Either way he is not going to be playing for the Rangers so might as well save some money. He can also be traded or sent down.
Trade or send down is a much better solution if they don't want him on the team. The constant buyouts are a serious problem that we need to get away from. It is beginning to feel like there is one every summer. That is not good. Can't win like that.

No I think this level of cheating (Getting someone else to sign a player you want and then have them trade said player to you immediately at a reduced rate) is too far.

If it isn't, then f*** yeah lets exploit the f*** out it.

Like i said before, you are ok with cheating or your not. There are no varying degrees. Its a simple yes or no. There is no too far. Teams have already won cups by cheating. Pick a side, stop flip flopping.

Yes you can win like that. Gm's do it all the time. We are not talking about a lot of money here.

Theres no flip flopping.

If there is no penalty for doing what Larry suggested, I'm okay with it. I don't want the Rangers to get dinged for breaking the rules, or for giving the league a reason to ding them like they did when the Devils pulled f***ery with Kovalchuk.

Burying Nemeth and then buying him out next season doesn't really save them any money when you consider they will need to pay his replacement/7th D and then also play Jones/Robertson/etc in that spot.

Those two factors combined will eat up the ~1.125 in savings burying him generates. If the goal is to actually generate more space, it's going to have to be a trade with an asset.

I'd be floored if he is on the roster either way though.

Maybe, but I think our team not winning is proof that having a buyout of a player every summer is a serious hindrance. Wouldn't that 3.5 million in dead space be real nice right about now? That's a whole ass good player. Haha

The NHL minimum salary is $750,000 for this season and $775,000 in 23-24

CBA §11.12(a) amended to provide:
Season Minimum Salary
2019-20 $700,000
2020-21 $700,000
2021-22 $750,000
2022-23 $750,000
2023-24 $775,000
2024-25 $775,000
2025-26 $775,000

$1,125,000 in 22-23 and $1,150,000 in 23-24

The Rangers could wait until next summer for the buyout. Assign Nemeth to the AHL for this season if the Rangers can't make a trade for him without giving up two assets to move the contract.

Goodrow is their best defensive forward and faceoff guy. 3.6 is a bargain.

I don't think anyone really thinks 3.6 is the problem. Slightly above what most wanted, yea but it's not terrible given what he brings in both zones and more importantly for the locker room. The 6 years was always the major concern.

I recall many projecting Goodrow at 3 years, 3-3.2 when making their armchair GM rosters last summer.
