Weren’t they both part of the summer of 1999 when we signed every decent free agent cost (and attitude) be dammed?
Sure was. Keane and the other guy from the panthers too?

*Edit* it was Skrudland too

I like Berard but he is 5-9.

The other two guys are big trees and big trees win in the playoffs.

Hopefully, Berard becomes the Rangers version of Trevor Moore and they are patient with him unlike the Maple Leafs who traded Moore to the Kings. Moore is a really good player.
They’re still relatively thin for they’re height.

The team needs more guys who care. These guys go out there and play pond hockey and do cardio. Watching this team I walk away every night thinking they care more about their opponents wanting to have a beer with them after the game than actually winning.

Softest team weve ever put on the ice in franchise history
Agreed. Sometimes I think maybe it’s a NYC problem- too many distractions. My sister once ran into a few Rangers (Rick Nash era) at a bar drinking full glasses of vodka on the night prior to a game.

I get it, 25 year old millionaire in NYC. I just wish they could wait for the off season. Speaking of, I have a feeling guys like zbad doesnt see the inside of a gym in the offseason.

Lastly, the babies are killing us! Panarin last year, zbad and shesty this year.

You can add Ozolinsh to this group.

I hated the Ozolinsh move.

Mostly because the move would have been unnecessary if the Rangers did what they should have done, and that was bring Brian Leetch back as a UFA instead of letting him sign with Boston.

IMO, that move prolongs Leetch's career and would've filled the team's biggest need that entire season. Eventually, Leetch retires a Ranger, and he would've scored his 1000th point as a Ranger.

Plus a full season of Leetch with Jagr (especially the way their PP went that season) would've been *chef's kiss.*

05-06 was their best post lockout team when healthy and it wasn't even close. Would've been:

Rucinsky-Nylander-Jagr
Sykora-Straka-Prucha
Hossa-Rucchin-Ward
Moore-Betts-Ortmeyer
(Hollweg/Orr as scratches, but available when TUFFNESS needed)

Leetch-Rozsival
Malik-Poti
Kasparaitis-Tyutin
(Strudwick)

Lundqvist

OTOH - Worst Rangers (strictly based on effort/wanting to be here, obviously excluding people who came over when they were physically toast) over the past 30 years:
-Stephane Quintal
-Scott Fraser
-Kevin Stevens (worse by the fact we gave up Robitaille for him, and Robitaille was good for several more years after this horrendous trade).
-Igor Ulanov (always remember him being mean to play against and would kill us with timely goals and assists...did nothing while here, was barely physical)
-Anson Carter (only redeemed in that he was traded for Jagr...but wow was he disappointing)
-Bobby Holik
-Adam Hall
-Chris Higgins
-Donald Brashear
-Kevin Shattenkirk
-David Desharnais
-Lias Andersson
-Patrik Nemeth
-Sammy Blais

Kakko has yet to be better than vatrano yet. Objectively speaking for this season and next vatrano would be an upgrade at RW.

Gabe will be a top 6 player from day 1. And that day 1 will be the 25-26 season. You dont see 1st round picks produce at the college level like he is and just stay in college 3+ years.

Kakko is 22 (or did he just turn 23?) and already was a better player than Vatrano last year. They had the same point totals and Kakko was far superior on D and possession. Plus 9 of Vatranos points were on the PP, he won’t get that here. This year Vatrano has 13 PPP, again he’s not sniffing that here. Or getting 18+ top line mins a night.
Vatrano is a one trick pony who will not be a more valuable player than Kakko. Not in this years playoffs and not going forward.
Trading Kakko to get Vatrano and/or Henrique would be monumentally stupid IMO. It would be the ultimate sell low train wreck.

Another option would be a 1-year deal for Kakko at a modest bump. That would give both the team and the player a bit more time to figure things out.
Stop making sense. kK’s QO is 2.4 mil, and thus far he hasn’t earned much more. One year deal then see what he deserves afterwards. Of course if he would sign long term for 3mil or 4mil I’d do it tomorrow, but I think that’s just wishful thinking.

These mix and match PP units being tried today are a temporary measure for the regular season to get out of a slump. There's no way that in a 1-0 game in the playoffs when NYR get a PP that they go anything other than all the big guns for 90 seconds.

My guess right now is that Lav's preparing for Bread to miss a couple games. Run 23 93 17 & 13 16 24 as lines 1A &1B. Have Brodz slot up from the 3rd for PP1, and whoever he wants to reward (Cools would be a good pick) up to PP2 in place of Panarin.

50 22 XX
Could be Vesey as that 3RW, could be Edstrom. I just hope it's not BG. Regardless, the 4th line should be a lot of fun, that's for sure!

Pits is a meh 13F, maybe even in a good way, where he can at least take a 4th line shift and not be out of place. But the writing is on the wall. We have 13 better guys (which imo now firmly includes Brodz), so I'm happy to see him go, but thankful for his service. The same thing with Bonino.

If we improve the roster enough through trade and/or an Edstrom (or two?) sticking, meaning Brodz is pushed to 13F, then we're in really good shape. If "AHL Wayne Gretzky" isn't the best 13F in the league, I don't what is. I don't think they have the stones to scratch Goodrow, but if he's 13F going into the playoffs, then that means we're a wagon that can look to buy him out soon anyway.

Don’t get this sentiment. He’s been our best bottom 6er all year outside of Vesey and for league min. He’s earned a top-12 spot unless they go nuts at forward at the deadline.

Hopefully we see all 3 by deadline day
I disagree about Brodz. Vesey and Cuylle have BOTH been objectively better and cases can be made that a couple of others have been more effective as well. But even if you think he’s been the 3rd best bottom sixer, that’s not saying much the way we generally malign the level of play of the bottom six. I WELCOME giving young players the opportunity to displace him. He is what he is, these guys may bring far more. If they aren’t ready yet, he keeps his spot. I see no downside.

Keane and Skrudland were in 97 I thought... Same summer they walked away from Messier.

So dumb...
Yup, they went all in on offer sheeting Sakic.

Oops, Avs matched.

Zero Plan B, C, D, E, F, G, H...(to be continued)...Z

And let Messier walk for nothing. Then tried to replace his leadership but not his scoring, with guys with zero history with the organization or anyone on the active roster. So bad.

Damn, that 05-06 team would have been SO MUCH BETTER with just that one move. Legit one of the times that the "nostalgia move" would have been an obvious improvement.

Fkn Ulanov. My main memory of him as a Ranger is him spearing a guy in the junk for getting into the crease. A response would have normally been appreciated, but it looked like gutless garbage to me. However, if Anson gets a plus for being part of getting Jagr (and I may look back on him more fondly than you), then Ulanov at least gets a point for being part of what got us Bure.

The way he creates offense isn’t pretty and those same goals and points are available at the NHL level. Guys don’t compete like they used to on a nightly basis in front of their own net.

I’ll agree to disagree on penalties. Some are aggressive penalties and some aren’t. He’s more the former. I’ll take a player who is the aggressor even if it means some penalties.
Agree. Lots of nhl goals are ugly. Tips and scrambles. And those are the exact kind of goals the rangers aren’t getting. The question with Rempe is whether or not he can keep ahead of the action. If he can get himself in the right spots he’ll be effective. It’s a big ‘if’ of course but I’m excited to see him get a shot.

Yes but how many nhl fights do you see anymore ?

Let’s just hope he can earn that 4th line C spot between Goodrow and Vesey
I think I’m at the end of my rope with Goodrow. No hate. He just doesn’t impact the game positively anymore. Not enough. I’d send Pitlick down (assuming he clears) and make Goodrow the 13F. Let the big boys bang for a while.
Bottom six:
Vesey-Brod-Kakko
Cuylle-Edstrom-Rempe.

Something like that. If Rempe can’t keep up, Goodrow can check back in. Maybe a rest will help him.
