Not sure if you misread, i'd love Jagr signed, just doesn't have to be at the expense of Nash :)

no i got you. :)

im trying to find space for both of them and i really dont see it.

my preference would be to add JJ and another center with the money and add a nice prospect or pick rather than just keep nash.

staal doesnt seem like he's moveable and the buyout is too punitive.

i can live with staal on the 3rd pair and the occasional healthy scratch.

Jimmy and Kevin being best of friends is one of those odd combinations that somehow works.

I told you how, buy Staal out and we can easily fit Jagr in there.

Jagr has such a high hockey IQ that he can play a fast game even if his feet don't move fast. I doubt the speed of our game would be too high for him.

would any of you entertain moving rick nash for cap room and a high pick and then signing jagr on a one year show me deal and adding another centerman with the addl cap left over ?

is that crazy ?

The main issues with the idea IMO are:

1. Jagr is not a quick skater and this whole team plays a speed game.

2. What solid center could we get for just cap space? For anyone worth anything, we'd also have to move another valuable asset to attain the center.

It's still a square peg/round hole issue.

I think Jagr could work. It's not like Hayes or Stepan are/were fast skaters either. With the right linemates you could avoid the downsides of having a slow skater. If he puts up 40+ points and spends more time on offense than defense is it still a bad fit?

I'd be far more suspicious of his asking price than his actual play

He's slower than both at this point. Personally, I don't think he puts up much more than 30 points with the Rangers. Could be wrong. Just an opinion of course. And that's actually okay for a 3rd liner, but I don't really want the distraction I feel like Jagr brings with him for 3rd line production.

having all 4 lines being exactly the same isn't necessarily a good thing either

This, the Rangers already have too many of the same kind of forwards, I wouldn't mind Jagr adding some size and puck possession on a show me like 1 year deal. no problem with it at all. This only happens though if they're moving Miller back to center.

No, it just opened i think, not 100% on the timeline, open for 48 hours.

It opens 72 hours after the last arbitration RFA is signed and is open for 48 hours.

Edit: I'll just leave this here anyway incase anyone else was unsure, it's about the second buyout window.

Yea I went back a page and saw someone else address it

Rangers are a speed team, Jagr has no place here

You can play in a speed system without actually being fast.

Plus, having a 3rd line with Jagr on it that dominated possession would be a great change of pace and matchup nightmare for other teams.

Jagr would be a great winger if Andersson is going to earn 3C.

Jagr would be fine on most teams. It just comes down to what the AAV is. Every Jagr contract in the last two years plus any future ones would have to factor in the risks of a sharp decline at age 45 or 46 in February. Can't pay the Jaromir Jagr HOF price while also taking on the risks of decline when we have basically just enough cap space for one needed forward depth move.

whats your guys thoughts on Mike Fisher? hes still a FA, can skate fairly well, pk's etc

He's good, but pretty sure i've read he's pretty much deciding between Preds or retirement.

Worth noting is that his wife is Carrie Underwood, doubt she's moving from Nashville.

Yeah I would say zero chance he leaves Nashville. He doesn't need the money, if he can't get a contract there he retires.

As for Jagr, I would definitely take him for a year. Makes our third line stronger regardless of who he plays with.

I have nothing but admiration for Jags and hope he finds a place somewhere.

Just not here. Aside from the speed issue, and that is a major negative, he is such an out-sized personality that we would immediately become one of the focal points of the team. The Rangers are trying to develop a new personality and focus, and while he would be an inspiration to others with his work ethic, he would also be a major distraction.

It is also my sense that his play deteriorated late in the season, a major red-flag.

As much as it is tempting....pass.

If it's less than 2 million for 1 year, then sure. He could be a great bottom six player.
