I think the fact that Mika was not bridged at $4,5 M or so means we will not see Marc Staal on the team this year. Hopefully we find a punch drunk dance partner before Friday, otherwise we will most likely see a buyout this weekend.
 
Would love to deal Staal to Ottawa or Toronto with money retained.

I don't know how many dominoes, but there are still only 11 NHL forwards on the roster, including Fast. Something's going to happen at some point.

Gelinas is not an NHL defenseman imo. Couldn't cut with 2 of the worst teams in the league.

Gelinas SUCKS. If he's in our top 6, we're in trouble.
 
The Rangers buyout Staal next June. $2,055,556 is the buyout cap hit. $47,980,000 for 10 players and both buyout cap hits. Skjei,Miller,Hayes and Vesey are all arbitration eligible. $$$. More major free agent decisions the following summer. McDonagh. Buchnevich. Zuccarello. Trade him. He will be 32. The Rangers shouldn't invest dollars in a player who has one more big contract left.

Players like Zuccarello have long effective careers. MSL scored over 500 points after his 32nd birthday. The Sedins are still producing in their late 30's. Marcus Naslund survived the breakup of the Beruzzi Morrison line for several more 50 points seasons in his mid 30's.

Tell you what, if we traded Zucc for an exact carbon copy with a different name and nationality, would that be good enough?

Vesey is two years away from group III next summer. So you're saying the Rangers have just enough room to re-sign their own players and ice a roster.
 
What's the use in buying out Staal right now? We have the cap space, and we'll save money if it's done next year. May as well see if we can move him during/after the season and/or get any value back, otherwise just do it next year and save those extra years of buyout cap hits.

Girardi got $3 million for 2 years. If we retain a bit on Staal and he waives, I can't see him not having takers considering he's been a bit better than Girardi.
 
I would really like them to try and sign one of Stafford or Winnik to improve the center depth a bit. Neither should really cost much over a million at this point. Either is a very capable 4th line center and would give us much better flexibility. You get a little more defense with Winnik and a little more offense with Stafford.

If we lose Staal, add a center, and a righty shooter (could be the center), i would be extremely happy
 
so any room to take a chance on a Spooner for Holden? Sounds like Boston doesnt want to pay the asking price but will see soon
