People think Kakko showed up out of shape because he got bodied like a toddler the first 20 games of the year. Couldn't protect the puck vs anyone to save his life.

It's a nice way of excusing some serious beta weenie on ice behavior. Might be true, might not.

Trading Perreault at this point, who is probably arguably a top 5 prospect in thr league right now, May be top 10, along with what he brings to the table would be the most boneheaded move this organization has made in decades.
Gabe is very good but your drinking the kool aid if you rate him a 5OA guy.
Kid was drafted what, 22OA?
Better than that? sure
Rs got a steal? sure

but 50A equiv is pushing it

And again, you guys underrate Sanderson, who would be locked in for his 20s prime on an 8 yr extension.

Hmm, the smoke getting around the media circles

I understand the connections and reasoning of a Kakko to Colorado trade but they’re in the market for a center too so that eliminates a center coming back in the deal. Nicushkin is still out right? Kakko would be kind of a replacement at the moment so that eliminates a rw coming back in a trade. They would have to send back a d but I doubt Byram gets traded. Sam Girard is 5 feet tall and I wouldn’t want someone like that for the playoffs.
This. There's no one on Colorado's roster, and no combination of players on Colorado's roster, that could provide equal value in return for Kakko.

Byram can't stay healthy. Nichushkin can never seem to play a full season. The Eagles look like what Hartford looked like a few seasons ago - lots of AHL lifers, non-prospects, a couple of fringe prospects who can't seem to take the next step, and a few former college players who are now in their mid 20s and still looking to make their mark.

Only way I do that is if Colorado is looking to move someone from their core which I highly doubt, and throws in a pick to compensate us for the fact we're getting older and taking on cap.

Serious question: was Dreger ever a big name to get rumors from? I remember like a decade ago, I used to consider him to be one of the more reliable guys, but that could have just been reputation from trade deadline coverage.

Maybe Kakko will use this as motivation. Organization lighting a fire under him. It’s not too late for him to solidify himself as a long term piece. You could say that about a lot of guys on the roster imo. I’m very curious to see how they respond out of the break. The collective group has a month to convince management, and us lol. I think significant moves are coming one way or the other. We all know they can’t keep this group together forever

People calling about Kakko is NOT the same as Drury shopping him. It shows that there is interest in Kakko, that he has some value around the league, especially if teams think we may be stupid or desperate enough to sell low on him.
And Drury SHOULD take calls on Kakko and EVERY other player. Even Fox, if EDM is bringing McDavid to the table. NO ONE is totally untouchable. it would be irresponsible and a dereliction of duty to “refuse” calls.
I think it’s probably the other way around. Can’t imagine many GM’s knocking the door down for Kakko at this moment. I think it’s more plausible that Drury is using the media to put out a “for sale” sign. Doesn’t mean he’ll sell low (I pray), but this was always a make or break season for Kakko. Laf took up most of the oxygen in that convo, but it was always Kakko IMO and he hasn’t taken that next step.

For the record, I’d rather keep Kakko unless it’s a clear cut Drury fleece job.

Motivation was never his problem.

KK for Georgiev confirmed...

I find it very hard to believe this story about us actively shopping Kakko. Trading him just created another hole in the lineup. Unless the Rangers are trading Kakko for a significant player like Keller it’s not happening.

What a mess this rebuild wound up being.

They were on a really exciting track a few years ago, and now they’re talking about trading a #2OA Draft Pick, they have a fragile core, and their cap situation is a mess.

That kinda sounds like most rebuilds, where they don't work (winning the SC) or at least don't work fully, especially the first time.
We made two ECFs with the old core, went the 'rebuild' route, and have currently made 1 with this core. It is entirely possible that we make at least one more, while just 'tinkering' with the rebuild rather than fully starting over.

Yeah there's no Cup, but since (and including) 201; while 23 teams have made the final 4 at least once, only 1 team has had more Conference Final appearance than us (Tampa) and Vegas has the same no.
We can't get over the hump (which is basically the entire history of the Rangers in a nutshell), which really sucks, but objectively over the last decade or so we've done better than most, including with this 'rebuild'.

That’s good. I want either a big time move or none at all. Picking up bottom 6 depth doesn’t move my needle

I’m on the other side of the fence. Not even Connor McDavid could put this team over the top if Igor doesn’t pull his head out of his ass. It literally all hinges on him. Not the time to go all in. Dig around the bones and leverage b tier prospects and late picks to duct tape weak points in the roster.

If Igor goes lights out in February, it’s a different story however.

So rebuilding half the team is what you’re saying? lol
What else are you gonna do when you desperately want to be buyers but also need a massive shakeup?

Drury is gonna take his 1994 swing. Except in this case the team is nowhere near ready for that and I’m not sure there will even be a consistent theme to what we’re getting back.
