Would Marcus Johansson from MIN make sense? He’s a pretty good play driver and only has a 2 x 2MM cap hit. 3rd line, kick Goodrow down to 4th.

The Wild aren’t going anywhere and he could be had for maybe cheap, leaving Drury with more room for a RW.

yeah i like Johansson, that would be a great add

Bonino had a family vacation scheduled for the NHL all star break. The Rangers gave him permission to report to Hartford after the break was over. Maybe Bonino changed his mind. Sign with another team? Another team could have picked him on waivers. Retiring?

Frees up a contract for Drury to add more rentals

Probably went on vacation with the family and figured, why am I still playing hockey?

There is no ambiguity in the Rangers’ or Drury’s perspective; they are going to buy. To what extent, however, is unknown.

Last week it was they were all in and were going to trade Kakko, Othmann, Cuylle and their 1st (exaggerating) and now this week its "unknown."

Brooks was had.

I really don't get what "respect" has to do with it lol. Player says he doesn't want to play anymore, and the team terminates his contract "out of respect". What was the other option? To say "actually no, we'll just suspend you without pay because lulz"?

It means they all got the same text from some Rangers staffer

He was invisible during their playoff run 2 years ago.

Scored a single goal (pp goal which was literally a rebound that bounced in off his shin pad) and most of his assists were just him handing the puck to someone else and having them do all the work.

Had a grand total of 3 high danger chances 5v5 through out that whole run. Totally in line with what we saw from him in any games that had a shred of importance here. Rangers had a shot at making a bit of a run during the covid shortened 2021 season and they fell flat, he was a big part of that.
1 goal and 11 assists in 12 games is no invisible. Remeber blues are not that great defensively. Buch has to be a great 2way player and drive the play. He was good enough.

Yes? It looks bad to get demoted. It gets written about in the press he got suspended for not reporting and lives permanently online.

Yup I think the timing is perfect to pay for a guy who can solidify the team through Panarin's contract. 1st+Kakko+another prospect in the Berard/Edstrom/Robertson/Jones tier? Im sure thats close to the ask.
Yup, that's too much to give up, especially with no retention. Most I'd do is a first this year ('24), Conditional first '25 (if we win the cup this year, if not, 2nd rounder '24), Jones & NCAA guy not named Perreault.

1 and 10 and as I mentioned, most of those assists were just him giving the puck to someone else and having them do all the dirty work.

I watched basically every game the Blues played in that run. He had maybe 4 periods where he looked good.

later in the article he is suggesting if Henrique and Vatrano are a package it could be Kakko+1st going back.

We need too much to go all in. Make a couple cheap moves.. keep everyone including 24 and 79. Keep Berard,Oth,Gabe, Edstrom,Jones,1st rders and play 79 with 4. Its fools gold to go for it. We are small, slow and understaffed for a run. Now with a pissed off Igor our chances are diminished. Placate Dolan with a couple token moves. Last nights game was admirable but over a 7 game series we are toast against the true contenders.

I just don't think that would happen unless there's really bad blood between the player and the team. If a player asks to terminate his contract (for whatever reason really), they should be able to do so and respect should have nothing to do with it. Well, I mean normal respect between an employee and an employer, but nothing special.

The tweet is just being nice about it and giving him some flowers as he goes IMO. Costs nothing.

Yeah it's a weirdly worded tweet, because that's what would have happened if he didn't report to Hartford, even if he didn't ask to be let go.

It sounds like they gave him a couple extra days to make the ultimate decision. I guess that was the respect part.

I am with you on the first part of your statement I am not trading youth for old rentals but who would we be toast against in 7 games in the East? The Panthers? (we usually play well against them. The Hurricanes (don't scare me with no elite talent and below average goalies. The Bruins? (maybe but they have holes as well)

Yes, the part where he didn't immediately have to report to Hartford, but got to have his all-star break, that was respect. Not the termination of the contract out of his request.

I guess it was just poor wording.

Peter Baugh injected that additional part in. Maybe that's his interpretation.

The alternative is that he's under contract and the Rangers could insist he report to the 'Pack. The "respect" thing accounts for that and the club does what's best for the player and not necessarily the club. Bonino could help the Wolfpack, for sure. This could be as much about Bonino having immediate options should someone call him/his agent as it is about not wanting to play anymore. Class move by the Rangers.

Even that was speculative.

At this point I'd have more respect for the writers if they just came out and said what is obvious.

"we don't know!"

I do a lot of writing as part of my day job, and that's like the last thing you want to do/say as a writer lol
