Don’t think Henrique does anything for us. Like at all. Another player whose skating has deteriorated and he doesn’t help anything the Rangers are bad at. Just another recognizable name. If the Rangers are getting another Center for that third line they basically have two options.

If they want to stick with like a center for Cuylle and Kakko; think you need to get a defense first guy and that just becomes your shutdown/matchup line. Basically you try and do what would have happened if they had signed Danault there.

If the plan is to get a center for Othmann/needing to replace Chytil’s offense, think you kind of need to look for a different option for that too; but I think you really need a better skater, because you are probably going to have to move them to wing if/when Chytil is back

why are people acting like Panarin-Chytil-Laf wasn’t fire before Chytil went down?

I don’t think it’s a huge deal who plays C on lines 2 and 3 when everyone is healthy but come on.
Just saying no way the coach breaks that line up for Chytil's return. I'm fine with either centering that line but maybe Chytil and Kakko can find some chemistry. Kakko needs to be a top RW contributor for this team and maybe him and Chytil can find some magic again.

I would like to see Chytil one last time together with Kakko maybe with Cuylle on the LW?
One last chance for a center to mesh with him because it sure hasn't worked with Zib.

Trocheck has beyond good with that line. Winning key faceoffs doesn't hurt as well.

Of course we can change lines if they are stagnating but the thing is this line hasn't. Hopefully when Chytil comes back he will be 1st in line to take Trocheck's spot if that line stagnates a bit otherwise no way should they mess with it. It's been a very large sample size now that line has been our best without question.
When 10-16-13 are on the ice together the Rangers have 18 goals and our opponents have 18 goals.

That's not *bad* but I can't comprehend how this line has reached untouchable status.

Actually, I can. Its because 10 and 16 produce together on the powerplay.

If they can't, then don't. Don't sit Gustafsson because we couldn't find a player good enough to sit Lindgren.

I'm going to have a stroke reading this nonsense.

You know the team is playing well when we have nothing to discuss besides "hey let's just get bigger and toffer for the sake of it!"
There way out is trading Lindgren + for Hanifin, and then just not caring if Hanifin re-signs or not. If Hanifin walks, there’s your Gustafsson money. If he stays, even better.

Not untouchable but game in and game out they seem to create by far the most dangerous scoring opportunities.
I would rather see Chytil with Kakko for a bit. If that combo can work than we should have a very strong third line that could contribute offense 5 on 5 come playoff time.

He's not Sean Monahan and that's not nothing.

I really have been impressed by Gus. He not only handles the puck well but isn't afraid of taking the body when needed BUT how much are we gonna pay this guy? He is gonna be 32 in March.

Give him around what Detroit gave Gostisbehere . Doesn’t have to be a long term deal. Buys you time if you can’t keep Hanifin. Extending Lindgren is the worse option .

This is factually true but man that’s a low bar.

I'm not going out of my way to accommodate Kakko. He lands where he lands.

It would be great if he comes back and is another quality NHL'er, never a bad thing, but he has to grow up and accommodate himself.

Trying to find offense for Kakko in terms of linemates is like trying to find flames that can survive in water.

If he's going to contribute, it's on him to stop murdering the offense of every line he's on.

I could very easily see a scenario, given a run of good health, where Kakko plays out the end of the year on the de facto 4th line.

Wheeler sucks ass and even he doesn't actively prevent Kreider and Zibanejad from producing.

Can live with a 2-3 year deal. Gostisbehere got 1 year didn't he? Not sure if Gus takes only a year especially after the year he is having so far.

I don't see him getting a fortune. He's had better years. He had 61 points one year or something.

He's almost 32 and justified or not, NHL teams see him as a #6.

I think $1.5m gets it done. This is not Anton Stralman who was 26 and playing legit top 4 minutes. I'm pretty confident that Gustafsson is not seen as breaking out around the league

That’s up to him. I wouldn’t give him more than two. Would be more than happy with 1yr. I think Gostisbehere is an extremely fair comp for Gus, except the former in younger

Also, Gustafsson is very good, but you can replace him if somebody else makes a stupid offer.

Just sign the next 5'11" player with good analytics. Hockey is easy.

Why are you counting “hard” goals instead of expected? Is this because it fits your narrative?

Not a ton of good centers are on the market.

Henrique is a guy. Gourde has basically been a guy the last two years. Monahan blows chunks. Granlund is low-key absolutely f***ing vile. We'd have to designate this thread NSFW if i showed you his charts.

Who else is out there?

Because with Chtyil they also have great expected numbers and better actual numbers.

I don't think the world is ending either way but we're debating if 45 or 50 is a larger number and 45 is winning.

I actually agree with you on the switch but not because of the reason you stated (I wholeheartedly disagree that Chytil is better than Trocheck defensively), but Vincent is more versatile and could be a better center to play with Cuylle and Kakko.

You might be right. Trocheck's defense metrics are trash this year but they were fine before. Chytil's are also fine. Trocheck a bit more so.

It's probably just Lafreniere. If you believe analytics, Lafreniere sucks defensive ability out of his line like a vampire, the way Kakko does with offense. And you know what? I don't care. I want Lafreniere to continue improving at offense and I just don't care.

1.5? Sign me up especially with the cap going up. Not sure he takes that but would be a steal if he did.

Laf has to be untouchable at this time. Chytil too because we would end up selling so low. We have some nice options if Hartford guys (namely Othmann) work out. Agree replacement/backup C and backup D. Hatet o think of losing Kakko though.

It would be a not insignificant raise for him.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe playing for the Rangers grabs more attention. Maybe the reach of analytics continues to grow.

All I know is, this isn't a particularly spectacular year for him. This is what he is. He's good. They never noticed it before and I'm not sure they do now.
