Hate to burst people's bubbles but Kakko and Lafreniere aren't getting moved. Kakko because his value has never been so low and Lafreniere because he's finally turned a corner. I think we're about to see a potential changing of the guard if Cuylle Chytil and Kakko form a line. That line will undoubtedly outplay Mika's line, how long can you force that line out there if the other one is better.

Lafreniere has looked pretty darn good this season. Why exactly are we looking to move him into a worse situation and line?
Ideally because he’s looked capable of actually carrying a line offensively now, and we have another line that’s struggling to carry its own weight offensively, and removing him from his current line won’t make that line stagnant.

I didn't hate the Bonino signing, same goes for Wheeler, it's just time for some fresh legs and some energy to be injected into the lineup.
The Bonino signing was years too late, and came at a time where we aren't playing fast enough to overcome slow players in the lineup. But at the end of the day, it's cap you throw away and replace with somebody else to fill the spot.

I will continue to say it as long as its suggested.

Vatrano would be a horrendous add. Tarasenko too.

If you want a forward with term left who is actually good/fits, see what it would take to get Magiapane out of Calgary.

Chychrun would be great if i were more confident in his ability to stay healthy.

Waive Goodrow.

That is all.
I’d love the breadeater

But I think he’s a guy Calgary would want to hold onto

Are you referring to my post about moving him off Panarin line?

Do we need to remind ourselves the tough situation Drury was in this summer to fill out the roster with minimum cap space? He resigned Chytil, Lafreniere and Miller to very reasonable deals. Then he went out and signed up a bunch of UFAs on basically minimum contracts. Mid season through we can say that Quick and Gustafsson exceeded their expectations, Pitlick met and Wheeler and Bonino underperformed. Given how goalie and defense are more important than bottom-6 forwards, I’d say on the whole these signings are still a win.

I would say it’s getting late early for all of Goodrow, Lindgren and Kakko, feels like they could all be gone this summer.

Lindgren has one year of control left, it seems insane to extend him. Goodrow should been gone last summer for the buyout credit.

Kakko has now been replaced by the corpse of Wheeler twice. He’s headed towards a 1 year settlement via arbitration or settled before, he will have only one year of control left after next season before he’s a UFA.

I mean its funny, when the coach doesn't change a stagnant line, the argument is "whats the worst that can happen" and we all sorta yell at them.
When the discussion flips around to, well this player might also do well in a different opportunity and it might deepen the roster, we scream "why change something thats fine"

I also recall how puzzling it was when Gallant moved Kakko away from Panarin - Trocheck last season when he actually looked good there. So why trying to put him there now to set the same spark that lighten Lafreniere is bad?!?! Similarly most folks were actually advocating for Lafreniere to be RW with Kreider - Zibanejad. If anything it's even more important now and Lafreniere is actually expected to turn that line's fortunes at last this season.

...
Wheeler is really the only one who has been worse than expected.
In part because he has been used (and at this point is probably also more capable) as a center Brodzinski should be in the lineup over Wheeler (leaving other options / issues on a side):
Cuylle - Chytil - Vesey
Goodrow - Brodzinski - Pitlick

Cuylle and Kakko got the worst of it when Chytil went down.
But yeah having Chytil back in opens up that third line, and as others have said, it might actually end up quickly being better than 20-93-17, and Lavi can and will run a hot hand.

My "I know I am overthinking this" theory from last game is that Lav (and maybe Drury) aren't really moving Goodrow off the 4th line like has been done previously when there have been holes to fill, to send a clear message that he's not in the future plans and that maybe he should think very carefully about who is on his No Trade list

It's gotta be in Kreider and Zibanejad's contracts that they play no less than 90% of their ES minutes on the same line as each other.

I have no problem with a GM throwing haymakers or potentially savvy signings in the off-season, especially with a limited budget. Ideally they don't sign plugs and washed up players but at league minimum, it's worth the risk so long as the GM is also willing to do what Drury did here and realize it didn't work, waive them and move on. It's when coaches latch on to a guy and management doesn't do anything about it that it makes signings like this tough to stomach.

lavi is galaxy braining this because he doesn't want to play Kreider with brodz or goodrow.

Goodrow sucks balls but the one game he and Kreider played together, Kreider was actually good.

Does Parise have anything left in the tank? He had 21 goals last year. I’d take him at league minimum over some of our bottom 6 trash.

Kreider would be good with with me at C and a fire hydrant at RW which says a ton of nice things about Mika Zibanejad.
