But what does a Parise that can’t skate look like compared to 2024 Wheeler or Goodrow? Still gotta be an upgrade. He can't skate anymore.
Would have been perfect.
Do we need to remind ourselves the tough situation Drury was in this summer to fill out the roster with minimum cap space? He resigned Chytil, Lafreniere and Miller to very reasonable deals. Then he went out and signed up a bunch of UFAs on basically minimum contracts. Mid season through we can say that Quick and Gustafsson exceeded their expectations, Pitlick met and Wheeler and Bonino underperformed. Given how goalie and defense are more important than bottom-6 forwards, I’d say on the whole these signings are still a win.
Or because he didnt want 7 years of a dead cap hit. Thats my guess. With that said, if hes bought out after this season the only really bad year cap hit wise is 26-27 when itd be about $3.5Prob shouldn’t neglect to mention the fact that he chose not to buy out a guy 2 coaches have decided is a 4th liner, with a cap hit of $3.6M, whose buyout would have resulted in a cap CREDIT this year.
Because Drury either somehow thinks he is a good player or doesn’t want to look bad and admit a mistake he made.
Another possibility- maybe the thread math is bad.Prob shouldn’t neglect to mention the fact that he chose not to buy out a guy 2 coaches have decided is a 4th liner, with a cap hit of $3.6M, whose buyout would have resulted in a cap CREDIT this year.

He's looked competent on that line. He hasn't looked capable of carrying a line. Let's not too far ahead. He's been the worst of the 3 on that line. That's not a knock because the other 2 have been really good. Laf is moving his feet and taking more chances with control of the puck. That's great to see. But 1 step at a time here.Ideally because he’s looked capable of actually carrying a line offensively now, and we have another line that’s struggling to carry its own weight offensively, and removing him from his current line won’t make that line stagnant.
Forgot to mention that prior to his jaw injury that he’s been playing through, the designated 4th line was actually asked to perform as de facto 3rd and it was the only other acceptably functioning line?Prob shouldn’t neglect to mention the fact that he chose not to buy out a guy 2 coaches have decided is a 4th liner, with a cap hit of $3.6M, whose buyout would have resulted in a cap CREDIT this year.

Heh?
I'm probably way off base here, but would Jones/Robertson, a 2nd or a 3rd & a goalie prospect (Garand or Ollas) for Kaliyev make sense? Outside of Clarke I don't believe they have a lot of upside D prospects, I don't see any G prospects and they can get a pick to potential flip for a rental. NYR get a young RW who has a shoot first mentality. NYR can move Wheeler down to a 4th line role and then give another player a shot w/KZ or could play with Cuylle & Chytil.
I get that, and it makes sense for NYR esp cause it gives Othmann/Berard to get a shot for RW next season. I just don't see it moving the needle for LAK. They have a pretty stack forward group and then still have Turcotte, Thomas, Helenius and some more in the AHL as well as Hughes and a lot of other FWD prospects in dev leagues. Also I do think KK if he's moved is an off season move, if they keep KK it at least gives them RW depth for this season in case of injuries.Realistically Kakko for Kaliyev is probably the move for both sides. Change of scenery for both. Kaliyev spent his childhood in Staten Island.
The only issue with Kaliyev is he is the exact type of player coaches dislike and constantly demote/scratch so if a GM is trading for him he better have a serious conversation with the coach first and make sure he's actually going to use him and not bench/scratch him after the first bad play. He's also a really good PP scorer and that's not a role he'd have here.
That’s selling on Kakko way lower than I’d ever like to.Realistically Kakko for Kaliyev is probably the move for both sides. Change of scenery for both. Kaliyev spent his childhood in Staten Island.
Feels like a guy who has Mike Hoffman's career arc. Without whatever the off the ice stuff with Ottawa was.

Chytil = YESWith Chytil out we are basically a worse version of the pre-Skjei trade 2019-20 team, expecting more than .500 is optimistic.
We need Chytil back and to put Vesey on any of the top 3 lines over one of Cuylle/Wheeler.
Jones can go + we can talk other assets, pref a vet F, but no on Robertson and Garand is a legit heir when we move to sell high on shesty, hell noI'm probably way off base here, but would Jones/Robertson, a 2nd or a 3rd & a goalie prospect (Garand or Ollas) for Kaliyev make sense? Chytil can be a plus for us when he returns but 2 points to consider. One he is coming back from a long layoff so not sure how effective he will be. Second he also has a penchant for disappearing for long stints. Believe last year he was basically invisible last third of the season. Believe he had something like 6 goals in the last 40 games and was a non factor in the Playoffs. Point is he is not a savior as many think he is. A help yes but not a major cure all. With Chytil out we are basically a worse version of the pre-Skjei trade 2019-20 team, expecting more than .500 is optimistic.
