So everyone gonna snap if Kakko goes in a Henrique and Vatrano package ?
Maybe not, but if you think Kakko and a 1st is enough for Henrique and Vatrano with some retention, the Ducks fans laugh at you. Obviously not sure what the GMs think, but would imagine their ask is an actual top prospect from the Rangers on top of that. So is everyone going to snap if it is

Kakko
Othmann (or maybe even Perreault)
1st

for
Henrique at 50%
Vatrano

It's clear the Rangers have no clue what actually needs to be done which is get a legitimate top 4 D-Man (or two) to replace Trouba and then find an actual goaltender who can stop pucks on a consistent basis (I still think Quick is too old).

Without the willingness to do that, this team won't stand a chance. And I'm like 99% sure they won't move Trouba or bench Igor, so we're screwed.

Nothing else really matters. Would I prefer they keep KK, yes, but is he really a winning piece? I'm doubtful and I'm certain he's not on this team. He's unlikely to be a leading piece on a winning team at this point, although I could definitely see him being a fantastic complimentary one.

At the end of the day, we're heading towards another rebuild, it's just a matter of if, not when. And it's clear that a lot of us (myself included) believed this team was more than it was due to the fluke run they made to the ECF.

I'll root for them to win every damn game as long as there's even a miniscule chance a miracle could occur. But I'm not going to lose sleep over them trading anyone off this roster. Ideally, the sooner the better that they break it down.

The only guys I'd really be upset at this point are Cuylle and a few of the prospects. I'd also keep Fox, although would be curious about the haul he could bring. Other than that, it's whatever.

If we are trading Kakko, I'd run to swap him with Zergas without thinking twice, and you'd be crazy not to. A guy who just put up back to back 60+ point seasons as a 20 and 21 year old on a garbage team. Yea who would want that, he stinks.

But hey, we can just get a garbage rental instead for a season, guess that works too

Because like Kakko he's having an awful year offensively and since people are ready to put Kakko, who at least is contributing defensively and is still good on possession, on a wooden raft and shoot flaming arrows at it, Zegras isn't high on the want list right now.
#runonsentence
You're just trading one disappointment for another though? I'd rather keep Kakko is that's the best Drury could do. I'm not looking to shoot flaming arrows at Kakko, I'm dying to see this kid put it all together but I'm losing faith and don't think they should wait around another bunch of years for him to find it when their window is closing. And it's not just Kakko. Laff, Miller, Chytil have all been different levels and circumstances of disappointment.

It would cost more than just Kakko to get Zegras. Probably add a 1st at the bare minimum.

Absolutely. But it would take much more than Kakko and a 1st to pry Zegras away from Anaheim.

will Detroit be sellers? i hate when people suggest bringing former Rangers back but Copp would be an exception. we know how great he was with Panarin until they both got hurt. Detroit might be looking to get rid of that contract. they would have to retain half probably though.

They need a guy in the top 4 who can actually defend. Getting Lindholm isnt an all-in move if they dont actually go all in

Would need more TBH. Zegras is having an awful season, but people see that he has hit 60 points in his previous two seasons. He's a center under contract for two more years for a very reasonable 5.75 cap hit. And still RFA when his contract expires.

1st
Kakko
Perreault

Could be a start for Anaheim willing to listen without hanging up.

Okay. I think there is a misunderstanding here. I was just replying to EdJo about why there wasn't more talk about Zegras. I certainly do not want to trade Kakko for Zegras. And though I'd love Zegras for the future, at the RIGHT PRICE, he's certainly not getting us out of this year's mess, and so is not a priority at the moment.

Probably although I think Perreault is untouchable at this point outside of an elite talent under team control.

f*** that. Hahahaha.

Why don't we just call up Rempe instead of trading a 1st?
I guessing you’re joking because of your comments on Rempe earlier in the season about him never playing a game in the NHL.
Matt Rempe has 7 goals in 38 games for the Wolf Pack.
In a back to back game against Laval he was tossed in the first few minutes for an illegal hit which turned out was a bad call. He has 90 penalty minutes. He gets close to zero PP time. He also plays on the fourth line with whatever forwards are leftover or called up from the ECHL. He’s defensively responsible, is able to carry the puck up from d-zone to o-zone. Can dump and retrieve and once his line is set-up in the o-zone he stands in front of the net.
Pretty impressive for a player with limited ice time.

The core group is good? The Rangers are keeping this group together forever? You guys make this group sound like the TB Lightning. The team still the same flaws. The team can't get to the net. They team can't defend in front of the net. Let's add more shiny new toys.

The Rangers better find a new way to free up cap space because they will have the same team.

Again of this core Which of those guys are they realistically trading away? You’re in the know. You know how it works. Kreider isn’t being traded away his jersey will most likely be retired. At least not until he’s in his final year maybe. And only if we’re not a playoff team. Mika is not being traded. Panarin is a hart candidate. Fox Trocheck?

Maybe trouba that’s about it and good luck moving that one

That's absolutely disgusting. Imagine selling one of your top prospects, a 1st, and a player you drafted 2nd overall for a UFA 3C and a player you didn't want to sign and let go.

i would straight up just stop watching hockey if they made that trade

If the Rangers offered kakko and a first for those two the ducks would have already done the deal

I think it's because this year he has 7 points and a broken ankle...
Kakko is only scoring .14 PPG less than Zegras while averaging 4 mins less a game (more than 25% less) and no PP time... plus Zegras, as of now, he's still young and should develop a more complete game one would hope, brings ZERO else to the table.
All Zegras has going for him right now is the flashy factor and that he's a center (who in his full seasons has averaged around 40.5% on faceoffs).
That being said, for the right price I'd love to get him. I like the kid, he HAS skill, and he's certainly young enough to get out of whatever is ailing him, but IMO he's been overrated as far as his effectiveness goes and a guy like Kakko (not that you suggested it) would be an overpayment.
Saying Kakko is an overpayment for Zegras is pure homer goggles, if you ran a poll with any neutral fans 100% of people would say Zegras is far better. Kakko wouldn’t even be a significant piece of a trade that brings back Zegras. Zegras was playing injured. Last season Zegras had more points than Kakko’s 2021-22, 2022-23 & 2023-24 seasons combined.

Sure, but that's what Anaheim is and should be asking. Henrique is basically in the same class as Lindholm, a small step bellow. Anaheim would be looking for a late 1st. You want retention? Pay up. Vatrano has been putting up points like Lindholm and Henrique this season. He has 1 more year after this at 3.65, that's pretty good value for a 50/60 point center. That's another 1st. Kakko himself is not worth a first, so you add a prospect that Anaheim would covet. I guess Perreault would be over the top, but Othmann might not be. At the very least it's Sykora.

So yeah, this is what it looks like.

How about neither a rental nor Zegras. Zegras is overrated IMO. One dimensional and 25% of his scoring is on the PP... think he gets that here? Or the amount of time he gets in ANA? Last year in 19 mins a game he had 65 points. 17 on the PP. 41.4% on FO. Perimeter play, no D. Kakko had 40, most at 5v5 with solid D and possession. I think there's a reason Ducks are looking to move on.
Again, I'd take him for the right price of course, I just disagree that that price should be Kakko.
And I doubt it helps us this year, if we got him. Its a move for next season and beyond.

No they wouldn't. They could be looking for a 1st for each of those players. Kakko is not worth a 1st, and retention costs more.
