What is happening around the league? Is this the biggest FA in a long time?

Like loads of players unqualified and loads of names out there. Tomorrow is gonna get real crazy.

Remember when we brought in Nemeth because he was supposed to be an upgrade over Jack Johnson and also help Lundkvist because he speaks Swedish?

Now Jack Johnson has a cup, Nemeth is the worst player in the league, and Lundkvist is being talked about as a throw away in a trade.

Eventful year for that story arc.

well, not like Jack Johnson was much more than a warm body for that cup run so I wouldn't put it in a way that makes it sound like he had something useful to do with winning a cup

yeah you're right being on the roster of a cup winning team and hoisting the grail is no big deal. Carry on nothing to see here.

And somehow they made it to within 2 wins of the finals. Not every trade or signing works out. This one certainly did not. Oh and Jack Johnson still sucks, cup or not.

Kadri isn’t happening unless Kreider or Trouba are getting moved. I’m hoping Drury isn’t that stupid.

I like Kadri but he’s basically been a 50 point player throughout his career.

Give me Bennett.

I’d definitely take Bennett. Been beating that drum since the year before he was traded to Florida.

Honestly, if you asked me who I’d rather have on the team at this juncture, with the personnel we have: Kreider or Kadri, I’d probably take Kadri.

He plays a brand of hockey we need - that goal against Tampa that was so controversial because of too many men was a player attacking the center of the ice - and he’s a bonafide top six two way center. Kreider has also historically only been a 50 point player.

But we have Panarin, Lafreniere, Kakko, Kravtsov and then Otthman with Cullye, Berard, etc. and we don’t have a legitimate option at 2C. If you could move Kreider for a positive return (not a cap dump, but move him at his peak value based on the 50 goal season and actually get a nice return for him) I probably would not be against Kadri - or a PLD or Miller extension - but it really isn’t worth discussing since there’s about a .03% chance of Kreider moving.

Kreider isnt going anywhere

By all accounts this move was a good one at the time. If people want to gripe they paid him too much or too much term, so be it.

But no one could have foreseen Nemeth’s play just falling off a cliff like it did

I mean...whatever. He had covid complications and was tasked with breaking a rookie into the league. it's not worth dwelling over in the end

Staple chiming in with an article. Says Strome and Copp are goners. Mentions Kadri looking for a 7 x 7 deal. Trocheck may take less than Copp & Strome and might be the Rangers best option. No interest from NYR in Giroux or Stastny. JT Miller basically in the same boat as Kadri considering what theyd have to give up to acquire him/make the money work.

i think people here continue to discount just how rare it is to get the the conference finals and are taking for granted we will just get there again with mostly the same group despite winning two game 7s to pull it off. it isnt easy to get there and it is less easy to get back. this team needs improvements, not all of them will be in house.

It points to poor scouting, if a slow footed dman like Nemeth was what they were looking for thats an issue

Our 5 on 5 needs to be better and thats mostly gotta come from our top 9, our 2c spot needs to be good and the kids need to build off a solid playoff. I think adding Kravtsov, Blais and hopefully a good 2c and a decent 6th dman will help make us better.

there for sure will be changes though I expect they are hoping that improvements from Kakko and Laf and maybe even Kravtsov coming in will help push those chances up again

but yeah, can't let strome walk and just shrug and say "well, we'll get there again!"

I wonder if there's some stuff we haven't really heard about that drury is exploring, I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of an out of left field trade
I'm kinda meh on Trochek though

I foresaw it. Go to the Nemeth signing thread for proofs.

My issue with swapping Kreider/Kadri is a longterm commitment to a player in his 30’s, especially given our cap crunch.

I don’t care about this seasons success. I still prefer we go low + slow, let the kids continue to cook and make moves when we’re in striking distance. If Drury can move Kreider, he should try and lock up Key and Laf and use some of our other assets to target a potential 2C like Bennett who can produce while adding other intangibles.

i also think that the nils part was a factor. nils made the team out of camp despite not really standing out regardless what anyone wants to claim. it was very vanilla. the team was more or less set on him starting the season in the nhl. at the time nemeth was signed a LOT of people pointed to the fact it would be a country man for nils to smooth the transition and that player could even be his d partner. i think a lot of this was also attributed to the struggles we saw from kakko, the tuumu ruutu addition/exit/implications for the young finish 2oa pick, and the hope that nemeth as a presence beyond a player would help nils from a player support standpoint.

move forward a year and both players arent even in the team's long term plans. it just reeks of why you cant overreact to every situation from the past.
