All I'm saying is, if Drury has a chance to acquire an impact player with term at the cost of Kakko. Do it. Do it twice.

Is Lindholm that guy? I have not watched him a ton but a guy who can put up 60ish points in a role Kakko is putting up hardly any is a massive upgrade based on production. Can he defend (seems like he can), does he play with an edge, etc. I know his underlying #'s have taken a hit recently but losing 2 stars in one offseason (and replacing them with Huberdeau) will do that to a team. I dont think its a homerun, but it would make us a better team. There's probably a better move out there if they stay patient.

Who was it last year (or during the summer) that said Laf is being shopped, and the Rangers denyed it and such a thing never happened?

I'm not saying trading Kakko is unrealistic, or even stupid if it's the right trade. But I have a fear it's going to be something like Kakko and a 2nd for Monahan.

The league is more wide open than it has been for years. You get a hot Shesterkin and Zibanejad unf***s himself a little bit, this team can easily make a big run.
Being shopped and being unavailable are different. I dont know who or who is not being shopped but no current NYR is untouchable imo. If someone calls about Shesty, Fox, Bread, Laf, etc we might say it will take a lot but we would be remiss not to listen to offers.

Ok? The alternative is waiting around for guys to develop into something they probably will never develop into? That's better?
No. For me, there are no untouchable players on the Rangers. Not one. Ok, maybe Fox. The rest you will listen on. Some you listen on more than others. Kakko you would absolutely listen to, and make available if you want to improve the team now.

I just don't think trading Kakko will bring you an impact player with term. Him and a 1st will probably get you a top rental like Lindholm. But if you think you can use Kakko and a 1st to get Zegras, Anaheim laughs.

So TL;DR: yes, you should explore trading Kakko to improve the team. No, I don't think he can return the value that some of you think he will. Thus you have to question, is it better to keep him for the value he brings at his current cap hit.

Why not? They are in purgatory with the cap until the Suter/Parise penalties are gone. They are a bad team again this year. If they can get a former 2nd overall, a 1st rounder and save 2 million on the cap why wouldnt they at least entertain it?
They knew about their cap situation when they signed him to a very team friendly 4M contract, and they know the cap is going up quite a bit next year. They clearly have long term plans for him there whether or not they had a disappointing season so far or not. No chance he is available.

I don't disagree. You're going to hurt yourself with unforced errors by turning the puck over. But why do different systems exist then, if you're implying that systems don't matter? I think you could minimize the number of opposing situations or minimize the damage of a situation, depending on the system you play. There's gotta be contingencies built into systems.

I think they matter less than people think but they’re not a factor when you’re talking about transition defense.

You’re not able to get into your base structure when you turn the puck over like the Rangers do - your forwards need to stop on a dime and back check (which they also collectively do a very poor job of) and try to even up the numbers going the other way.

This is why the suck defending the rush. That and Trouba is a free entry and he plays a ton of minutes.

I thought their effort and details were pretty good early on. They’ve been bullshit over the last month (even in games where they play well) and Igor can’t stop anything that is remotely difficult. It’s a recipe for disaster.

I have seen the Flames many times. There are games where Lindholm isn't on the ice down the stretch. Late at night I like watching the Canucks, OIlers and Flames. Lindholm was a much better player two years ago.

I'm not giving you specific players. I don't know who that guys is, but there's always a guy, multiple guys, available at the deadline. As much as people want to hope and wish Drury convinces Trouba, Kreider, Zib and whoever else to waive this summer because they don't like them, it's not happening. They have another year or two to try and win. You're committed to a bunch of guys over 30, don't half ass it. Try to win. Move players that are disappointments and keep the ones producing. Right now, and I love him, Kakko is a disappointment. If he can get you a better player, either alone or part of a deal, do it. This is what, his fifth year? What are we holding on to?

Fair. I will say that Calgary is a team that got forced into a rebuild essentially against their will, and had a coach all the players hated until this year. I think if you got a guy like Lindholm (or Hanifin who I prefer) out of there and playing for a 1st place team, his game would look a lot better. Who even does play down the stretch for Calgary if it's not Lindholm? Huberdeau and Kadri?

You're preaching to the choir. If they think having Elias Lindholm here in place of Kakko for the next 2-3 seasons (obviously hed be here longer but cross that bridge later) you dont worry that Kakko is a former 2nd OA pick. Pragmatists know hes really just a young pending RFA who has not panned out under 3 coaches. He has value but not a ton.

People back to hoping the team fails so that they can maybe crack a smile to themselves at home and think about how smart they are to be so pissy for so long

Hilarious

For all the maniacs pining for another rebuild, the quickest way to another rebuild is trying to win now.

Surprised there isn’t more talk of the lifelong Ranger fan who’s rumored to be on his way out and happens to be a young center
I think it's because this year he has 7 points and a broken ankle...
Kakko is only scoring .14 PPG less than Zegras while averaging 4 mins less a game (more than 25% less) and no PP time... plus Zegras, as of now, he's still young and should develop a more complete game one would hope, brings ZERO else to the table.
All Zegras has going for him right now is the flashy factor and that he's a center (who in his full seasons has averaged around 40.5% on faceoffs).
That being said, for the right price I'd love to get him. I like the kid, he HAS skill, and he's certainly young enough to get out of whatever is ailing him, but IMO he's been overrated as far as his effectiveness goes and a guy like Kakko (not that you suggested it) would be an overpayment.

The last time people didn’t want to believe Brooks was when he said there was long term concern for Chytil’s career about 3 months ago.

He also whiffed on Kane 11 months ago so there is that.

He also said Stepan wasn't getting traded a few hours before he was moved.

Brooks is solid and I actually believe him here, but he's missed before.

Why are you comparing Kakko to Zegras? Zegras stinks too. The last thing this teams needs is Zegras.

Drury doesn't have to convince Trouba and Kreider to waive this summer.
These guys and their agents know how to work things. They'll give Drury a list of teams they're willing to get traded to and that list will be filled with teams that can't afford their contracts due to cap space. And on top of that, they aren't moving Kreider (why are we moving one of our best, most productive forwards?) and the team captain.

Because like Kakko he's having an awful year offensively and since people are ready to put Kakko, who at least is contributing defensively and is still good on possession, on a wooden raft and shoot flaming arrows at it, Zegras isn't high on the want list right now. I mean, did you read the post (including what I was responding to)? hahahaha.

When he was flanked by two guys having amazing seasons. If you put him in between Panarin and Laf maybe they can come close to the magic that line had but that’s a risk.
