I don't see him getting a fortune. He's had better years. He had 61 points one year or something.

He's almost 32 and justified or not, NHL teams see him as a #6.

I think $1.5m gets it done. This is not Anton Stralman who was 26 and playing legit top 4 minutes. I'm pretty confident that Gustafsson is not seen as breaking out around the league
I fully expect him to get the Nemeth contract from somebody

Maybe just Jimmy Vesey.

I'm more ok with playing Vesey "down" in the lineup if he's only with one moron instead of two.

I'm not saying don't still go for an upgrade, but Vesey's versatility allows us to target any type of player.

I’m okay with Vesey moving down too. I do like the option he gives in terms of adding a player who perhaps doesn’t need to score a ton of points, they just need to compliment what’s needed. That can come in a variety of ways

Nemeth is big and had a defensive reputation. It's a different profile.

Also I'd probably do that for Gustafsson. That's if we literally can, keeping in mind that we have like 12 dollars and the cap probably goes up less than that.

Not a ton of good centers are on the market.

Henrique is a guy. Gourde has basically been a guy the last two years. Monahan blows chunks. Granlund is low-key absolutely f***ing vile. We'd have to designate this thread NSFW if i showed you his charts.

Who else is out there?

If Pittsburgh falters I wonder if Eller is moved. He’d be a nice target if they can fit him.

Jenner is someone I’m curious about too. The year didn’t start well as the captain and I could see Columbus cleaning house a bit.

I’m wondering if we see some contending teams move depth guys to help clear cap space and add elsewhere. Like we saw with Vatrano when he was dealt from Florida. That’s harder to predict than looki mg at bad teams and only discussing those guys.

That’s the thing that bothered you in that completely ridiculous suggestion? haha
It's all fantasyland messageboard stuff, let him shoot for the stars. It's not like Perreault gets traded if an HFNYR poster says yes.

I was initially gonna balk at Jenner but he's not the worst option.

He can drive offense at 5v5 pretty well. It’s just that he kind of shits the bed defensively. Very much a "go a mile out of position to bump into somebody" type of guy.

Maybe if Chytil comes back and Jenner shifts to wing, we can paper around his defense at even strength.

My biggest concern with Jenner is that he has a reputation as a penalty killer and he SHOULD NOT be doing that. Sucks at it.

Have we ever seem him and Ryan Callahan in the same room?

I wish Rangers had a younger Trocheck in the system to add to the Cuylle and Othmann. None of the centers are close to NHL ready. . A gritty scrappy skilled center to add to this mix would not be a bad thing to add. Any scrappy centers able to be drafted this year or any the Rangers can trade for in the 20-22 years old range. Who knows what is gonna happen with Chytil.

Be on the lookout for BMB.

Sometimes they go for the guy people had suggested for years like that idiot Kane.

There are many other years where they end up with a guy nobody thought of.

I can't tell you who it's gonna be, but this year just feels like the latter.

I’ve thought about him with Cuylle and Kakko because of their defensive prowess

It was just a little bit better with Chytil and Trocheck is a better player than Chytil. Trocheck can help another line be more effective than whatever line Chytil lands on while you lose nothing on the Panarin line.

That's my rationale. The only reason I'm prickly about it is because it's going to be one of those things where the Rangers just stick with the thing they've been doing because they've been doing it and don't consider anything else. It's limited thinking.
It used to be the opposite cause Gallant would just change good lines to shit ones. At least Lavi keeps a solid line together.

I think he'll go back to it at some point because it did work and it will happen in a game where things are a little stale. The question becomes would he keep it after switching.

My thing will be who they add and where he wants to use them. I haven't seen anything from Laviolette that would be a red flag on not putting a guy in a good spot.

Everyone has an opinion where Chytil will play when he comes back. I may be wrong but I am doubtful it will be anytime soon and if that is the case do you really put a guy who has missed basically a whole season on a top 2 line and disrupt the Chemistry/flow of the lines playing together especially if its around playoff time?

I would. Cuylle-Trocheck-Kakko sounds like a bitch and a half to play against

If and when Chytil comes back during the season it’s going to take him some time to find his game and get up to speed. This isn’t a video game where you just throw the injured player back into the lineup when they’re healthy and expect results. If you put Chytil in place of Trochek and he struggles you risk your entire top 9 going cold at the same time from all the line shuffling.

Imagine we get a center, let's say Henrique, and do these four lines in alphabetical order by center because they're not in any order.

Panarin-Chytil-Lafreniere
Cuylle-Edstrom-Kakko
Kreider-Trocheck-Vesey
Othmann-Zibanejad-Henrique

Imagine having four good lines with no bad players. That has to be against the CBA or something.
wtf is this lineup lol

no

I would only move Gabe P at this pt for like
Gabe P + LaF +
for
Sanderson +

adds to be figured out
no short term rental types

want foundation pieces even if reasonable overpay involved
LOL wtf are you talking about. That’s worse the the canucks trade

Yeah and the Chytil line was the best line during the other games.

Panarin and Lafreniere just need to be with a competent center.

Trocheck doesn't add anything the line doesn't have. Chytil does because he's an upgrade defensively.

You know you can try things and then change them back if you want, right? I just hate treating lines like we're separating a calf from its mother. That goes for any line.

People want to sit our third best defensman to trade for Dick Feeler because he's two inches taller and I'm insane.
Chytil is not an upgrade defensively, like at all

Enough of this line numbering silliness. TOI determines what line is what number. There’s only a controversy if lines get relatively equal playing time.
