They are in 1st place lol
Maybe they can bounce back and go on another strong run ? How is that a crazy thought if they add depth ?

No team does what you suggest ever that’s facts.
Irrelevant
overall, my track record demonstrates
if they did what I suggested, while it might not immediately = instant gratification, long view we would be better off

Nic dowd come on down! Rangers trading a 1st for 2 years of Dowd retained at league minimum will be hated by everyone here but is actually good business. In before @Machinehead shows us a chart that says he sucks. All I know is that he kills us and plays with an edge

i read your posts in ben shapiros voice (not a good thing)

Rangers should have taken a chance on Parise
How do you know he wanted to come here?

He is chasing a cup and the Avalanche are much better than the Rangers are. Same as Perry going to the Oilers.

This team does not have many route to improve. I wish they would blow it up, but they can’t really do that either

Like Bonino's blocked shots or faceoffs? And Goodrow's muh gritz?
Unironically, somewhere between sort of and pretty much.

The 23/24 version of Bonino is worth adding in training camp at close to minimum and see if he helps your 4th line with faceoffs and shot-blocking. God help you if you play him on the 3rd line, though. Wait, what? He did? For HOW long??

Goodrow's a good soldier. Just under $3m for 3 years would have been fine, but I never understood the term on that one. He was a "nearly 30pt Swiss army knife 3rd liner" when we got him, and he broke 30 twice so far. But this season he's been basically the same as "fringe NHLer Nick Bonino."

Vesey is an exceptional 4th liner that slots up well, and the fancy stats bear that out.

Pitlick has been slightly better than 21 or 12, but he's still a 12/13 F in my eyes. He has some okay metrics but he's not a C, so he's a worse Vesey I guess?

There are so many flavors of stats that "matter." Some say "only team wins matter." Of course, but individual stats do matter. But are they 5v5 or PP? Well, what about xG instead of G? CF%? Posts hit? The eye test?

They all create a context. Even a dumb stat like plus/minus can mean something in context with other stats like team averages, their goalies' stats, raw offensive output meaning you can shift the onus onto other players.

So yes, even InTaNgIbLeS. You just can't rely on too many of those guys, and you certainly can't pay them for 6 years at >$1m more than they're worth when they're close to 30. Oopsie. =P

with chytil’s situation the no brainer signing this offseason is max domi. Solid 3C and brings some MUCH NEEDED juice to the locker room. This team is DEAD.

I’ll be really pissed if Drury wastes assets to try to help this team. I get it he’s probably got a lot of pressure from Dolan so he’s going to want to save his own ass but Drury needs to realize this team ain’t going anywhere and needs to be restructured. I wouldn’t wait till the summer, I’d try and move some guys now.

Goodrow to the sun.

Trouba to Detroit with a bit of money retained for a couple of day 2 draft picks

Lindgren to Arizona for Barrett Hayton and our 2024 2nd back.

Shesterkin to Ottawa for Shane Pinto and 2024 1st.

NYR 2024 1st to Boston for Jeremy Swayman.

I'd look to trade a prospect or two to get Frank Vatrano back.

Sign a 4C that can actually skate.

Chytil retires or LTIR

That leaves about 6 or 7 million by my math to get two more defensemen to replace Lindgren and Trouba besides using kids or vets on league min to fill out the rest.

That's probably about as big of a turnover you'll get this summer.

Bigger decisions on Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider and Kakko get deferred to 2025.

It’s all just window dressing until we address the issue at 1C

If it's one year for similar to his current salary, then I'm into it. He's just not a guy I'd bet on outside of one year, maaaybe two. For this year, I'd do a 5th or something, but I wouldn't spend actual draft capital or prospects on him.

Just do us a favor and rip-off the bandaid and rebuild.

Trade Kreider, Zibanejad, and Trouba. This core ain’t gonna get it done. Trade Shesty too because very few goalies are worth more that $6 million and he isn’t one of them.

Fox is only 25. Schneider, Cuylle, Laf, Kakko are 23 and under. I’m not sure wtf Miller is, but he’s young too. Obviously we can’t keep all of these young guys, but they should still be valuable pieces for trades. Maybe a truly elite center becomes available for trade in the coming 2-3 years.

Perrault looks promising. Edstrom, Berard, Sykora all look like they have some bottom 6 potential.

With really good decisions, we should be able to retool quickly.

I don't disagree, but that contract is just that toxic right now. No one is going to want it and the player isn't going to waive his NMC.

If I'm elected Supreme Leader of the Rangers, this is my 2024-25 opening night lineup

Panarin-Zibanejad-Lafreniere
Kreider-Trochek-Kakko
Hayton-Pinto-Vatrano
Vesey-Edstrom-Cuylle

Miller-Fox
UFA-Schneider
UFA-UFA

Swayman
Quick (I bring him back for one more year if he wants)

The defense is going to be totally reconstructed. Gustafsson wouldn't be the worst to bring back. I'm scouting Joel Edmundson, Dylan Damelo, Derek Forbort, Matt Roy, Justin Schultz, Gus Forsling, and Sean Walker to fill the two other spots with 3 or 4 year deals. There's literally nothing in the farm that will be ready before the end of those contracts. Fortescue has the best shot but he's three years away at least. He's a 3 year college player, IMO.

Big money in Panarin and Zibanejad can be moved if Pettersson or McDavid are available.

IF he’d agree to 5 X $3.5 idk how you say no. Hes worth more than that though

Your post begins with Zibanejad has a NMC and can’t be moved and ends with Zibanejad can be moved if Pettersson or McDavid are available.

And?

You can make his life miserable into submission until he waives. That's not going to happen overnight.

In my fever dream scenario you quoted, I can see Pinto outplaying Zibanejad and getting promoted on merit as soon as next year with he and Trochek being 1A and 1B while Zibanejad gets demoted to 3rd line and off the 1st PP unit.

Replacing Lindgren and Trouba with Hanifan and someone like Demelo or Schultz would be massive upgrades on defense. Even just going as far as Edmundson and Schultz to kick the van down the road a couple of years.

I get the sense that any trade of Trouba would have cap coming back. Assume it’s Detroit and it’s likely Kostin + Holl + picks. Lindgren for Hayton + pick. Sign Perron. He won’t be expensive and plays with passion.

Hanafin is going to cost too much. $7 million plus/year. They need to be smart since they'll have about that amount to fill 2 or 3 defensive vacancies. They can't blow it all on one player. Another 7 year contract is the last thing this team needs. Hanafin is not the player to move heaven and earth to accommodate.

Pass on Perron. The Rangers are overloaded on the wing as is and the player is cooked at that. Wouldn't mind Kostin or Holl.
