I see both sides but I agree I think we could have as good of a chance in a 7 game series as much as anyone else in this conference.
Would Dowd for a first rounder be a better choice over someone like Sturm for a 4th rounder?

Dowd is a better player than Sturm and I think you'd need to send Grier more than a 4th for him, he has been an in demand player for contenders before (Avs added him for their Cup run). My opinion would be to get both and completely solidify the team down the middle lol. Especially if they arent going big game hunting for a defenseman like Hanifin.

Dowd is such a perfect fit and I hope Lavi and Drury know it. If it costs a 1st, you bite the bullet imo. You get him for 2 years at a nothing contract and he is the exact type of gritty forechecking center we need. Caps arent going to give us a break on the asking price. Half the guys I mentioned aren't even going to be on the market in all likelihood (most of the good ones specifically) and if a pick in the mid-20s is all it takes, do it. For context, the first round prospect we take with that pick wont make his NHL debut until Panarin is on another contract. Now is not the time to have diamond hands if you can get a very effective player for 2 years.

I wouldn't say Dowd is 'perfect'. There are other guys who may be a lower cost and fit better. The Rangers are in a unique position where they don't NEED to go after the guy making $800k because they have some cap space whereas many other contenders will have to jump through considerable hoops to fit even $1m.

I would have no problem if we iced a 4th line that played no event hockey. It's my preference in fact. Goodrow keeps that from happening.

Luke Kunin is Barclay Goodrow level awful. Would rather have Girgensons than him.

Girgensons would be a very good 4th line center and @ $2m, unless Buffalo wants to retain, he shouldn't cost much as many teams will shy away from allocating that much money to a 4th liner.

I'll say this, if I am giving up a 1st, I want Novak and then to re-sign him or Hanifan and then re-sign him.

The only guys who I think fit better than Dowd are Gourde and Jenner. Id put together a package for either guy but Dowd's contract, style and familiarity with the system and coaching staff makes him a no brainer. Plus it doesnt hurt that he has pretty good underlying numbers for playing a defensive role. Try to get Washington to add Aube-Kubel if they wont budge off a 1st. Is a 2nd/3rd + Berard better than giving up a pick in the 20s? Im not convinced.

The Blues just traded for him for a 6th. I’m not expecting more than a 3rd or 4th based on his remaining term
If i may step in. Hayes fully retained would be 1.75 mil with two years remaining thats a great deal first could be gotten or second.

Berard is off limits (I see the point you're trying to make tho)
It would be disaster to trade him for a 30 something year old.
He is our best player in Hartford playing in a tough league.

I have a very hard time spending a 1st rounder, or even Berard + 2nd on a guy who hasn't topped 25 points in his career and is 33 years old. Let someone else pay that price.

I dont watch much of Hartford but thats good to know. Berard I would only really be open to moving in a package for Hanifin, with the expectation that he is extended, like Boston did with Lindholm a few years back.

Points schmoints. We all know Dowd brings much more than that based on watching him the last 5 years.

He has been really developing nicely more noticeable than even Othmann. Actually the games i've watched it's not even close. Only 21 years old.

message sending...new Rangers...meritocracy

Igor not happy that 10 million per year contract looking less and less likely.

I wasn't saying Hayes would need retention to be traded to the Rangers. He already has half retained by Philly which actually fits the Rangers current cap space, no further retention required
Wouldnt rangers want to add more depth. Just curious.

They have ~$4.4m + whatever guys would come out of the lineup and be demoted (say another $800k minimum). So even adding Hayes @ $3.571m they have close to another $1.8m to play with, maybe slightly more. They could add Hayes and likely someone like Sturm or Edmundson or someone like that.

Last thought and i will leave your guys chat room. What about a buchy and hayes. Both retained. That would put you guys over the edge imo. Anyway nice chat have a good day.

Don't give us any ideas bringing up Buchnevich. Some here would trade a limb or their first born kin to bring him back.

He has been amazing here in stl we love him. Blues have so much great youth in the system ( snuggerud, dvorsky, stenberg, lindtsein, bolduc dean) and with neighbors kessel already breaking through, we are more of a 3 years till being a really good young team. Buchy just doesnt fit our time table. It would cost a lot for both.

I was never the biggest Buch fan when he was here but Id gladly bring him back. What would be the asking price?

Blues all seem to agree 1st 2024 top prospect +. Also depending on cap dump or retention.

Othman first 2024 +.

Thats the consensus from blues wedsite..

I would like robertson but everyone says its got to be othman and first 2024 plus small add.

Id actually do that tbh. You can have Robertson too if you retain 50%. If only it were that easy.

That would put the cherry on top of Drury’s crap sundae
