the top 6, we have become a different team since he returned. If we are to go anywhere this year Zibanejad needs to be a big part of that. Our 3rd line isn't gonna score enough to float this team.

I think Drury is making these moves, same as last year
