I'm also always tickled by the fact that "softness" becomes the go to complaint when people don't perform.

No one was complaining about how soft Zibanejad was during the 2022 playoffs when he was leading out team in scoring. He wasn't any tougher/grittier during that run.

I think "soft" is probably the wrong word. I don't want a bunch of meat heads...

I do want people that go to the middle of the ice on transitions into the offensive zone. Someone that has the skill and fortitude to cut to the center of the ice rather than the cut to the halfboards... stop... do a 360... and then look for a trailer with a soft pass that gets intercepted. There is FAR FAR FAR too much of this happening.

We have very few personal with the talent and will to skate with the puck between the dots. It's infuriating watching every other team do this... why? Because it's effective.

That's just not how it works. The rebuild stalled because the players they drafted haven't lived up to expectations. We've watched Kakko for like four years now. Like him, think he could be a usefull player but he's never going to become an impact player. If the team has a chance to improve and bring in a player with some term, I'm not holding my breath for Kakko to suddenly find his scoring touch, I'm including him in the deal. Evaluate, adjust and move on. There's no waiting around in this league. Everyone else is trying to get better, the Rangers should be too.
Disagree
He has the tools
He has already demonstrated ability [kid line]
only needs correct linemates, chemistry
that is not on him

Drury is ready to hand over Kakko for even a rental because he doesn't see a future for him here. No sense holding on to romantic thoughts that the team loves him because 2OA reasons. Other GMs may think otherwise and believe they can still make something out of him because insane underlying fancy stats or something, but not Drury. He will forget Kakko just like he's quickly forgotten Nils Lundkvist and is ready to move on even if HFNYR is not.

Drury is ready to clean house after this season and get rid of players with low energy, beta, loser or entitled mindsets.
Drury is ready move on from low energy beta loser players, but just signed zibanejad until the second coming of Christ.

I will say I like the Ryan Hartman suggestion by Larry. 1st and Kakko for a guy under control for 3 seasons beyond this one. He has had some injury issues but a 50-60 point center who pays with an edge is a better fit than trading for and extending Lindholm at a similar cost.

I don't think they need to play 1-3-1. It's not a good system for this group. They have enough trouble with opposing transitions and gaps as it is playing 1-2-2.

I think a 1-3-1 is perfectly fine. Having issues with transition is not a problem with structure normally, its a problem with puck management (Which is a huge issue with this group, especially the top guys. I don't think anyone in the top 6 is good in this regard.)

I laughed at this but it's truly amazing that when Mika signed this contract, he was coming off seasons where he shot every puck he had and shrugged off top defenders with ease. He has become a shrinking violet for whatever reason. If its because he got paid he sadly has shown his true colors.

Wild aren't trading a guy they just re-signed 4 months ago on a contract that hasn't even begun yet.

Yeah, it is. It's just that like you said, the puck management leads to breakdowns of good structure. This group will continue to play a high-risk offensive game. Laviolette won't change this fact. So 1-3-1 only exacerbates this.

Didn't they just sign Hartman?

I don't know exactly what the Wild need either. Despite their horrendous Stramel pick last year they've drafted really well and are loaded at F in the system. I'd imagine they're looking for defense.

Why not? They are in purgatory with the cap until the Suter/Parise penalties are gone. They are a bad team again this year. If they can get a former 2nd overall, a 1st rounder and save 2 million on the cap why wouldnt they at least entertain it?

This board is pretty comical when the team has a long break and then add in the story by the hack Larry Brooks and boom it's crazy land. Some of you are acting like it's more than just attention seeking clickbait by a known clickbait whore who is often wrong. The Rangers are going to make some deadline moves but can we please wait until they are actually a reality before jumping off a ledge because Larry Brooks said it's a possibility. Drury should be taking calls on every single player on the team not named Fox. It doesn't mean that they are all going to be traded.
A Click Master Baiter, even.

Well they are in luck! We have a slightly used Ryan Lindgren (a Minnesota legend) right here in our showroom, Mr. Guerin!

It doesn't matter if you play a 1-3-1, 1-2-2, 2-1-2, 5-0-0 or what ever, if you turn the puck over in the NZ or high in the OZ, you're going to be in trouble.

wonder if there could be some sort of deal to be made with CBJ to get both Roslovic & Chinakhov or maybe Kuraly & Chinakhov, something like that.
I think Columbus has a lot of nice depth pieces that could be poached at the right price with all the turmoil over there. Would be ironic considering the gaborik trade and what that did for the team

The only players we have that can push back defenders and skate between the dots with possession are Kreider (who seems to do it less and less as time goes on) and Cuylle.

Everyone else on this team is a permitter player when they have possession. Laf has learned the Panarin stop and spin-o-rama backhand pass at the blue line far too well for my liking.

That isn't playoff hockey. I hate that that's the go to move for almost every core player we have.

I don't disagree. You're going to hurt yourself with unforced errors by turning the puck over. But why do different systems exist then, if you're implying that systems don't matter? I think you could minimize the number of opposing situations or minimize the damage of a situation, depending on the system you play. There's gotta be contingencies built into systems.

All I'm saying is, if Drury has a chance to acquire an impact player with term at the cost of Kakko. Do it. Do it twice.

Sure. But in what fantasy land is that available?
Everything here is fanstasy land I guess. There's no possible scenario where Kakko, and his 6 whopping points, gets moved or is part of a package to bring back a player in that can help the team win in the next two years.

Impact players with term cost a lot.
