Here are all of the centers who have been discussed as compared to Brodzinski and Goodrow this season. Yes it's a small sample size but some of these guys are considerably worse and will cost decent assets to acquire. Roslovic has been playing wing. We believe Henrique has been as well (per @RangerBoy ). McBain and Middlestedt are RFA's, Jenner and Bjugstad have term left.

The only guy I didn't add here was Kevin Hayes as we need to wait and see if St Louis falls out of the race.

I'm still on bandwagon 'don't give up prime assets for any center here). Upgrade Goodrow and push him to the wing unless things turn around for him.

Henrique plays both. ANA changes lines and positions on a daily basis.

Sending someone to Minnie tho... That's brutal.

Minnesota is great when it's not winter. Ever been there during the summer? f***ing beautiful.

The team will turn it around pretty quickly though. Their farm is f***ing stacked.

Congrats you just made us worse lol.

Not for the NYR it doesn’t.
IMO it's even worse for Anaheim from the value perspective. Kids and a 2nd aside they'd be taking on Goodrow's salary for many years AND retain on highly sought this TDL Vatrano and Henrique for only one 1st rounder?

So if I‘m Drury, the 2024 1st (and for that matter the 2025 1st) is off the table unless we are talking about someone like Zegras. I want a long term quality piece if and when that trade happens. I don’t think Middlestedt falls into that category. The first alone wouldn’t be enough to that kind of deal but it would be a necessary piece.

For guys like Vatrano, Henrique etc. the 2024 second (plus and middling prospect) is my best offer. Same as other rental types. No firsts for complimentary pieces.

Good luck with three salary retentions.

Maybe you’ll get your wish if they get bounced in the first again which seems very likely.

Really? Because in the NFL it’s the same 4 or 5 teams that are good every year.

If they did we’d have fans coping and saying “they’re just saving it for the playoffs/they’re already locked into x seed so I’m not worried”

We saw how well that played out last year.

I agree they'll probably get bounced, but who knows. We focus so much on the Rangers but the truth is, outside of Boston (who looked unstoppable then was bounced in round 1 last year), most teams look beatable. This is especially so in our division which is filled with a bunch of mediocre crap. That is why GMs will go for it.

My point for the NFL was that it's very easy in the NFL to go from bottom to successful or from successful to mediocre. The Chiefs are the first back to back winner in 20 years. There's a reason for that. It's likely due to different reasons (e.g. injuries, single round playoff games, etc), but a lot of the success in the NFL is due to luck and becoming hot at the right time. It's becoming very similar in the NHL. The best team frequently wins less and less.

Value is also dependent on team need. Zegras is the only piece there that we would want beyond this season, and the other two don’t get us any further in the playoffs this year anyway. This is a shitty value for NYR considering our position. The last thing we need is to ship off high picks for retention on players that don’t even move the needle. And selling low on KK is a massive mistake. ANA gains multiple long term assets for a player they are down on (Zegras) and two vets they don’t need. So it’s actually good for their team long term though not a great deal by general market value perception.

The Rangers are ranked #19 by Scott Wheeler

1-Perreault
2-Othmann
3-Berard
4-Sykora
5-Cuylle
If this list ends up being accurate this team is in great shape because Cuylle is already a very good NHL player. I have him third on the list at worst, probably second.

Unpopular opinion but I don't think there's a way to fix this team in its current iteration.
Good ol' country club Rangers looking forward to the offseason like usual.
It's probably time to trade Zibanejad, Panarin, Kreider, Kakko, Trouba and Shesterkin while they have value and start another rebuild more than anything.
This team straight up disappears when it matters. Just look at the Tampa and Devils series. Last year was the year more than any in team history and they choked it away like the losers they are against their arch rivals.
Also probably time to fire Drury and staff and go in a different direction. Preferably from someone who has never worked in the Rangers organization.
I've never liked Laviolette and was pretty grossed out when they signed him.
This is a core that is designed to get bounced in the first round year in and year out. They have no grit. They have no heart. And it shows.
Your preaching to the choir. Unfortunately, the people in charge see things differently. The Rangers have too many needs and holes to fill.

I don't want to go into in depth discussion but the suggestion is much closer to address the Rangers roster needs at forwards for this playoff run than what Anaheim would be getting in return compared to what they could be getting elsewhere and if sold separately. So whether you think it's not a good trade from the Rangers perspective on a relative basis it's even worse for Anaheim. That's it.

Zegras or bust.

Laf, Zegras, Perreault one of Othmann/Kakko is a F core you can build around. You have Cyulle, Edstrom, Rempe for the tuffness.
Zegras is the only center in this core of 4-5 forwards. Unless they're changing hockey to three on three or using figure skating judges to score goals (9.5 for a triple axel Michigan), having Trevor Zegas as your first line center isn't it for an F core.
