Could this actually fit under the cap? It would obviously require shedding a ton of Draft picks in order to do so…

Cannot trade Kakko for rentals. Outside of Dowd, they are all rentals and Kakko no way in hell should be traded for a bottom 6 veteran.

I think Kakko is part of that larger deal for Lindholm. If it’s him or the ‘24 1st round pick going the other way, I’d rather keep the pick. And given Calgary’s inability to sign players, I think they’d want Kakko over the pick too.

Would it suck to lose Kakko for a rental? Probably. But we also need to be realistic about his value at this point. You have to give to get, and if you don’t want to give the 1st rounder it’s likely gotta be him.
 
Outside of Byram I dont really see a fit from Colorado.

Byram was a beast for colorado after girard went down in the 2022 playoffs but he hasn't been able to get back to that level since.

Laviolette had RyJo in Nashville, and he has not worked out for the Avs. Rangers need a center too. That could be something weird

I suggested Kakko for Byram last week when it was reported that the Avs GM was scouting us.

I don’t think I could make that trade anymore, given what just happened to Chytil. Byram has sustained three concussions already, one of which forced him to take time off from hockey.

It does give some credence to it's not just Chytil's money that they are using to upgrade. Sadly, if they had bought out Goodrow, they'd have that space.

Hard no on that. He's lost steps and is a 3C, but not for Kakko.

I think it might be Girard. Lindgren becomes available and can be used to get assets for other deals or another hockey trade.

If anyone thinks Drury wouldn't be dumb enough to empty the cupboard for Lindholm, just remember he gave Buchnevich away. He hired Gallant. He gave Zib a lifetime NMC. He gave Goodrow a 6 year deal at a premium cap hit to boot. He gave Nemeth a horrendous deal, then paid 2 2nd rounders in less than 12 months to clear the contract. He's exhausted the cupboard two years and running on rentals, and last year he did it when apparently he and the team didn't even believe in the coach they had.

What you are witnessing is how to ruin a franchise in real time. All hope hinges on a mopey non-1C in Zib, a guy who has sucked in the playoffs every year for us in Panarin, Igor somehow re-finding his form, and whatever shit Drury overpays for at the deadline. This is either going to turn into a lucky, blissful, euphoric experience, or the kind of GMing job that goes in the "How Not to GM 101" handbook. There's no in between.

He was boys w nonis and would get info from him. Since he was fired, dreger's sources have been pretty thin. The tsn boys all want to be Bobby Mac but none are even close

If they go all in I blame Dolan and not Drury. Drury is going to do whatever Dolan tells him just like he did w Kane last year.
 
Lindholm is so overrated, I’m going to hate giving up a 1st+ for him. I know it’s a thin market but there are better ways to improve this club than going after the most noteworthy name and paying an exorbitant price.
