Monahan would be an awful fit.

So would tarasenko.

Honestly Henrique is the only rental forward who is kind of a fit.

The FO should let the next month play out before doing anything. If this team can’t put it together they shouldn’t be adding at all.

I’d take Henrique, Sturm, Bjugstad, Duclair out of UFA to be. That is it. But I rather deal for someone like Jack McBain. Rather get a younger player who is RFA and won’t cost much cap wise. McBain reminds me of a grittier Brian Boyle.

C Jack McBain to Rangers
2ed in 24 and 4th in 25 to Coyotes

The team to deal with is Buffalo and we should try to get both Girgensons and Okposo. Both are expiring contracts that we can afford and strong defensive players at positions we need. Shouldn't cost a ton as they aren't big time offensive guys.

Always liked Okposo, was a solid player for the Islanders. Can he still skate though? Rangers do need to get a bit more quicker. I like Gtigensons, underrated but isnt he more like a 4th liner for the Sabres? I could be wrong

Yea, Girgensons is very poor offensively but he's a really good defensive player and would help there. He's a lot better than the other guys they've been rolling out at 3C/4C. He could play the role they tried to have Bonino play but actually do it well. Okposo is still decent offensively, good defensivel but yea he's slow. He'd help with depth scoring though.

I don’t see the role for Girgensons with Goodrow still on the roster. I’d like someone with more offense than he has as the 3rd line center.

If we make the assumption that FIL won't be back by October, we could actually acquire a center that isn't a rental. If we get a guy with a year and a half left, we put FIL on LTIR in October and deal with the consequences when FIL comes back. Haven't other teams done that?

Drury should be proceeding like that's the case anyway..If Fil does make it back, work out the cap issues at that point. For now he needs to operate like Fil is done, unfortunately.

So, like I said, the replacement center doesn't need to be a rental.

This allows Drury the rare ability to add a player or two with decent cap hits whereas many other contenders will need retention. Something to consider.

Moving forward the team needs a RW and possibly a center even next year so finding someone who can stick around after this year would be smart.

I brought up Hayes and I really don’t think that’s a bad idea. Cost will be minimal likely and he’s on pace for about 40 points. 6’5 and uses his reach well. 3 years left on a deal that has $3.75m left. St Louis is likely rebuilding so perhaps they are good moving him and they like big d-men. Robertson?

Isn't the cap supposed to go up around $4M next season? If that is true, we don't need to worry about cap consequences. Of course, it would be more of a moot point if Drury follows thru and sends Trouba and/or Kreider packing for additional space.

You wish!

I dream of them having a good team that you could have confidence in and are fun to watch. Just like every other curmudgeon on this board. I don't think this team is it, but doesn't mean I don't want them to win. Holy shit I want to be wrong.
Calling them a WC1 or 2 says something else

The problem with Hayes is the Blues are in a playoff spot, they won't get much for him, and probably don't want to retain 3.5M for 3 years. Ignoring that, he'd be a good fit.

His contract is already retained half so they would only have to eat half of that.

Missed that part of it. Still the same issue of them being in a playoff spot and it's not really worth trading him for a mid round pick. I don't think they can really rebuild all their best players are signed long term. Parayko, Krug, Faulk, Schenn, Thomas, Kryou all make 6.5M+ for at least 4 more years. Think they'd be more likely to add than subtract based on where they are and what the organization looks like.
