This off-season has convinced me that Brooks' sources pretty much died when Sather stepped down. Gorton running the ship and he's left to speculating.

Basically there are no sources left anywhere now. Didn't think the organization can get more tight lipped.

I don't think you would look at 13-14's roster in a vacuum and say that team makes the SCF. And I don't think you would look at 14-15s roster in a vacuum and say that team wins the Presidents Trophy.

I remember in September, October, and November I had huge long sometimes contentious debates against the people that wanted us to tank that season so making the cup finals was definitely a huge surprise for many folks.

Not sure where Weekes got his information but he called the Shatty deal before it was even finalized according to Shatty. Other than that things have been pretty hush hush.

If Gorton is comfortable with Miller at center, then, ideally the Rangers need a top 9 LW. People seem to forget that AV played Vesey/Hayes/Nash as a line last year, and it was fairly successful. If KZB is the 1st line, then Zucc would move to RW next to Miller. Grabner would be an option, but, you lengthen the roster keeping Grabner with Fast on the 4th line. Spooner might be a very good option as a LW who could take FOs on Miller's line.

Yeah. And you know what? I was a person who was arguing that we were better than people realized. Even still, that team overachieved.

Well, at least this board has bobbop who was right on about Stepan to Arizona way before anyone in the media was speculating about it.

Brooks has swung and missed at just about everything regarding the Rangers this summer. He had our interest in Desharnais and Grigorenko but that was about it.

I would not be the least bit surprised at a Staal buyout this weekend and a deal for Bozak involving Holden + to be done following that.

I remember a day or two before we went in to those playoffs against the Flyers I said that our team was in a weird position. I said we could lose in the first round or go all the way to the finals. That neither case would surprise me.

How big is the + beyond Holden? It is probably something significant. I'd definitely take a flier on Bozak but he's 31 and a UFA after this season.

Bozak would be a stopgap option while Lias and Chytil develop and one of them assumes the 3C role. He's only for one year. I would move Holden along with a prospect like Graves and a 3rd rounder to get it done. Or Holden + 2nd.

Can't we just use some magic spell and bring Joe back to reality so we can make a fair trade for Duchene?

Not sure how we have the cap space to do that without convincing Joe to take back Staal with very little retained.

Yeah I'd be surprised if there was anyone here saying that the 2013/2014 team was a team that could got to the finals.

Would love Duchene but would require us buying out Staal and likely sending one of Miller/Hayes + a top D prospect + 1st round pick to make that happen. I think it would cost too much. Even if Sakic lowered his demands I can't see it working out for us.

No, that was merely a ruse for me to bring up that I argued non-stop on the 2013-14 Rangers' behalf.

Sorry for spinning a web of deception.

jt at center is cool, if andersson can't break camp.. but i would try and get another Winger.. idk if vanek would be a good fit but it would be a worthy look

Kreider--Zib--Buch
Vesey--Hayes--Nash
Vanek--Miller--MZA
Grab--Dash--Fast
Puem/Nieves

If Staal would waive, would anyone even be in favor of an RNH for Staal swap? I don't love RNH, but if we can move Staal's $ for RNH?
