The slander that I responded to was that we don't need players like him because he lacks "heart and soul." It's not the dumbest thing I've read here or even in the top 10 because the grit/tuffness group posts shit thats all color and shape now, but it's a pretty dumb reason to say that you don't want a player.

He's a better all around defender than Makar (and there is plenty of data to support this but if you value the offense over the defense thats fine, theres plenty of data that supports that he's a better offensive player than Fox too) and I'd pump the breaks on Quinn Hughes who is having a career year on a team where seemingly EVERYONE is having a career year. Also consider who those guys play with and then who Fox plays with. Massive gulf between the likes of Towes and Hronek and Ryan Lindgren.

Fox had a bad moment in game 7 and for some reason it defined his series. I would ask you to re watch Seattle-Colorado gm7 because Makar blew chunks in that game. Guess by that standard he had a bad series too.

Regardless, he is at worst a top 4-5 player in the league at his position. Don't care about his heart and soul, he's f***ing awesome and would be even more awesome if he didn't have an offensive (and tbh defensive this year) vampire attached to him.
Hard to take a guy with your username seriously. Also, I agree with og poster- you seem to be reading some posts in the wrong way.

Berard is also practically the only player in our entire roster + system whos skating is a strength
Edstrom

Agreed. Outside of Cuylle, Berard, Sykora’s energetic type of game, Othmann’s and Rempe grit and toughness are the few players that are willing to play with an edge and hard work consistently in the whole organization
That shift really started once Drury took over.

Where are you reading Fox slander? Personally, I've stated here multiple times I think he's overrated by this board, but I don't go out of my way to criticize him, and I'm not seeing others slander him. I've seen people say & rightfully so, IMO, that he wasn't very good in the 2nd half last season & he was struggling right after his injury this season. I & others have also made comments that his playoffs against the Devils were subpar...his PPG didn't tell the story. And like it or not, his lack of physicality in his own end can be a problem. You may disagree with all of that, but none of it is slander.

To clarify, when I say he's overrated, this board acts like he's the second coming of Bobby Orr. I've read here constantly he's better than Cale Makar & just this week someone posted he's better than prime Victor Hedman. None of this is living in reality. Frankly I feel Quinn Hughes has passed him this year...he's certainly more talented. Fox just isn't as good as those guys, IMO, & that's ok. He's still a great player & one of the top D-men in the league...but that shouldn't make him immune to criticism.

I certainly agree that he would benefit greatly with a new partner who is a legitimate top 4D in this league. Lindgren aint it. I'd also like to see him improve his skating during the off-season. He doesn't strike me as a guy who takes his physical conditioning that seriously...although I have nothing to back that up other than what I'm seeing with the eye test.
Fox isn't better than Makar but he's consistently in the conversation for the norris, so i can't see how he's overrated, with the injury this year he's been less than his usual self but still good.

don't want to start a dialog about Brooks
but today's column raises a fair point about paying 1st's for rentals

in only 2 cases has a team traded a 1st for a rental, then won a Cup
and 1 was Weight to Canes in '06

please just don't

I brought this up the last two years.

Teams that have to pay big to rent, just means they aren’t good enough.

Stop doing it.

You said this

I agree- zibinejad isn’t a first line center that takes you to the promised land. That’s not a skill comment, it’s a heart and sould comment. Ditto for kreids, fox, kam,

I mean how else should one take it?

Look forward to you unsuccessfully trying to move the goal posts on this one.

Calling out the 4 best skaters we’ve had on our most successful run of late doesn’t really give you any room to throw any stones. Nor does wanting to play Mackey more lol.

The people who want to trade Gustafsson need to log off until puck drop tomorrow. Makes absolutely no sense to do that. We need an additional defenseman.
Actually, Gus is worth more to us than to any of the contenders. So, trading him makes zero sense. He can fill in for Fox or Miller should those guys miss a game or two. I'm sure we will add another Dman at the deadline. And Gus might even be relegated to 7th guy. But he's a perfect fit to step in should the need arise

Edstrom

That shift really started once Drury took over.

Berard and Cuylle were picks that were made while Gorton was still here. They’re going to get several NHL players out of that draft so credit where it’s due. Othmann, Sykora, Laba, Chmelar were guys who were taken by this current FO.

Guess i’m watching the BC/BU game tomorrow.

They won’t play but I’ll be watching that game anyway lol.

What the heck has happened to Edstrom? What kind of injury did he sustain?
It was a week to week upper body injury. He was on the road with the Rangers, practicing with the Pack, and then injured.

Maybe he took a puck to the arm or broke something?

Guys like Berard, Sykora, Edstrom, Rempe - they may have NHL futures and I wouldn’t be looking to move them, but they are far from “untouchable”
The problem is that the proposals they’re being thrown into willy nilly aren’t really helping the team and make them worse in the long run. Berard and Sykora are both very good 5v5 scorers in their first year pro. They also profile to be good support players that are strong skaters, forecheck well, and should complement our higher-end skill players. The Rangers finally are building a stable of good prospects that are close to being contributors at the NHL level on ELCs. That’s more valuable than wasting them on rentals that won’t move the needle and are only short-term fixes.

If they want to add, make it for someone who can contribute beyond this year.

Of course they aren't "untouchable" but I feel they mean more to this team/organization/culture than they would be in a trade. We are finally investing the time to develop young forwards the right way in Hartford and it would suck to trade a Berard/Edstrom/Sykora/Othmann and lose that year plus of development. Unless of course a young super talented player is coming back but I don't see those guys returning that. I just wouldn't trade them for yet another rental.

Sucks...not sure if this coaching staff would have given 5-10 games to see what he could really do but it's a moot point now with his injury.

I agree with you I’m just saying they are not untouchable. I think you’re spot on

I'm not sure how you can equate this team to the TB team... but sure...

This team doesn't need a 3C... this team needs a core.

Goodrow, Coleman were complementary pieces to a pretty amazing core of players.

Point, Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedmen, Vailevskiy... All 30 or under at the time.

They were able to find complimentary players that helped that core take a step.

This core is not that... and will never be that. Adding complimentary pieces to a sub par core is futile.
Rather profetic

I feel pretty confident saying they won't keep them all. The important forwards for the future are Lafreniere, Othmann, Perreault, and Cuylle. That's 4 wings. If they feel differently about Kakko than I do, that would be 5. Only so many winger spots for the future. As for Edstrom and Rempe, they are dime a dozen prospects. This org is severely lacking future promise at center with Chytil on the rocks. I'd prefer they use assets to get a good young center now, but good luck finding one who is actually available.
