Nico Sturm? Is Mike Grier on speaking terms with Drury? Chris has more enemies than friends in the NHL.

Sturm has another season remaining at $2M. Very good on draws. One more season remaining.

Montreal hates Drury. Columbus probably hates Drury too.

The Sharks have tons of cap space. Would Grier take Goodrow in the deal? Goodrow started his career in SJ.

Radek Faksa. One year season at $3.25M. Pete DeBoer knows Goodrow from SJ. The Rangers retain the difference on Goodrow. $3,641,667. Dallas adds two more seasons.

What would Grier want for Sturm? Grier's trades have been underwhelming as Sharks GM. Can the Rangers handle a $2M bottom six/4th line center? Sharks only have one more retention slot left.
Sturm is a guy I like if they can make it work

3C options with term that you'd be comfortable moving a 1st for?
None... Any 3c with term that could be had for a first round pick doesn't move the needle.

We're talking players with inflated stats because they play the PP on their non playoff team roster... Which they wouldn't do here.

If they are any good and have term, then it'll cost more than a first.

As Brooks said, this team isn't good enough to throw away the future.

Anyone who thought offering up EITHER a 1st or a blue chip prospect for either player should find another way to spend their time.

Either option is brutal for the NYR
"but there is nothing over the last 25 games that indicates this team should go all-in."

Well actually, there is a whole lot of something over the past several decades to indicate the team will go all in and salvage our future.

Idk if the Rangers can get a guy like Dowd or Sturm without parting with a 1st. I personally would not have a problem doing that for Dowd, but im sure others will. Vince mentioned Yanni Gourde today, if he's available and you can get him at half salary for this year and next its certainly worth parting with a first. I know its been discussed that he has not looked as good in Seattle, but he is their 1C and would be our 3C. Id bet on him looking better in the role hes suited for. Veteran, clutch performer and plays with the edge we need. Staple and Vince have both mentioned him in articles that have primarily been discussing rentals, take that for what its worth.

Sturm was acquired by the Avs from Minnesota for Tyson Jost. Garth Joy was part of the Avs front office when that trade was made. Joy is now the Rangers director of pro scouting. Sturm played in 13 playoff games for Avs in their Cup season.

Sturm is in the Coleman/Goodrow mold. As is Dowd. That's where I would be focusing in trades.

Thats exactly why he shouldnt be standing pat.
So your position is that they should trade any hope of getting out of this quagmire of mediocrity to make this team not as good as the previous team that was shown a first round exit?

I don't know how to rebut that. We just fundamentally disagree with how to win.

So the only way out of the "quagmire of mediocrity" (we've been a top 5 (happy now?) team in the East the past 3 seasons) is to keep draft picks that wont become anything for 3 years minimum? I'm not sure I'm following that logic either.

The team is in first place despite being mediocre for 2 months, they are in a Cup window with this core, and you cant move any of them until the summer anyway. Im not saying trade 1sts for rentals like the clownish beat writers have suggested, but you need to make a move or 2 to help the team out. You dont just punt on the season in a weak Metro division and Eastern Conference. The team needs a 3C and another defenseman.

What?

Last season (2022-2023) they were not a top 3 team in the East.
The previous season (2021-2022) they were not a top 3 team in the East.
The previous previous season (2020-2021) they were not a top 3 team in the East.

I can certainly rebut outright fallacies.

Also let's not forget... there is whole other conference that exists on top of that.

We haven't been a top 3 team in the east since 2015

Im including this year but fine. Top 5 is a better description. I didnt have time to do the actual math.

Its just astounds me that at the first sign of adversity this team has had in the regular season since covid, the first reaction is to rebuild again. Why not, you know, make some moves that would improve the team? If youre so obsessed with draft picks, theyll get more back when they clean out some guys this summer. The black and white "All-in or Rebuild" thinking here is illogical. Hoarding assets guarantees you nothing.

Ill correct it to say top 5 in the East, which we have been. Its semantics. We arent in a quagmire of mediocrity lol.

Fill in the ? With good role players.

If the team again falters - retool a bit in the offseason

Maybe doing a bit of unexpected moves.

Either Henrique or Monahan would make a difference. They're both NHL players which we currently don't possess in that spot.

My problem with them is that they both suck defensively which makes an existing issue worse, and more importantly, they both have big names so they're going to cost way more than they should.
