News and Rumors

While I don’t think either of these options are likely (especially trading Skjei), I don’t think their crazy either. The Rangers center depth issue is a real concern and acquiring Duchene could fix that. Sakic wants to trade Duchene and if the Rangers would be willing, they have the pieces to make it work.

Looking at a trade for Marchessault, the price should not be too high and as stated the logic is there. Considering Las Vegas’ hectic situation building a team, now is the time to grab some JAM.

And while there’s always the option for a trade, it’s hard to see how Montreal could add a legitimate top-four defenseman without also taking away from a roster that needs most, if not all, of its top pieces right now.

There seems to be a lot of pieces that were rumored to be on the move still sitting where they started...

Barrie
Duchene
Galchenyuk
RNH
Demers
E Kane?
Nash

Seems like something is holding some of this up. Or teams are less willing to trade then we thought

I am fairly certain it's the later. Also, many players have a lot less value than what is perceived at this place by some fan groups and hence aren't moved because they wouldn't return much if anything, others have more and won't be dumped like it was expected.

With Jagr, I think the key would be to put him with two players who could really put a move on. Not saying he couldn't have his moments with Hayes, but overall I think a Hayes-JJ line would be pushed back too much by skating lines. JJ shouldn't be a top line player with Zibs. Is Miller centering the 3rd line? Not sure if I see that much of a match between Miller and Jagr.

Having seen Jagr's worst days, and how he just was a total cancer for his team acting like the worst personalities in sport, to then completely turn it around and just mature and become just a super performer (there is a tremendous amount of preperartion, focus and will behind him being able to play this long), he is one of very very few players I really admire as a "fan" like I did with many players when I was younger. I would never be like pissed if we got him, it's the same with Dom Moore who you just wish the best over anything else. But I am not sure I see a fit on the ice. OTOH, I am sure JJ could teach someone like Hayes a thing or two.

Kerfoot's been rumored to Vancouver for a while.

Yeah, but he is from Vancouver, and might very well go there what do I know, but without having much insight it felt like one of those Hayes to Florida or Vesey to Toronto type of speculation. IE someone just putting 1 and 1 together. Often other factors are considered too and just because he is from Vancouver don't mean he have to sign there.

I think it's partly because he has ties to ownership in Vancouver (not the Canucks directly though). He'll go where there is most likely an opening. Rangers also have an opening so we are still an option...

Think will butcher goes to njd at this point just my gut feeling... Would love to get him in the system though.

The more I think about it the more I want to make a move good Matt Duchene

That Johanson contract is insane. He put up 61 in 82 last year when he was 24...

Zib at 23 put up 55 point pace and he's paid at 5.35 over 5 years.

Go Gorton

That's an overpayment for Johansen imo, both in term and money.

Nashville's perpetual void of a #1 center drove up the price. If they managed to work out a deal for Duchene by trading one of their top 4 D, They could have signed Johansen to a better contract without giving that much.

I don't think the contract is insane and i doubt it's ever a big issue for Preds because of all their other contracts (which are super good), but it's like 2 years too long and $1m too much imo.

no NMC or NTC clause of any kind apparently. That may have given RyJo some more money. Even if he doesn't end up being with the 8M AAV, they'll be able to find a suitor for an equitable trade one way or another. We would have fared better had Stepan's clause not kick in July 1st.

eh I like Johansen a lot so if he was on the Rangers I would be fine with giving him that contract.

He's 24 and they bought basically all UFA years. He will put up 60+ points every year until that contract is over

Really? If he wanted to play for a crap team he could have just stuck with the Avalanche who drafted him. Personally I think he'll sign to a western conference team. He's from Wisconsin and my guess is he was either a Wild or Blackhawks fan. I wouldn't be surprised if he signed with LA or San Jose either.

Who in their right mind--if they had a bunch of choices would sign with the Devils?

Lots of people in Wisconsin are Blackhawks fans. Butcher being from Wisconsin combined with the Blackhawks recent history of winning--if I were to guess Chicago would be the team he'd pick.

As is tradition, all big name college FAs seem to go Chicago or Rangers

Not all, CHI and NYR always seem to go after the prime baby UFAs, but lots sign with others.

If Butcher wanted an easy path to the NHL he'd go to COL. CHI has openings too with only 3 NHL defensemen that played a full season recently.

He's got an easy path there. Forsling will make it. Perhaps Pokka, but they are not in the best position when it comes to their defense.

That's a team that will give up a very good piece for Holden, especially at 50%, you can get an NHL forward and a 3rd.

Tanner Kero would be an ideal pick-up imo. Fast, 4th line checking center. Doesn't have the size to go up against bigger centers though... and that's where I'd prefer a guy like Brodziak or Girgensons.
