Last year everyone complained we had 18 forwards and it was too much depth and what would we do with all the extra players. Now we have too few players and who will we get to fill in the last spots?

Not sure why Puempel with a full offseason to train can't be a top-12 forward option.

Nieves by all observations would seem to be ready for a depth role on the 4th line.

Go sign someone like Chiasson and see if they can make him into this years Grabner/Pouliot.

Gorton has said the team will be younger this upcoming season.

Girgensons would probably play LW, they only have 11 forwards listet on capfriendly.

Blueliners they added Scandella, Antipin and Beaulieu with Ghule probably starting in the AHL, so not sure that is really a need.

It's tough to say, they need a lot more up front to be a play off team and their D is pretty weak relatively speaking.

Timmy Murray for all his praise made some terrible moves and did not build through the draft.

Their top 4 is middling, and I'm very high on McCabe. I think he's got some solid upside.

Their biggest issue is all the bad trades they made and no way to backfill. So if they end up as a defense first team (they'll need to be with that goaltending), and count on their top 6 to score... they may be alright as a 11th or 12th seed.

But all in all they aren't a team that will be making a dent. Especially with the roster not liking EKane.

Another disaster of a year lays ahead for BUF.

If there is a good low buy center out there from COL, it would be Joe Colborne.

They need defense... not sure if they'd take Holden back after moving him (they should, he's better than what they have)... but Colborne could be had for a mid round pick.

HFD needs a vet, but I'd move Nieves + Kampfer for him.

Second buyout window starts in about 10 hours, Rangers will have until Sunday morning to announce any buyout of Staal
(I think Gorts waits at least one more year, unless he can pull a Gomez)

Seems like management is high on guys like Nieves and Fontaine making the team.

I think we should see at least two depth forwards added before training camp, but the above could explain the lack of urgency in that department.

Could be, but I think standard procedure is that, in that case, still get a couple of bodies and let the kids beat out those guys. Like Fontaine, I don't think anyone can count on him going directly to the NHL and perform well. Normally you still get like a Chris Mueller and if Fontaine is ready, great dump the "Mueller" in the AHL.

I think that even if Nieves and one of the college kids we signed as UFAs or Fontaine is ready -- we are still thin on depth.

There's a difference between having depth and having top end talent.

We have one and not enough of the latter.

I tried to say that often last year. Top 6 guys (especially top 3 guys) are so much more important to me. I feel you can always find 4th liners.

I mean I think it's always helpful to have 4th liners who are good players and not just crappy punch guys or players who will get pinned in their own zone every time they step on the ice, but since you're not playing them a ton of minutes per game it's not like they have to be bigtime scorers

unless the rangers NEED the cap space for a center, id say just keep Staal...

of course, this would be assuming we didnt have a head coach with severe mental issues...but, since we do...i guess we gotta buy him out?

Does a Staal buyout even give us much relief for the remainder of buyout?

would any of you entertain moving rick nash for cap room and a high pick and then signing jagr on a one year show me deal and adding another centerman with the addl cap left over ?

is that crazy ?

Rather buy Staal out and sign Jagr or get a C.

jagr will get you 40 points in his sleep and play his puck skills keep away game better than most other forwards at any age.

dude was productive last season at 44 yrs old. in fact, played 82 games and out scored nash. inc 8 ppg.

i take a flyer on him for sure.

Rangers are a speed team, Jagr has no place here
