I don't see how it makes sense to trade Kakko. Trading him for a rental would be insanely dumb and I don't see him carrying enough value for a "significant piece" whatever that means given he's on pace for 18 points over 82 games this season. Not to mention you're depleting an already weak right side. At this point, I would say his value is more to the team than his trade value.

Trading Kakko doesn't seem smart unless that significant piece is a young player we know we can lock up for at least 5 years. Can't really think of any players that fit that description. Cozens is not available. The other side of players you can acquire are gonna be like 1-2 years away from UFA so that would be really bad asset management.

Value doesn't fluctuate as much as people seem to think it does.

Sure, there's always one sucker that overpays for a guy shooting 20+% and he's universally panned immediately.

For the most part, other GM's think what they think about Kakko. He's been around a bit at this point.

I would part with him for Hanifin or a center of similar ilk. Somebody we can sign who makes the team a lot better.

He's not one of the guys I want to trade because him just not being here is an improvement.

If it’s coming from the TSN talking heads it’s probably just media back and forth with Montreal and Gorton. Monahan, Drury/Gorton beef, now Kakko on the block. None of that sounds like it is coming from the Rangers side imo. Teams are trying to take advantage of Drury’s desperation. I would hold for now.

I would be fine with that, but seems like Laviolette is reluctant to break up that 4th line. I would have no problem with Brodzinski as the permanent 4th line center either.
