According to rumours Copp wants a 7 year deal and we are not prepared to give him that. Same with Strome, he wants term. I just can't see why we would give Kadri anything long term.

Theres no flip flopping.

If there is no penalty for doing what Larry suggested, I'm okay with it. I don't want the Rangers to get dinged for breaking the rules, or for giving the league a reason to ding them like they did when the Devils pulled f***ery with Kovalchuk.
I don't see them as the same. We would be giving up assets ( good prospects ) for another asset ( cap space )? It's a trade.

There's a difference to having a $98M roster in the Playoffs because of LTIR fluff or Giving out a 20 year contract to lower the AAV, compared to paying a hefty price for a team to eat cap. One costs nothing to get an advantage and the other costs actual assets.

I'm making a prediction that Robertson is a full time nhl'er by Christmas.

If its around 5 mill i give it to him but he can't have any no move clauses in the last 3 years.

Burying Nemeth and then buying him out next season doesn't really save them any money when you consider they will need to pay his replacement/7th D and then also play Jones/Robertson/etc in that spot.

Those two factors combined will eat up the ~1.125 in savings burying him generates. If the goal is to actually generate more space, it's going to have to be a trade with an asset.

I'd be floored if he is on the roster either way though.
The goal is to have players that can actually play.

The term makes sense for all UFA's. Many of these guys are going to get the cap hits squeezed this off-season and next with the flat cap. I'm less concerned with a 6-7 year deal (not to be read as not concerned) than I am a higher cap hit. For example, if Copp or Trochek want 7 years, okay, then I want the cap hit to max out at $5m, ideally more like $4.8m.

Kakko still unsigned, Nemeth still here. Kadri/Miller/Malkin speculation/rumors. What are you planning Drury?

I'd love Kadri here if he could put the team over the top in the next 3 years or so but there's just no way the cost works and that Kadri would take a short deal like that...but any longer and it's just burning money

well Kadri is better than both but he's also older and it doesn't matter because how will we be able to afford another 7.5 + million contract, nevermind term? Just makes no sense.
